Toyo Proxes T1R all the way. Mine have worn about 1.5mm in 6000 miles. Good grip in wet and dry. £71 sounds a good price, as I think I paid £80 each here in Bournemouth.

imho anyone wanting to put cheap/budget rubber on a performance vehicle needs to think again. Why pay for expensive mods etc. and then scrimp on the most critical part of the car?

T1-R are the replacements for T1-S

Maybe thats why the T1-S are a bit cheaper

Just for the record I have 215/45/17 and they do rub the arches, even with 1 person in the back. The car has been lowered, but I suspect this may not happen with the 40s.

I wonder if its something to do with the wheels offset too

I have Compomotive MO's on mine, and they do catch on 45's but only when the car is fully laden, and only on the dips in the road

I cant remember how much the eibachs lower the car, but it is fractionally lower than standard

215/45 is the wrong tyre size for classics, hence the problems with rubbing etc. These will also affect the gearing by a few percent (3.6%) also, effectively giving you slightly slower acceleration in each gear.

The correct sizes for 17 inch rims are either 205/45x17 or 215/40x17. You should find that tyres in the 215/40x17 size are usually less expensive than 215/45x17, as they are a more popular tyre size for a variety of cars.

However, the one thing to be aware of is that fitting the larger tyres will also cause your speedo to under-read by 3.6% as well. This isn't a huge amount (about 3mph at an indicated 75mph), but this could easily be the difference between a speeding ticket and no speeding ticket!

205/45 are more expensive as the only real option is from Pirelli (as used by Prodrive) which is why most people use 215/40 when you can have a larger/cheaper range to choose from (but some are not of the correct load rating!). Personally apart from one set (Toyo T1-s) when i had a classic i used the recommended size from Prodrive, 205/45 Pirelli.
