Hillclimbing, the 2007 Season Project.

Which class you run in depends on which set of regs the meeting is under, or which Championship you are contesting.
Sprint and Hillclimb rules for the classes can be very different and you can easily fall foul of them.
Read them very carefully, especially the need for roll cages and type of tyres.
Once you know your way around it is quite easy unless you want to do both disciplines.
Most (all so far) of us on here are hillclimb runners so many of the things discussed are in that sector.
Graham.

Diff back today from API, fab job done as ever.
Came away with a nice surprise too!
The 'other' part arrived exactly as you said it would, and will go on tomorrow. Small thread will be done to cover it!
It looks the real Deal to say the least!
Getting the mag panels next week for the stickers.
Regards, Graham.

Thanks for that chaps. I have got info of the dims from othr sources so can maybe put this job into action on easter weekend.
Another question if I may. What pads are you chaps running, as I have now got the Stoptech brakes with teh default Axxis pads which don't seem to have lots of confidence inspiring bite, so I am looking at other options. I previously had DS2500 pads on my Subaru 4 pots which I found good but on track once really hot they left deposits on the discs, but I am thinking this won't happen with 1 60 second run.
Also, all this talk of class's, I read last years regs, and I was thinking I would be in the modified saloon section, is this now changed??
My car has a few mods.
FMIC
exhaust
brakes
suspension
intake etc etc
Thanks
Logan

Yes:
The Sti V3 diff was different though on the OSR shaft. That is what gave me the grief months ago when doing this simple swop over of diffs.
The shafts snapped into place very posativly with a little float (1mm) which is simply the C clips moving in their grooves.
There is a little trick in the design.
The NSR shaft's C clip groove is very shallow, JUST down to the root dia of the spline. The locating groove in the diff itself is very deep and the C clip itself is in the diff, not on the shaft.
On the OSR the system is opposite, the deep groove for the clip to collapse into during insertion is deep in the saft, shallow in the diff!
I am confident they will stay put now and I can press-on with the slicks and shedding some time chasing the Harriman Brothers.
You should see Rob's brother go in that EVO.

mod prod sallons over 2 litres, there is a 1.5litre penlaty for turbos and superchargers, or roadgoing prod cars over 2litres, the regs vary between A and B meets, generally A meets is tryes free because there is no roadgoing class and any mod is allowed as the audi has proved. B meets have different classes hence the slighty different regs, me and rob get bumped up a class in B meets because of our tryes 1b's (kumo) (Yokahama advans) track day tryes they are normally called. If you are running 1a's at b meets you will be in roadgoing prod cars over 2litres, if you are thinking of a meets we all get chucked into one class (mod prod sallons over 2 litres) and your running agaisnt 800bhp audi, 550bhp evo 5rs both on slicks and both mega fast, then graham rob and I, and we get wasted but its fun!

Graham,
i can see where the grooves are in the shaft, are you confident that's how they are in the diff though?
Both Harriman cars are being fettled at the moment, be afraid!

I'm not afaid of the Harriman sons. My benchmark is their dad as thats more fair.
I was 55 yesterday, and I think Pete is about half that, and Rob's pretty close too.
My next mod will be a good radio so I can tune into Radio 2 better, Jap radio still in there.
Graham the Grey.

Roy told me he listens to radio 4 on his way up the hills, not a bad idea that!
Graham, what are kumo's like in the wet now im moving to slicks if its really wet im going to need another set of wheels and tryes thinking kumo's would do the trick?

Example, MR alloys with goodyear eagle f1's, an awesome tyre. For sale on MLR for less than the cost of 4 Kuhmo's.
No neons for you, your not worthy.

Happy birthday mate! The age obviously doesn't affect you your times are seriously quick and now your on slicks with short ratios you will only get quicker, the first event is a 'home' match at Loton your outlook is good, and if it rains so I'm told your even better, nearly set an FTD over all the Gould's etc. so my dad says.
Here's that weather site for Loton again so you can practice your rain dance for 8th&9th. 9th doesn't look good.

LOL at you all!
Pete: Kumho's are really good in all comnditions, and if it is p!ssing down, Rob is right and a set of 1A's usefull for the one day meets.
I did very nearly bag FTD on my soft Kumhos last year, missed it by a 0.1 secs! I love hillclimbing in the wet, best conditions for my weedy 380 bhp.
I really rate the V70 Kumho, but slicks are soooo far ahead it's untrue.
Just got back from a testing run and the diff seems all ok, and the new d/p has added some of the sparkle I'd lost.
I was seriously impressed by your dad at Loton to do what he did in Rob's car, and I think his new Quattro will be a serious chaser for 1st in class.

Just had a read through the 2007 blue book for the first time and the Dialynx A4 has been built totaly to the letter of the law taking full advantage of every section regarded as 'free' and then some.
Hats off to Keith Murray for building such an awesome machine, and hats off to Roger for spending an awesome ammount of money!
It will be a good spectacle for the sport but this time next year may well be the only car in the class as eveyone else has given up and moved on.
C'mon the 'B' meets!

Now you know one of the reasons why Dave Parr went to the B's. He cleans-up in those meets.
He has also found some killer 1A tyres...(£60 each for 15'')
I bet nobody will move Rob.
Just sit down and try to find a class you would rather be in.
Mind you, have you spotted the Jap car circuit series yet. Some might say real racing.
Looking forward to the Loton bash as i want to see how far I dare lean on the slicks! Am I brave enough to get the best from them?
What turns is your rack Rob, lock to lock?
Wadsy will have his new 2.5 forged engine, you will have your dog box, Peter will be in orbit around Saturn, and Roy will be perplexed!
I have 3 new stickers.
Hope its dry (or maybe WET! )
Graham.

I won't be moving but I think some will.
Single seaters, westfeilds and most other things leave me cold, my interest in cars has been 4x4 turbo rally bred from day 1 and will remain so, when, where I drive it and which one are the only things that could change.
I'm not sure of the lock on my steering rack, it's the standard RA one, someone on here will know.
No dog boxes, no anything else, the budget is spent and then some, it's tyres and fuel only from here on out.
The stickers will affect your power to weight ratio Graham I hope they are completley necessary!
Rob.

My customary 2 bacon and mushroom butties with brown sauce weigh more.
Looks a lot more boy racer now.
At least it will be easy to read as I cruise by...
Still fancy a Legends in sports libre.
Seriously thinking of a quick rack very soon. My front diff really tugs and i need to get a grip, or rather not let go of the wheel anywhere.
Graham
ps:
Where are all the other sprinters/hillclimbers?

Engine's in but to be mapped on rollers to about 320ft/lb's - can't afford a gearbox as well - couldn't really afford an engine but it's no good without one!!
Managed a brief drive in it on Monday and it's smoother than the 2.0 in it's power delivery, so I'm hoping it will be 'easier' to drive.
Martin
Will still be running on 1a's as per Aldon/HSA regs.

I'm with Rob, used a Westfield in the past and all that happens is you get wet when it rains. Saloon cars are better with Trees also (Especially ones with quick racks Graham )

That's 2 Xmas cards you are missing Scotsman!
Know of an Sti RA rack and a New Age one, but want to sell my 2 exhausts first. Too much clutter.
Some thing different would be interesting to drive?
