It is, we know where you're coming from.
Even though she's not alive, I am glada we have found her and know where she is, rather than just keep wondering where she might be or is she alive or not.
Is very sad though

Steve, Donna & kids,
I'm really sorry to hear about Pipheadhugs to you all. I'm glad you found her and she is home where she belongs.
When my cat had to be put to sleep, we buried him in the back garden - to stop anyone disturbing him, we went to a local garden centre and they had ornamental slabs with a cat 'embossed' onto it. Thats Montys memorial

Good idea that LG, I think it would be nice to put something there, will be nice to at least keep her memory alive
I feel guilty that she's been there for 7 days and we didn't know, not far from the house either

Oooh nasty - Sympathies.
It's better to know what happened though.
We had the brightest and possibly maddest collie ever and he just disappeared one day - About five years old but never knew what happened.
Still get sad moments about it many years later.

You couldn't have known - you said she had a habit of disappearing for a while when she was spooked.

to bed honest 18 months ago i would have laughed at you all.
we got a cat around 6 months ago after the kids have seen off every other pet we have.
at first i was sneezing my head of and resentful of it, now its one of the family.
i used to put it out at every opportunity, now i bring it in as much as possible.
its amazing how they grow on you, we wouldnt be without him now.
he has really brightened the kids lives up. im sorry to hear of your loss and hope you manage to get by over the next few weeks.

Thanks for all the comments again
Every time I go outside for a smoke, get in the car, take the rubbish out etc, its really hard, cos most of the time she would be there, and I would spend some time with her
I have in the last few years always fed her just before going to bed too
I didnt think I would feel as bad as I do tonight since I saw her, I guess it is just hitting home that she has now gone
I keep thinking there must be something that can be done, take her the vets etc, or she will just wake up and come back, at least one more time
12 years is a long time, but she still had a good 8 or so years left, and even tho she was the age she was, she was still quite a young cat, in her looks and her ways
I dont think Ive ever come across a softer, milder, more timid cat than Piphead

Im *assuming* she was hit
the report we had from the Cats Protection Leaue was that someone had phoned in a cat that had been knocked down, and they wanted to know what should they do about it, the person who called it in was told to phone the council cleansing department (but obviously didnt)
Bearing in mind this was Monday the 8th Jan, so she has been lying there for 7 days (at least) and to me she looked like she was lying there alseep, except her fur was slightly damp around the edges (not dis-similar to after being out in the rain)
My guess and a total one at that is that she possibly has been hit by a car/horse wagon, or even a horse, and she has probably lay down like I found her to die peacefully
She was fully intact (eyes missing naturally) and had a slightly strange look on her mouth (as if in pain/wincing kind of thing) I picked her up and she was as stiff as a board, and placed her in a box, and she is now buried in the garden, but her fur was still really soft, as was her tail, but there wasnt any signs of broken limbs or damage to her, apart from a slight amount of blood on the inside of her mouth, so my guess is she has died from internal bleeding of sorts
Its funny in some ways, that very very little traffic actually goes down that bit of dirt track (as it isnt actually a road) but quite a number of pedestrians go there (as its a horse riding place) and also the police keep their horses there as it backs onto the police training unit, and no one else has moved her or reported anything
I am really surprised (considering the amount of fields around here) that she was still completly intact, and not been attacked by birds/foxes/hedgehogs/mice etc etc etc especially as she has been lying there for 7 days

Ive just actually had a thought
she had one mark on her body, that looked like a small hole with what looked like white around it
i didnt really think too much about it at the time I picked her up, but with the way she was lay, and its not unheard of around here, that she could have been shot by a pellet gun/rifle
there has been a few stories lately of animal cruelty around here too, and it is a pretty remote road for traffic to go down, when I first moved in here there used to be several people with pellet rifles that used to shoot things in the small woods opposite the house, as I would constantly hear them going off
recently I have seen the odd person go past the house with a rifle (in its rifle case etc) I hope she hasnt been shot and left to die

Sonic, don't beat yourself up. You are upset enough and she is with you all now, at least in spirit. You'll make yourself ill thinking of how she may have died.
Have a drink and a good cry, it's ok for men to cry you know, hugs to you all

Somebody stole my gal
Thought these Cab Calloway lyrics were kind of appropriate. It's actually a fun song if you know it:
Somebody stole my gal,
Somebody stole my pal,
Somebody came and took her away,
She didn't even say she was leavin',
Her kisses I love so,
He's gettin' now I know...
And gee, I know that she,
Would come to me
If she could see,
Her broken hearted lonesome pal,
Somebody stole my gal!
Somebody stole my gal,
Somebody stole my pal,
Somebody came and took her away,
She didn't even say she was leavin',
Her kisses I love so,
He's gettin' now I know...
And gee, I know that she,
Would come to me
If she could see,
Her broken hearted lonesome pal,
Somebody stole my gal!

Thanks UB
Thanks Lesley too , I know you are right, and I know I shouldnt really have done this, but I have just got her up to check her out, as my mind wouldnt rest, and have thoroughly checked her body, and there isnt a mark on her at all, which is some comfort
the white patch I saw earlier was similar to one still on her head, and it is more than likely a bit of bird muck I guess in the dim light and initial grief I wasnt quite looking right,
The only area at all was some blood around her mouth, but pretty much expected really
So I can rule out any kind of shooting thankfully, and now she can properly rest in peace and i may sleep a 'bit' easier tonight
She did just look like she had lay paws curled up, to to slowly pass away

Well
I called at the local farm, and they hadnt reported any cat being runover, so I decided to go down this bit of dirt track where the horse stables are from another farm
Couldnt see anyone about, so I drove back up and there she was, little Piphead at the side of the dirt track lying there just like she was asleep, and only slightly dirty from the bit of rain we have had
So I went home, told Donna, and we all walked down there to pick her up and bring her home
I have just buried her in the front garden where she spent a lot of her time, it has to have been one of the hardest things I have ever had to do
just picking her up was really upsetting, along with seeing her lying there
At least she is back home with us all now
RIP Piphead

Since finding 'Sonic the Lost Dog Yoda Ears' Donna has spent quite a bit of time on a number of the 'Lost Dog' forums to originally try and find his owner
however on one of the forums Alfie's Lost Terriers and this thread Our cat Piphead Donna mentioned Piphead, and they have something called the Rainbow Bridge Montage
It is Dedicated to our dogs that are no longer with us - It is a permanent tribute to them and is dedicated to the owners to let you know that they will never be forgotten
Recently they have started to add cats to the montage too, and have asked if we would like Piphead to be added, which they have now gratefully done
Here is the link if you wish to view it
