It is a Dialynx is it? I didn't think it was, mainly because of the steep windscreen
How did they do that then, it's not a quattro/80 Sport cut'n'shut is it I know that's how Audi did it* with the proper ones
600+bhp I bet when it's in a bad mood that beast can dish up some proper understeer Not like the mickey mouse stuff a scoob puts out
I've been in a Dialynx engined quattro (passenger seat only). Trust me, if the road versions have got enough grunt to give a chap the ******* your old man's shouldn't be too shabby
*I always wondered if there were some strange looking Audis knocking round Ingolstadt that used the leftovers, i.e; coupe from the B pillar forwards and 80 to the rear

Its not a cut and shut dialynx it is the reall deal one of 200 made, got lots of original parts still on it from the group b days(doors, gear shift, carbon floor pods etc), what rob ment was its set up by dialynx.

Shelsley is not just about bhp, it's about cojones as the spanish would say, my car could get up there at a very decent rate with 300bhp and no torque whatsoever because the right pedal remained stuck to the floor for as long as possible, Prescott is somewhere in the middle an experince/cojones track Loton is on the other end of the scale consitency/experience, to designate tracks to power outputs and car types is totaly wrong, to driver types is a more accurate yard stick for times.
Having said all that, and a bit of perspective on the cutting edge state of the art purpose built A4 of roger banks, all that power, none of that weight, and more grip and technology than you can shake a stick at and he was still slower than Keith edwards in a 25 year old quattro on 25 year old suspension with no adjustment and weighing 1200kgs. so there is something to be said for cojones at Loton.
cojones means ***** by the way
took my 90/75 springs back to power station today their Time Attack car is for sale for £50,000!!!!

Something I failed to mention about the weekends racing is that somebody filed a complaint to the scrutineers about my car and I had to endure a 30 minute examination of my supposedly illegal roll cage. I had had this mentioned to me last year by a fellow class competitior and checked it out to find my cage is perfectly legal, but it seems that that did not satisfy said party and they put hand in pocket to lodge an official complaint. Shame really as despite the scrut's best efforts they could not find anything wrong with my car and the persons money was wasted, also ironic as the 'DTM' A4 was ther with it's completley illegal perspex screen and hole in the bodywork for radiators and nobody thought that enough to complain to the scrut's or put their hand in their pockets. It's an odd game this sometimes.
But ****ing great fun!

Aah, it all becomes clear It's a genuine cut'n'shut not a replica
Was it originally built as a competition car, or did it start life as a road car?
One last question what are noise regs like at hillclimb events these days Does he get to go the whole hog, and sound like a full on military assault every time he runs

So that's why they were over the car Rob, mmm, interesting!
The Big A4 is a car to watch for technology and size, and the comparison to the SWB is a good one.
Noise is a major issue and the White SWB was luck to run.
Limit is 108 dBa. Most of the Impreza's are 98.
Only on (some) vintage cars do you get open pipes.

It is the loudest most insane thing you have ever heard the anti lag is just mental. As Graham rightly said he was a bit lucky to get away with it as the noise test is done in the paddock, so no anti lag running, I think however at the next major event at Prescott he will have serious problems as I am led to beleive the noise test is on the track somewhere. My Dad's aware of it and addressing it before then I think.
Forecast for Saturday is not so good.

It will be "interesting" to compare with the old Falkens - I found the car squirmed much more that I expected.

I've found the sidewalls a bit 'flexy' on my T1-R's (205/50/16) the lower profile may well be better. I'd be interested to hear what you think. I may have to run higher pressure?!

Hi Martin,
I agree with your thoughts on the lower profile (40) in that the lateral movement should be less, than say a 45 profile tyre.
Paul at BMTR Tyres (thanks to Graham for the info) mentioned that the T1-S has much better sidewall strength than the T1-R.
I think any improvement on my times at Loton will become quickly evident with the Toyos.
As with all things "hillclimbing" it is a try and see philosphy - makes it much more fun
Can I ask what pressures you run?

Hmmmm
These T1-R's may be a bit of a concern, I ran them on the road, only for a few miles at 34/32 and they felt squirmy (not a pleasant feeling!!). Previously I'd been using 215/40/17 Pirellis on the road at 32/30 (normal pressures). I suppose it's a combination of larger profile (50) and the thinner sidewall of the T1-R as oppsed to the T1-S Graham had used previously.
Martin
ps. RS_UK great pics, how do you blur the background and keep the image in focus? - excuse my ignorance!

Most of these were taken on a slow shutter speed and panning with the car gives a blurred background. Normally for rallies I use about 1/320 but I was experimenting around 1/100 on Monday which is pushing your luck a bit using a 200mm lens. - I pushed it a bit far with the Roger Moran one at 1/30
Cheers for the feedback guys.
Nick.

Graham, we were talking tyres at the weekend and you mentioned that the m3 in our class was on soft kumho's, it is running 225/45/17's which according to kumho is not available in soft compound at all and as we previously thought the soft kumho's are only available in 16 or under.

Interesting about your cage. I had the same one in my but was advised to change it! Wish I hadn't now, as it was a pain to take out and an even bigger (expensive) pain to put a new one in!!
Glad yours passed, and I agree that someone appears to be nit-picking when there are more obvious issues on display!

Hi Rob,
Yes I spoke to you at Shelsley in September about your cage following my experiences in the South West. I also said I wouldn't protest and I haven't.
If I had spare cash I'd buy some decent rubber ( Graham 's calling me a slow learner as I still don't have any ! ) not waste it on protests.
Best Regards Geoff.

Hi Martin,
For what its worth I run my T1-Rs at 36 f and 34 r , they move once as you turn in then just grip really well. they were great at Loton (with a mere 8,000miles on them)

The BM's tyres are the left-overs from a Kumho supported BMW Series, and there are no more.
Kumho prob did these as wets for the circuit boys.
Richard and David know several people from that series.
I do not think you are missing much from Med to soft inho having tried both back to back.
Pity you cany fit my 16's/slicks as you would be welcome to run on them for a practice run somewhere just to try them for 'feel'

Hi Geoff,
seems I put 2 and 2 together and got 5. Somebody lodged the complaint which is a bit of a shame but entirley within their rights if they think I am breaking the rules. I appreciate you setting the record straight.
