how should I feel!?

No , you aren't being paranoid at all. It's not right for someone to "want to get to know" their ex again.
He sounds like a very weak indivual that you are better off without.
Ruthlessly dump him and say you aren't prepared to put up with this behaviour.

From: Tellins, Home of Super Leagues finest, and where a "split" is not all it seems.
I went out with a girl from 1992-1994 and after split we only spoke at other peoples parties etc.
In 2000 we got back in touch, well I contacted her and we have been in contact ever since. Nothing has happened and it's all been by email, but regular contact has led to nothing other than me getting wedding and baby photo's from her and regular updates as to how our lives are progressing as we grow up.
My lady who I have been with for 3 years knows we are in touch but it's so innocent neither of us really mention it.
The ex mentions the 4 of us going out together, but they live miles away and I'm not that fussed.
So in short, it's unlikely to be innocent, but it could be. If he has a track record for being a liar then excercise caution and try to have an open conversation about it explaining your concerns etc.

Why
Are you short with ginger hair
Seriously though, if after 3 years together, you feel you can't ask him what he's thinking about with something as important as this, without him accusing you of being paranoid, I'd say you've answered your own question!
What's the point of being in a relationship if you can't talk to each other openly and honestly

He'll lie to try and get what's best for him. He'll just try and change tactics so that e can have his cake and eat it too.

Its worth a try, if it was me I would talk to him and tell him how I feel and if I wasn't happy with the answer, then I'd dump him!!..

Ex's are in the past and that's where they should stay. There are people that say they are still in contact with an ex but generally the ex has another partner or there are kids involved.
But if the ex is still single there is only a couple of reasons for him to be interested again - free casual sex or he's thinking of getting out of the relationship.
