Hillclimbing, the 2007 Season Project.
Great summary Rob. The win really should have gone to Pete for his white knuckle effort.
So, the EVO Boys stuffed us this weekend.
Will it be the ultimate wet, a cut AVON or a set of Kumho's?
Now, there's a thought.
Grham.

I think the Kuhmo's were the way forward in the conditions, cut through the water and good grip on the contact areas, the thought of another set of avons makes my bank manager run scared so all I could ever think is getting a set of near knackered slicks cut when changing to new ones, but I'm not sure how effective that would be if they are worn enough to need replacing. A set of post time attacked Toyo r888's have been made available to me for a great price so I should have some wets soon, might also use them for some sprints later in the year to save my slicks as I'm currently leading the Midland sprint championship and with just 3 events left I might see if I can win it despite how much I dislike sprinting.

Got some pics from Loton a few weeks ago, first at the tight Hall corner and then at the final corner Museum.
My new Mintex race pads from Zen have brought the brakes right back upto scratch after how I struggled on my knackered standard pads at Loton last time so that should see the end to my stopping problems. One less excuse I can use, I'm running out of them!

I see, Edwards bought it on the back of 800bhp + claims so I understand.

Driving in the wet? Well wet in places. Have a look at this clip from the weekend in Belgium. Fun!

From the S4's race report of the weekend-
"The event was then stopped for 5 minutes to recover a car that had gone off...all the time the track was drying out..."
Interesting take on things, the car than span out was after class C1, funnily enough, Roger is in class C1 and should have run at the end of our class after Roy on the soaking wet track like the rest of us, but hanging back in the pits for no aparent reason than to let the track dry out so he had a chance against Pete's amazing time on the wet track, the car span off. It appears there is no more money left for a decent watch either as the 5 minutes was more like 20, then the whole of class C2 ran then there was the A4 with the bone dry start straight and lower section of the track. like I said before it stinks, I like Roger he's a good bloke but the antics at the weekend were seriously underhanded, I think a combination of desperation to win after such a massive finacial investment and pressure from the 'team' caused him to use an out of character and unsporting tactic to take the class win. The ammount of people who came upto Pete and said, "I saw what he did, it's out of order" was untrue and these were long standing establised hillclimbers who everyone knows, including Roger. As usual the clerk of the course was not interested as everyone is terrified of putting anyones nose out of joint especially the big money star of the show that is the A4.
Complete load of sh*t as far as I'm concerned and a bad advert for the sport that needs new blood, why would anyone want to start doing this sport when crap like that goes on unpunished.
I was going to say no more on the matter beyond my race report but the race report on the S4 website on is pure fantasy in a "I didn't do nothing guv'" when caught red handed kind of way, which has annoyed me greatly.
Roger if you ever read this you know your in the wrong.
Man of the meeting Pete.
Come on Ash Mason is all I can say!!!!!!!

Gamesmanship has always been a part (albeit un-welcomed) of sport, including motorsport. On road rallies part of the navigators "art" is to bufuddle marshals, into giving them an earlier time so they don't incur penalties. It's the officials responsibilities to recognize such gamesmanship and stop anyone from gaining an unfair advantage. If they don't, it simply encourages others to try it on in future.
I wasn't there but if it's as you describe then it's a pretty hollow "victory". It'll be all the sweeter when Pete does him on a level playing field

As far as the Audi goes, it stinks, and I may just have to get my car scrutineered for shelsey and put you in the pilot's seat Rob!

Being sporting and being fair...tell me about it!
I race another scooby in autocross/rallycross. I was invited to run at weston super mare this year, and decided to share the drive with a mate, Steve.
Steve had the 'local superstar' in his first heat and was beating him until lap 3 when the 'superstar' entered a corner too fast and used Steve to slow him up and lean on him through the bends....by the third time I was talking to the clerk of course. He said it was too far for him to see. The crowd didnt have a problem or the commentator. So much for non contact racing.
This happened in the next heat and the next. When my car entered the pits needing the body hammering out for the final, I decided to discuss this with 'Mr Superstar' in a controlled manner and pointed out the regulations line by line. He reported me for being abusive. Lesson learned was rather than being polite, I should have punched his bloody lights out!
I retired in protest. A marshal came over to see me and expressed his displeasure over the event and suggested the Clerk and Superstar lived in the same village..wink, wink.
Trouble is club motorsport has got very serious business. Everyone on this thread throws a lot of money at it over the years. ALWAYS remember your destiny is in the hands of a volunteer....not all are professional.
As for as sprinting and Hill climb organisers go, I have never met a bad one. Long may that be the case. And before someone wants to remind me, I am extremely grateful to the Marshals and organisers who allow us to race.
I support AWWMC events a few weekends a year as a marshal myself.

I must be the last person in the world to find this . Good to see you at Prescott , many congratulations to you both on your engagement.
Thanks Helen for the super vid of the blue "shopping" car.
Best Regards
Geoff.
He really does! how i beat him is past me!!!! the speed he has on board around orchard in the wet is just awesome, top top driver!! Such a shame he is not going to be able to make alot of meets this year with his daughter getting married etc.. i really get on with roy and he's up for a laugh!
On the audi A4 subject i was wondering how far up Roys exhaust he would have been if it was a dry day but about to slash it down!?!?!?!? think it through!! there is no doubt in my mind that my time worried him and made him hold back in the paddock! I like roger we get on but like rob said he must have acted out of characterr! I spoke to Roger after the run and held back on what i really felt, simply because i dont want to spend the rest of the season with bad vibes in the air! what's done is done he won 'Again' im ok with that! its just how fair is it on all of our class with the audi having such an advantage before these stunts get pulled out the hat! What must Ash Mason be feeling like?? how many records of his own can he take? how is the audi still never been questioned by anyone about any of our doubts? I can tell you now roy has had a harder time from fellow competitors and scrutineers in his years of hill climbing than anyone ever! roy's car and approach to the sport is to the letter of the law, the audi could'nt be more on the limit of questioning yet its never been done! why?
I would like to add that im not being a bad loser (i dont think) because I am very very happy with my result and the way i drove, I was sure i was going to be 4th or 5th behind graham, roy, rob, beating them to second place is a victory in its self.
Graham.
I really would like your opinion on the weekend as i respect you and would like like to hear some wise words on the subject. If you dont want to though its cool mate.
cheers. pete

Roy is the real champ and did it in style, great banter, nice bloke, parks with the rest of the class, mingles with the rest of the class, drives like a man possesed, and never pulled any desperate stunts to win. Whilst I'm sure he's spent his fair share on his car he hasn't thrown the financial deficit of Liberia at amateur motosport to win a relatively un-important class. Roy's car is over-driven, a real road car taken to it's limits, the A4 is under-driven a real race car driven well below it's limits.
Rob.
