Second practive (woken up a bit):

It was a good days racing indeed, first competetive run I broke the class record with a 56.70. 2nd run when conditions were perfect I was going great guns at triangle and looking like going faster again but on the exit of the 2nd ess at keepers the rear end finaly went, I had been on a knifes edge of the rear end getting the better of me all weekend and it finaly did, I took 4 wheels across the grass costing me 2 seconds, Pete went on to improve on his first run and come in under my new record by 9/100ths of a second, gutted, but well done to Pete he and his car performed when it mattered again.

Nice vids Graham, that straight really isnt straight is it!

Well done to all the other impreza boys great to watch them battling it out.

MIRA next and then Shelsley Walsh, should allow me to use every bhp of the new engine and put it all on the track this time with the new rubber so looking forward to it and hope the weather is as kind to us as it was yesterday.

In car video of my PB and then record of 56.70 with a 1.89 launch, 22.26 triangle split.

That's an interesting Triangle time Rob.

My best to that place is 22.43, a start of 2.14 and a finish on that run of 58.69.

You make it all after Triangle , the 'straight' and the rest! ie the last 2/3rds of the track.

I must try harder.

I just don't think I'm brave enough and the car powerful enough to catch up!

No chance!
You should have seen the Harriman nutters (inc Dad) blast up Cedar Straight!

The Club should charge them more for their entries to account for the wear and tear.

Rob and Pete can be caught to Triangle (just..) but the power they have is about 70/80 bhp up on me at the moment.

But I'll bloody well try to catch 'em!

A good day on Sunday, for various reasons. The first being the weather!! Congrats to Rob on breaking a long standing record and good to see the rest of the guys too. (did Pete subsequently go quicker?)

I was pleased (at last) to get a few good runs in having only previously been there in the wet and in a diesel golf and to go quicker with each one.

I'll try and puts some vids up soon.

Cheers

Martin

ps. Rob can you tell me the offset of your wheels? ta.

I think it's almost impossible in a tin top to get very far ahead by triangle split, Roger, Keith Edwards, Roy are all within about half of a second of each other and us. I think low 22's are a good target for a good run, and high 21's an absolute flyer.

In my opinion there is a lot more time to be lost upto triangle than gained, and nobody ever won anything with a fastest triangle split, it just sets you up to attack the rest of the course and find the real time.

Yes, that is an interesting fact with such a wide power/torque spread between us all.
I think the real secret is getting out of Keepers well and onto the 'straight', Kennel and bottom Esse at Shels and Pardon at Prescott, there is always one...

MIRA tomorrow, the mental super grip high speed sprint. A massive field of cars by MIRA standards and some very stiff competiton in our class. Pete, dad and myself, an ex Ferrari f355 cup car, a 5 litre v8 westfield GT and another Impreza that is a stranger to me.

I think my dad will be the one to watch here though as he spent the day today at curborough with Keith Murray and Motec dave setting the car up to perfection, a now proven 600bhp and 900kilos should see him make mince meat of us on the fast track, however it is a lot easier to drive our cars very fast than his car quite fast so maybe it will even out as he is still learning the thing.

The slicks should see some good lanches and much faster cornering, my previous best on my Kuhmo's was 52.61, the record is again Geoff Kershaw's sierra at a mental 50.76. That seems like a big difference but it is actualy less time difference than Pete and my easter weekend visit to loton on 1B's to our consecutive record braking on slicks last weekend, we both shaved off over 2 seconds there, so who knows!

Pic's, videos and excuses posted up here tomorrow so take a look!

Rob.

Who is the other Impreza?

I think you and Pete will blitz the class. Hope the rain keeps off you all, may the best Combination win! (though I secretly hope your Dad does to keep us oldies in the runnin')

Spectating at Prescott on (a wet?) Sunday.

Graham.

That will be me then in my 'new project RA'. 3rd event for it today.

Great effort Rob, nice to meet you and your family.

Thanks for sharing a few ideas with me. Looks like you set the bench mark today. IMPRESSIVE STUFF!

Sorry for butting in Graham. Rob's car is way ahead of anyother Scooby I have raced against.

John....

Right, MAC event at MIRA as mentioned above, what a mess.

Dad's exhaust fell off hot and melted his CV boot so he didn't even make it to the start line, and I couldn't convince him to dual drive mine so he just watched all day.

The first car out in a massive field on it's first run, a Mazda RX7 somehow managed to come off on the finish line which is a small straight and destroy the timing gear. We had 2 lame untimed practices which I got stopped pre launch as the car in front has taken out cones, got told to kill my engine sit for 15 minutes then told to start my car and launch immediatley with red/green start light not working, i made a hash of my launches and missed gears, at least the clock was broken to hide my shame. Long Lunch to try and fix the timing gear they did at 2 pm, and then we were off....

