Flatcap, you'll probably dismiss this straight away as it isn't in "Evo", but have you read the hatch test in this months "Car"?
Not a magazine I ever buy or read, so no idea what their reviews or reviewers are like, but they put the new Type R first and had nothing but praise for it.

I've zero interest in testing one because I've no interest in purchasing one and having been down a similar route in the past with a S2000, I wouldn't want to be reminded of that experience.

Gawd-dammit. Here is me thinking I wrote a positive review based on a long test drive of the FN2 over a variety of roads, and a back to back comparison with both the older model, and a few of its rivals, but it was only because I have some kind of vested interest due to owning an EP3. Hmmm I wonder does that mean i get some kind of 'loyalty' bonus for bigging up Hondas , or even some kind of royalty for every car sold. Cool
Ooh I better not say anything good about Scoobies either as I have one of those too, and I would not want anyone to think I was biased in some way

As many (most) of us haven't driven it - and magazine reviews are still in the "it's new so it must be best" phase - I don't think anyone can say one way or another if it's 'hot hatch king'.
I have my doubts, but give it 6 months and a more balanced view will probably be available.

TBH I do not think anyone can ever really say that anyway. I mean surely everyones requirements are very different. I have been lucky enough through work to be able to drive many of its rivals. Golf GTI, VXR, Focus ST , Mazda 3 MPS and the hot Megane. I have found it on many levels to be well balanced compared to those. But that is partly due to the fact I like N/A hi revving engines in a chuckable car, but it has to be reliable and something I can use everyday without fear of something conking out. Someone who perfers more overall grunt would be better of with one of the others. I still maintain however that the Civic is very good. Balanced, great feedback that responds well to driver inputs, chuckable and fun. You really cannot want more.
I guess at the end of the day we are pretty spoiled, these manufacturers as falling over themselves, trying to produce the car of the moment, and there really is something to suit all tastes and driving styles. What ever you end up with, if you are in the market for one of the new hot hatches I think you would be happy.

How is that unbiased? I haven't offered one single opinion on this car other than to say I'm surprised that it got a slating by (now) several magazines. My involvement in this thread started as a result of others telling me that a certain magazine article's were unrealistic and now I'm being quoted other magazine's articles as the real deal because they put a glossier view on the car?
One bloke openly admits to working for Honda and gives a one sided view of the car based on a few laps of the track and others defend the Civic on the basis that they've got one/similar model.
The trouble with a lot of people on here is that they insist that their vehicle is the best thing since sliced bread and refuse to admit that it has any shortcomings whatsoever.

FWIW I am not bothered one way or the other whether the car is any good and agree with you how some people defend their cars over anything else (witness the Porsche Boxster thread for instance).

Well it had to happen. On the M27 this morning saw my first new CTR on the M27 motorway. Heading towards pompey. The person driving nearly stuffed it into the car in front when he was in the 2nd lane just b4 junction 10 and clearly not concentrating on the traffic in front. I really thought he had left it way, way, way, too late, you know that feeling when you see a car flying towards a block of braking cars knowing the tool is looking down at the stereo or something. Luckily for them he/she managed to move into the 3rd lane whilst nearly cutting up the poor sod already there not me I hasten to add, I had been breaking for seconds anticipating the bunch up So I spose it might have reasonable brakes
Now I could forgive the driver for this misdemeanour (is that how u spell it ?) but when he did a very similar manouver where the M27 meets the A27, flying towards the car in the second lane in front of him and missing it by inches only to cut the car in the thrid lane up, I thought...."what a complete tool"
If it was anyone here I'm sorry but your driving is crap........car looked ok on the road but didn't make me go "WOW". I've seen the stats from LetsTorqueBHP - Home and the times are shocking compared to the old CTR.
I was anticipating this car on the road for quite few months and it really hasn't inspired me to consider a test drive now I have seen how it looks in the flesh. In the best colour as well or so I thought....black.
One to strike off the list then......

The format change it had recently has pretty much ruined it, but previously I would have rated it over any other car magazines. They've always gone for quality journalism rather than sensationalist. (Kind of like The Times but in car magazines)

I had a go in one the other day and IMO not much improvement in performance over the old car. The interior looks interesting though...I also drove the clio afterwards - I wouldn't buy either TBH
