Hillclimbing, the 2007 Season Project.

Great hard day of real hillclimbing with lots of ups-n-downs.
Ups in competition for me was a 3rd in class, a rear diff that stayed in one piece, and most importantly, a personal best @ 58.37 secs.
Ups socially was a great weekend of being back with the Hillclimb community, great company.
Downs:
One of my AST's has gone wrong, lost the damping adjustment on the NSF, and having a sit in Pete's fab EVO, it fits me perfectly. My wife said 'dream-on'.....
For some reason Pete wasn't interested in swopping my Sti + a year's pocket money.
I thought I might squeeeeeze into the 57's, but not today.
Next meeting is Prescott where I'm not too good, so it will be another tough one.
Huge class:
Audi V8 that blitzed the class record by a light year, 2 x EVO's, 4 Impreza's, a Legacy and a BMW M3.
Time to post the video snaps (some of them are great) but AOL won't let me yet!

Absolutely two days of petrolhead heaven!
I will post (when AOL permits) my final run - somewhat over ambitious entry to Triangle - but a 2.11 first 64 feet (shame the remaining 1475 yards of Loton were not as good) - still great fun and a good "learning experience".
Now, I can justify the Khumos as I have four flat spotted Falkens
Good to see you, Rob and Pete.
That Audi is quite a piece of kit..............................

Just back from the weekends racing, was a mixed bag with good things and bad. Good things being going well on Sunday setting consistent quick times and a PB of 58.10 despite the dredful launches, the new exe-tc suspension being excellent and irononing out every bump on the track whilst still allowing fast cornering. Getting to see everyone again and have the crack, and it stayed dry!
Bad things, not being able to do a lauch under 2.20 again all weekend, pushing too hard on competiton day resulting in spinning off in the first run and another very slow start on the second bringing in my slowest completed run of the weekend @ 58.87 when it actualy counts, frustrating to say the least as I'm sure your meant to go faster not slower?!?
The A4 made mince meat of the record rather unsurprisingly despite Roy's best efforts and I think it's safe to say that will be the way the season goes from here on. Graham, Mr 'the end is nigh I'm going to be dead last' himself drove his new rubber to back to back PB's on the competitive runs and came in ahead of Pete and myself with his consitent smooth driving which is rewarded at Loton as oppose to Pete and I locking up, spinning off and taking grassy detours by driving like loons which we might get away with somewhere else but not at Loton as it proved today, so hats off to Graham he produced the goods when it counted and was consitently a second ahead of me to the first split at triangle which is where it counts.
My Dad's quattro is just insane and he loved every second and got quicker and quicker as the weekend went on I think with more experience in the car he will be able to give the top runners a scare or 2 later in the season.
So all in all a good informative weekend and a good laugh the season is now underway and I can't wait to get back out there, I'm at MIRA next saturday for the first round of the Midland sprint championships a track I love to drive which should finaly kill off my already toasted kuhmos leaving me the dilema same tyres again or slicks at more than twice the cost and risk of shattered transmission but ultimate grip. We shall see.
The white goods class
Lunatics corner
Pics from the practice day but you get the Idea,
Pete with his trademark 3 wheel cornering
Like my school reports, must try harder!

Rich, I took a good pic of you but the camera focused on the armco and your all blurred, oops. Nice to see another RA locking up and spinning off, I can blame it on the car now rather than myself!

Glad to hear you all had a good weekend and came back in one piece!
Actually got my car back yesterday and drove it for the first time today. Not happy! still things to be resolved, well fed up. Was supposed to be at Curborough tomorrow.

Martin, sorry to read this about the 2.5. Must all be trying yours and Helen's patience to say the least.
Fixable?
Carlos, it is not every weekend (for me) but Rob is almost doing every weekend this year!
Easy when you are young!!
The House needs attention now, so that is the Project over the next few months, plus the wife will then be more tolerable for the Next Stage which still won't be an EVO.

It would be an amazing experience, but after driving the Zen impreza it would take quite something to scare/impress me!

It is a Dialynx is it? I didn't think it was, mainly because of the steep windscreen
How did they do that then, it's not a quattro/80 Sport cut'n'shut is it I know that's how Audi did it* with the proper ones
600+bhp I bet when it's in a bad mood that beast can dish up some proper understeer Not like the mickey mouse stuff a scoob puts out
I've been in a Dialynx engined quattro (passenger seat only). Trust me, if the road versions have got enough grunt to give a chap the ******* your old man's shouldn't be too shabby
*I always wondered if there were some strange looking Audis knocking round Ingolstadt that used the leftovers, i.e; coupe from the B pillar forwards and 80 to the rear

Tyres (again)
Well boys, now that I have beautifully flat spotted tyres (Doh!), I have a genuine reason for binning the Falkens and replacing with some more suitable rubber.
Looking at the permitted tyres in the "Blue Book" am minded to go for either the Kumho Ecsta V700 or the Toyo Porxes R888.
David Marsh (BMW M3 3.0) was recommending the V700 to me on Sunday.
Previously Graham (911) has also recommended these, but my main query - is there an issue in running the car at National B meetings with permitted tyres from List 1B?
With either of these fitted will I be excluded from the class (Roadgoing Saloons over 2000cc)?
From List 1A the options (I think) are:
Kumho Ecsta 711 or Toyo Proxes T1-S.
Any guidance on what I am permitted to use is always appreciated
Richard

If you use tyres from 1A then you can run in roadgoing, if you use 1B's then you will be classed in mod-prod, I believe.
Just fitted 'shaved' Toyo T1's to mine to run in roadgoing.

I've heard the R's are so good.
But I know the s's are great when i had them.
Before you buy, call David at BMTR in Perry Bar and ask him about the demon 1A's Will Hall has on his Westfield.
Same price as Toyo.
For me i would go Toyo.TR1S

As far as I am aware the *Toyos/List A are the only ones available in a 215/40 profile, and combined with the Powerstation set up I have suits the car very well (for what I need anyway
I am having them fitted 28th April prior to Shelsley (12th May) and Loton on the 20th May.
It will be "interesting" to compare with the old Falkens - I found the car squirmed much more that I expected.
