From the brief description I have (I emailed saker after reading about your conversion kit) they simply state "See photo attached, this also shows our new sequential shifter" and the attached photo just shows what looks like a standard box with a load of extra linkages on the side.

Dub Warrior, not sure where you are but I inherited free a engine subframe, which is currently hung up on my garage wall. If you are anywhere near Hampshire let me know as you can have for nothing. I only used it for measurements myself.

Like you say delinquent in just looks like a late model 5 speed box. The K.A.S.S unit takes a forward or backward movement and converts it into a forward/backward and across the gate movement at the gearbox. Have seen a similar concept for Hewland transaxle + others a few years back by a french company called Selexy International, the company disappeared though.
Thanks for posting the pic by the way

Guy, what are you using for your coolant pipes? i still need another couple of metres of alloy tube to tie in my coolent system but i paid £50 for the two lengths that ive already got so i dont want to pay that much again, seems alot, they dont make copper pipe in 38mm either.

I got my alloy tube from metalsupermarket, Metal Supermarkets I am using 32mm myself as that is what the diameter of the hose to the cossie rad is anyway. A guy I know in Oz is using 35mm and is running a tuned 2.5 sti in his Spyder. The alloy tube is cheaper than copper tubing. I paid about £17 for 3.5m of 1.5mm wall 32mm od.
Mine a mixture of solid and flexible rubber, as I have to route around the chassis rails which are inside the car. Got some very flexible rubber hose from my local Pirtek http://http://www.pirtek.co.uk
It's the IRAD hose on page 413 of the link below. Comes in various sizes and ain't cheap, but it's bendy

Heard through the grapevine the Saker sequential was about $1800NZ which is about £700. plus of course extra's (to get it here and UK ripoff taxes). On the plus side Auntie/Uncle are about 5 mile from Saker in NZ, could visit them on hols and buy one :-)

Blimey, that would explain why they didn't include the price when they emailed me the details! Makes a Porsche flappy paddle box look almost bargain budget... How much was your basic conversion kit all told by the time you had it here rentonone?
Spyder550, mind if I ask whereabouts in Hampshire you are? Would love to see your project (mind you would love to see rentonones as well!)

What are you guys doing about the dreaded SVA?
I have been giving this a lot of thought today and with the van not being UK registered yet cos its got no MOT, there is now way I can build the van up to standard spec to get it registered so I reckon I am going to be forced to SVA it.
Can anybody tell me anything about the SVA test as I don't know much about it at all.
From what I can make out, if the car is imported, left-hand drive or seriously altered then it will have to sit an SVA test.
This will test the bus against the standards of modern vehicles.
Not a problem with the engine, suspension, brakes etc as they will be uprated to the maximum. But silly little things can fail a car.
I heard a story about a guy whose AC COBRA replica failed because one of the headlight screws had a rough edge on it! The owner was told to put bluetac on it for the retest! For ****s sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even little things like the dash not being padded (its all steel) or the rain gutter on the roof protruding too far. Seriously, heard about someone who had to tape over his raing gutters to make them "SAFE".
Also you apparently get points for every original component that remains
- Chassis and body is 5 points
- suspension - 2 points
- Engine - 2 points
- transmission - 2points
- steering - 2 points
You need 8 points to not be given a Q plate.
Looking at that list, I should just scrape 8 points assuming they don't mind the suspension and chassis being slightly altered or modifyed.
My MOT guys have advised me to build it and, as long as it conforms to MOT standards, they will issue an MOT certificate.
Really don't know what to do.

Department for Transport - The Single Vehicle Approval Scheme
Reading this bit from the above link I would initially say you would be SVA free, as it is a lot more than 10 years old.
Will SVA affect you?
Generally, your vehicle will need to be approved under the SVA scheme and issued with a Minister's Approval Certificate (MAC) if it is up to 10 years old from the date of manufacture and is not covered by either an EC or national type approval (British or similar national approval from another European Economic Area Member State).

Great news
I have an answer and its brilliant news.
The day started off really badly when I visited the SVA centre to aski his opinion and was told "There is no way that a VW camper will ever pass the SVA" due to the steering column being too close to the driver and moveing over 120mm in a front end impact.
So that gutted me.
Anyway, I have just rang a specialist insure out of Volksworld mag and put the question to them of "What paperowrk would you require with regards to mods?"
I was informed that, as long as the vehicle had an MOT and all the mods were declared they would insure it. There is no need for an enginners report or SVA. They TRUST that people aren't going to put cars together that are dangerous.
Sounds too good to be true but it'll do for me.
With regards to the engine mods, they stated that they would just put the VW into the same category as the subaru that the engine came from.
I think they may have a few customers soon!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still got to register the bus in standard spec to please the DVLA but the project is GO again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, every bit of it.
That was phase 2 of the Ford, first it had an MGA engine with original beam axle front with Jag rear, but after a nasty crash not looking at the road one evening, it was rebuilt with a Ford V6, 3 speed auto, Viva front end and a lot lot more. All done in a single garage with gas and arc welder.
The car is now in the States...
It shows that anything can be strung together. I did 20K miles a year in it and the car got me my first real job! (I was 21 at the time).

I must admit to missing Hot Rodding. The very best garage fun/buzz you can get.
I envey you lot building these specials, but i no longer have the space and the patience for it having done such things for 15 years before restoring the 911 see < and going racing instead.

You are in Telford?
I'm in Wolves!
Have you ordered a sub-frame from Rentonone yet?
I do notsee the engine intruding too far into the tub od the bus in my mind as the Impreza engine dimension from drive shaft to front pulley is not much more than 600mm.
as to helping out? Will certainly drop by and have a look!
My wife thinks all the hot rod stuff is behind me! (I still buy Custom Car even at my age..)

Definately a small world!!!
I like the whole hot rod scene too and wold love to build a ***** out '35 Ford pick up, but I still love the air cooled VW scene (just not their sewing machine engines).
Anyway, plans.............
It would seem that, in order to be able to register the splitty with the DVLA and have no problems, I am going to have to do a quick resto job on her to get an M.O.T. Then once registered, I'll pull all the mechanics out and go to town with the Scooby and custom bits.
The bodywork resto will take me quite a while. Apart form the chassis which is solid, it needs pretty much the entire lower 6 inches replacing from the rear wheels forwards. Got most of the panels on their way to me so will start welding in the summer (driveway project).
Then it will just be a simple task of rebuilding all of the mechanical components to M.O.T standard, a complete rewire, refreshing the brakes and suspension, etc.
Not going to be very exciting for a while but it's a means to an end.
Give me a bell if your ever in Telford, will be nice to put a face to the user names.

I'm in Bridgnorth! Didn't expect to see so many local people all doing similar things, lol!
Nice project, I'm just looking to fit WRX engine and running gear into my MK6 Escort

I used to hire mine and it was great. Best if you do that to get some copper electrode bar to custom make some tips at times.
They work well if used properly and will use 240v garage plug etc.
Think MIG/plug welding possibly better esp if using pre galvanised sheet steel as the spot welder at this level has trouble biting trough the zinc at times.
If you plug weld invest in a hole punch, far better than drilling 4mm holes!
