I think I may have lost my cat for good

Steve had another one as well as Piphead (the name still makes me chuckle) It was her brother, but he decided the food was better elsewhere and never bothered to come back, he has been spotted occasionally though
Piphead was a real softie and like Steve said, never far from the house. She was a very timid little thing too, purred at everything She has gone wondering off for a couple of days in a row before now, but always came back, never been away this long, and usually if you don't see her you hear her little bell on her collar somewhere and it had been really quiet. I thought I would gove her a chance to come back before calling anywhere but I wish I had called sooner now so that we may have at least had a chance to pick her up, treat her if she was injured, or bury her in the worst case
Will miss the little pip headed thing

Yes they can be choosy like that! My next door neighbour's cat was once mewing outside his door early one morning. It seemed she had been out all night and wanted some food. I got a piece of chicken and called her over the cat came over immediately, and wolfed down the chicken and looked at me with 'got any more' eyes. I duly obliged and went to work. The following morning same time she was there waiting for me! After a few days she decided to move in and would spend hours sprawled in front of our fire.

When my brother moved house, he took his cat with him, and he went straight back, and after a week his old neighbour phoned to tell him his cat was there, and had been there all week, and because my bro had moved he had fed him
So my bro went to get him, and two days later he got another phone call from his old neighbour to say his cat was back there, so he had fed it etc, my Bro told his old neighbour he may as well keep it then, as he kept feeding it, and he didnt want to be called every day to go and collect his cat

Years ago, my wifes family cat ran away, we looked everyevening after work till past midnight, and when we almost gave up 6 days into searching around a dangerous neighbourhood, we received a phone call, the cat had fallen into an abandoned house's chimney and wasnt able to get out, luckily the owners came back for a quick check of the house, saw the signs two and two together.
Was told cats do part to go and pass-on though, its natural so we thought it may have been that. Still going strong today, she must be 17 by now. Tough cat!

Thanks LG
Hopefully she will be in a vets somewhere, but it's not very likely, will have to ring the council's cleansing dept tomorrow to see if they scraped her off the road

That's a silly thing to think. Something outside may have spooked her

Mark not at all !!!!!!
Just before you turned up, in fact when I was on the phone to you whilst stood outside, I had a look round to see if i could see her, before you pulled up, but she wasnt actually around
the other thing is, was that it *must* have happened on monday after 8/9 o clock, as I went up that road monday morning, and there was no sign of any animal run over
Also checked with the old woman a few doors up, as she walks her dog up there several times a day, and she never saw any animal run over either
She has always had a habit of disappearing when *anyone* turns up at the house, unless its me n Donna etc, she even scarpers from the kids too, and I dont think she has ever really been near them
when I say disappear, I actually mean she will go into next doors garden or round the back of the house out of the way, or more importantly just out of sight
I really dont know how I feel at the moment, every time I go outside I feel gutted, and start thinking about her being hit by a car, and the look she would have had on her face before it happened
I just keep expecting her to jump on the bonnet, or come from out of the bushes

Now, don't go thinking silly things like that!! She scarpers when we come outside too because she's so timid and hates the noise Andrew makes
She is often in next door's porch having a nap, she's cheeky
You have absolutely NOTHING to feel guilty about She wanders over there often, it is just unfortunate she got hit this time

The cats protection have just rung me, it was a member of the public who called in saying she had been run over, they live on a farm on the road where it happened She was advised to ring the council for the cleansing department to move her, so I was told to ring them.
I rung the council, cleansing said they picked no cats up last week, and if they do they keep collars and scan for chips to identify them. They told me to speak to customer care in case they had it logged, but they had no info either.
I am thinking maybe the person from the farm moved her. Maybe she was still alive which is why she wouldn't ring cleansing, or maybe thought it would be nicer to bury her on the farm....I don't know

Our current cat disappeared for over a week. He follows people he knows and my GFs sister was staying with us and she walked to the shop. She'd been told not to let him follow but didn't.
Assumed the worst so got on with things. Out the blue theres a message on the phone from the vets saying they think our cat has been handed in.
Go down there and all you can here is a cat screaming its head off. Went to the counter and I said "Would you like me to take my cat home now?" knew it was him. Someone had found him in Tesco which is next door to the vets and handed him in.

Can't say how sorry I am to hear about Piphead Sonic. I really hope it was not her whowas knocked down and she returns safely.
We have had our "Floyd" for over 22 years and we would be desolate if that happened to him.

Well
I called at the local farm, and they hadnt reported any cat being runover, so I decided to go down this bit of dirt track where the horse stables are from another farm
Couldnt see anyone about, so I drove back up and there she was, little Piphead at the side of the dirt track lying there just like she was asleep, and only slightly dirty from the bit of rain we have had
So I went home, told Donna, and we all walked down there to pick her up and bring her home
I have just buried her in the front garden where she spent a lot of her time, it has to have been one of the hardest things I have ever had to do
just picking her up was really upsetting, along with seeing her lying there
At least she is back home with us all now
RIP Piphead

Really sorry to hear your news.
I've been through it myself on so many occasions, it never gets any easier, at at least you've got some sort of closure now.
To that scumbag who has tried to use this thread to bring a little humour to his sad life, why don't you go away in an unpleasant manner!!!!

Sonic & Donna, I don't know what to say
So sorry for you and the kids.
Not sure if this will help, but when our cat died, a few years ago, we buried him in the garden and planted a tree on top of him. It's now called Dylan's tree and is a beauty

Aww
I suggested to Steve earlier to plant a nice plant or perhaps a tub of nice flowers to place where she is so that the kids etc won't stand where she is. For now though, he has put a small wooden cross there
We couldn't put a tree there, it's near the front door.
Thanks for everyone's kind comments