First timed run I started well but not used to the mega speed you can carry with slicks I part throttled around the long (a third of the track) corner which should be flat, but, 420bhp and slicks means your pulling stupidly fast speeds, so much faster than on the Kuhmo's and I basically bottled it. All was not lost though I made good progess until on the 90 degree off camber left hander I got a bit carried away, about 20 mph carried away and had a nice full frontal collison with some rather massive motorway cones, persevered and made a 51.77, a second faster than my previous PB of 52.60 but a total mess of a run. Worse still Pete posted a 50.87. Way ahead of me and as my wife so kindly put it made me look like a "slowy" round the super fast corner.

Final run decided to open the diff right up to second green as the mid orange position was still promoting understeer on the long constant corners, my theory being sacrificing the launch time and braking for better cornering. It launched liked a beast anyway with the same 6k clutch dump tactic to a 1.88 64ft time and I grew a set of nuts and flatted the long fast corner getting up to some stupid speed (which we will never know as the trap timer was broken) and was going great guns manged to miss all the cones and got to the final corner which I totaly over cooked and got very sideways but kept my foot in and got across the line in what felt faster but not fast enough due to me making such a hash of the final corner, it turned out to be a 50.69 beating Geoff Kershaw's record of 50.76 by the slightest of margins, Pete made a big mistake on the first corner and went slower putting me just ahead of him. The V8 westfeild GT car which had been put into our class despite being a specialist production car took the win with 48.90 but my new record stands for the modified production cars over 2000cc class. There is no doubt more time out there to be had but after seeing the state of my tyres and how much rubber they have cast off and sitting around bored sh*tless all day for 2 timed runs I'm not sure I will ever be going there again. A great result but tainted by the crap nature of the meeting.

Graham, the guy in the other impreza is called John Murphy, he has a very nice type RA making about 370bhp and in amazing condition, he got it from API and lives 2 miles from me, he knows his imprezas and when he gets it set up properly I think he will be a strong goer in the road going class as he was in the 56's in his first meeting.

So a class record which I'm well chuffed about but I am losing the will to sprint by the meeting, it is just so dull compared to hill-climbing. I will see how I stand in the sprint championship after this meeting before considering wether to do anymore sprints.

Rob.

Well done to all, very very sorry for the Elder Member though.

I gave up Sprinting years ago and have NEVER been back, the Hills are Alive as she sang and that's it for me.

See you at Shelsley next weekend.
I'm preying my suspension mods will let me flash through the bends and catch you and Pete up...

Be gentle with us Rob, and start saving for some more slicks!

Graham.

Blademaster:
Did I meet you at API when I was in a hurry dropping my car off to have the front diff done?
My neat little 911 is starting to appeal as it is in another class to Rob and Pete.

Hi Graham,

Yes thats right.

David and his guys at API have been doing a great job of my gearbox mods/repairs.

I am developing two Imreza's, one being the RA for sprinting and the second one for racing in Autocross.

Maybe I should start an Autocross thread and drum up some Scooby entrys.

Still entries available for the new Epynt Hill Climb on 17 June if you don't go back to MIRA! Graham will be there to give you a bit of competition. (Don't tell him I'm encouraging you to come along, I think he's got his eye on setting the first hill record )

That is quite a long list!

Don't like the sound of all these Rally Impreza's being there, but at least I'll know 2 people there.
I'll feel a bit of a duck out of water.

Hope it's dry.

I've fitted an extra fuel tank so I can get back along the return road without a tow...

Run 2
coming up

Nice first run, just off record a 10/th i think, had loads of time left out on the track letting off and breaking way to early into the first right hander. Second run fell asleep and made a stupid mistake in the first corner and chucked my chances of the record down the drain, Rob went on to take it if they dont let the v8 westfeild have it.

None to really worry about............yet! I think the Darrian will be rapid and if Bob Fowden shows up he will have a bit of a go. It'll be interesting to see what comes in this week.

Just messing about with the car and happened to notice my run in with the cones on saturday has crushed one of my intercooler pipes and slightly bent the cooler bracket, which is not good. Need to get that sorted before Shelsley this weekend.

In fact the Impreza's entered aren't rally cars as far as I know and don't worry we're a friendly bunch, you'll soon feel at home.

Rob:
You and cones don't mix well do you?

How did the cone get past the toe eye?
As long as it is not leaking I doubt it will affect your progress much (seriously).

MC:

I know Andrew from some hillclimbs at Loton Park and he is very consistant and smooth and not exactly slow!
I'm in it to support you all and have a lark, trying hard to get FUN out of this lot rather than the recent grief.

Pete: Red Bull will do it (the sleepy bit), but I'm sure you / your car will deliver much more yet.

Shelsley next...I'm hoping for a 5th or 6th....Christ, just one bloody point!
