Hillclimbing, the 2007 Season Project.
Well wet wet and wet jjust kept tempting us with sun and 5 mins before our runs it would slash down! First run pissing down on slicks took it real real easy 38.5 (car would not go in 4th got really tight), next run still soaking wet track wheelspin in 1,2 and 3 gears 37.2 (again car would not go into 4th gear)
First competetive run still wet track with a dryish start line decided to go all out and set a 33.9, 2.06 launch 90mph into the esses 92mph (should have been 100) across line but i drove that run with no clutch had to force it into every gear really force it which ment my gear changes where taking for ever so could have been a 32 in the wet gutted! But real big problems might be gear box or the clutch couldnt even get it onto the trailer! So im a bit pissed off more money to be spent!

The road trip to Shelsley started well with cool air and dry roads, but as I approached the Stourport-on-Severn area the clouds became heavy and dark.
The new track is superb, but with the amount of rain at the start of practice it was deceptively slippy. My first run was a very steep learning curve, the hill is very very fast and so different to Loton Park.
Anyway, this is how it transpired:
Wet Practice 1
2.33 seconds, first 64 feet (new Toyos working great!).
27.59 seconds Bottom Ess approach
41.70 seconds to finish line (believe me, as new competitor it felt quick)!
Wet Practice 2
2.29 seconds, first 64 feet (getting used to 4,500 rpm and lifting clutch)
25.65 seconds Bottom Ess approach
39.59 seconds to finish line
Run 1 (this gave me second in class (Roy Standley's Evo 5 taking first).
2.30 seconds, first 64 feet
23.94 seconds Bottom Ess approach
37.58 seconds to finish line
Run 2 (after a biblical amount of rain - never thought that windscreen wipers were a part of car preparation).
2.39 seconds, first 64 feet
25.15 seconds Bottom Ess approach
39.04 seconds to finish line
So all in all a very succesfull day for the Impreza, tyres worked well, strategy 100% for the weather conditions.
2nd in class - could not ask for more!
Sad to say a driver was injured when his single seater went through a fence on the finish straight and his head/neck was caught in some fence wire (I understand he will be ok).
Also an old 911 was badly damaged as a well.
On a lighter note, good to see Pete and his Dad (Mick) - much banter
Looking forward to seeing the usual suspects (hopefully Martin's car will have been mapped etc in time?) at Loton Park next Sunday.
Game On!

It was sunny where i was!
First in class, and a Class Record!
See other thread for details.
Sounds a drama weekend for us all as usual.
Expect to see you all at Loton next weekend, hope to cruise there on the Sunday in the old banger. (if dry....)
Coming home just was some of the worst rain I've driven in on a motorway for years.
Well done to all, hope the gearbox is ok Pete and the mapping goes well Martin.
Graham.

Just a couple a friend emailed to me:
Start line (all looking calm and collected):

Exit from Triangle Corner (first timed run) - all going to plan:
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...zaTriangle.jpg
Approach to Triangle Corner (second timed run) - all going rather wrong, probably to lack of talent on my part, but I could blame the tyres, track, weather, etc etc etc:

An finally, this picture - only because I like it:

Reet got the thumbs up from extreme, they say it was the clutch not fully disingauging! some setting needs 3mm of free play all the time....Im going to wait till loton and see, i was sure it was something more serious as it started with only 3rd to 4th! which has to be syncro probs? But any way will have the car for loton lets hope the weather holds out for us!
Turns out it was the pedal adjustment only getting half the pedal movment. picked it up today what a difference i have gears! best the gearbox has ever felt! Problem is now ive been ill for the past 3 days!
Bring it on rain!
Bring it on rain!
Reet, God day! Rob takes first place with 57.11 just beating my 57.15 and the old man is gaining fast with a 58.12! Started out really really wet slashing down stuck my kumhos on did one bloody run and it stop raining! Second practice put my slicks back on and went out grip testing ran a 57.92, only got two practice runs someone hit a tyre wall had to be rebuilt. First competitive run was odd
Dont know if this has happened to anyone but the start line mashals set me up wrong on the beam and it set the clock running while i was getting ready!! not knowing i left the line got to the top and set a 60.24 with a 4.72 launch! Went to Jim i think his name is and got told it was my fault... just before my second run he came over to me and said it was the mashals and I can get a second run! Fair play to him! Second run (actually my first) set a 57.42 bloody scary run lots of mistakes! Third run (second) Set a 57.15 just missing out on first place behind rob! Well in dude! ****ing 1.85 launch's you onion! i want those.

Well done to all.
At this rate Rob will be leaving the line before he get there!
That 2nd gear is a very useful one Pete, it gets you to places Rob and I would need a change to 3rd for.
Weather looks tropical to me...
Graham.

Weather turned out alright after it pissed down in the morning.
A day of PB's, my best ever launch of 1.85, and my best ever times.
First dry practice I posted a 57.30, smashing my PB by nearly a second, but on my first competetive run I tried to take a bit of 3rd gear into the first hair pin and over-cooked it locking up and posting a slower 57.74.
Final run I pulled out a 57.11 good enough to take Roy's old class C1 record before the A4 showed up (C1 record now 56.17) and only 2 tenths behind the class C3 record of Geoff Kershaw's mega 600bhp sierra @ 56.90.
Pete had a weird beam creeping episode which Jim put his hands up to after seeing his marshalls make 2 further mistakes after Pete's complaint. He got an extra Run off the back of his 2nd timed run acting as his own tyre warmer posting a good launch and giving me a bit of a scare with 57.15.
Back again tommorrow, watching back the video there is still plenty of time to be had, but easier said than done, and of course dependant on the weather.

In car video of my final run, 1.85 Launch, 22.58 triangle split, and finish time of 57.11.

Good to see you both at Loton yesterday. I'm glad my little suggestion about your rear wing had a positive effect Pete. If you put it back to normal before the run home it'll probably save you about a fiver in fuel
Cheers,

What a battle, no rain and some nice spells of sunshine so off to a good start! First competitive runs Rob 56.70 (new record) Me 56.98 and the old man was just behind cant remeber his time will have to wait for the results!
Second competitive run My 56.61 (new new record) Rob slipped off the track just after triangle due to some funny camber settings if you ask me,! Amazing how he drove it so well all weekend as it was! he was right on the pace aswell but i guess thats motorsport for you!
