well most places wont give u your deposit back,

i sold a car to a young chap a while back he left 100 quid deposit and on the little reciept i gave him said it was non refundable as i wanted the car gone... taking up too much space and i wanted the cash for my scoob...
he backed out and i said i will give him half back as good will... he was only 18 and he turned nasty so told him where to go though!

Text him back sayin i wanted a version 5/6 that is a version 4 i have been informed

It is a 6+ year old car, a lot of cars of that vintage have been in accidents, this should not be a reason to walk away unless the repairs are poor and/or the accident was a major one.

would be worth asking why the front end is off an older car or get an RACV check to be sure.

There are plenty of cars out there so do not be afraid to walk away

[quoteJust point out to him why you changed your mind.
It IS a V4, NOT A V5.[/quote]

But the seller has NEVER said it was a version 5 as far as I'm aware. He's offered a Version 4 for sale and taken a deposit. He 'could' hold onto that deposit although as a good will gesture I'd expect him to give it back given you were actually after a Version 5 and not fully clued up yet.

Just looked and you're right saxo boy.
If you both agreed yesterday that it was a V4, then put the deposit down, he has no obligligation to give you your deposit back.
I just rang the guy and he said that there are lots of people interested in it, so he isn't going to lose any money.
Even if you lose your deposit, you will save more money selling the lexus privately and looking for a cheaper sti 4/5/6. Which won't be difficult!

How much is the deposit? Be as polite as possible with the bloke as after all he doesn't have to give you anything back at all.

Depends what you're looking for I suppose. Don't forget though that these cars ARE expensive to run. Can you cope with 20mpg max? And only using V-Power or tesco 99 ron fuel??
If you are happy with it, buy it. The V4 sti is a cracking car, in some ways, I wish I still had mine.
But, and its a big but, make sure that you get atleast 1 years warrenty that covers for upto £2K per claim. Some warrenties only offer £500 per claim, which won't cover a 1/4 of the cost of an engine rebuild.

If you mean the blue one from redlineperformance, that is a P reg, so its an sti 3. Plus, I didn't think sti's of that age came in mica blue, so it may well be a wrx.
It is very hard to find a genuine car, as most of the cheap ones are either dogs, or not what they're supposed to be!

I've got a V4 Type R. I'd hought I'd got the best car for the money but ended up spending ££££s on it as it was poorly maintained and I didn't know much about Subarus either.

Buy the best car you can afford. £9k for a V4 is excessive. This is my opinion though and others may disagree. For £7ish k you could get an STI V4 and have the insurance covered for a year too!!

ESH - You say your car was poorly maintained? Did it come with much history showing whats been done? This Impreza is showing reciepts for all oil changes, and all work done to it, i've been through it all and it all worked out correct.

Matt_taylor - are you crackers, why do you love sitting in it on the drive!?

chrispurvis100 - Cheers for replying again, the car is used at my leisure, as i get the bus to work . So only use the car for going the gym 2-3 miles away, and taking for a spin when i fancy going for a run in it. This will be the 3rd import i've owned so im well used to using Optimax/V-Power. MPG isn't to much a worry with me only using the car when i want to, as apposed to when i have too

He said his warrenty company cannot offer warrentys on Impreza's or Evo's, i dont know how true that is but its what he's telling me
yes slightly demented but please dont hold it against me!!

got no fuel in it at the mo and been doin some work on it so not been anywhere

So i been using my run around and sittin in it on my drive going

BRRUUUMMMM BRRUUMMMMM NNEEEEEEEEIOOOOIIII TTSSSHHHHHHHH WWWAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPPPP TTSSHHHHH LOL

i even hold onto the steering wheel and pretend to turn it!

ok so heres a hypothetical for you, you drive 5 miles down the road, and the big end goes, if you bought it from a dealer with a warrenty you get a rebuild for free or a refund, so you've lost nothing. you buy from there, o dear, your out 2 grand for the rebuild.
thats y dealers prices are higher, they have to account for possible warrenty claims etc.
scobs when treated badly can be a pain in the ****, even when treated right they can have ongoing problems that may not be apparent at the time of slae.

i bought my car private, and then had to fork out £500+ 3 months later when the rear suspension started going, had i gone through a dealer then i wouldn't have had to pay a penny, ut i bought it sold as seen.

p.s. i don't begrudge buying it becuase i love it to bits, and the suspension is the only problem i've ever had

if it was a good car and i trusted the seller then i wouldnt bat a eye lid,

i paid 3800 for my 85k P plate uk2000 some people said it was a tad too much but it is immaculate and had a new engine in it at 84k as the cambelt snapped and he put a whole new lump in!
