Jon,

Pleased it's going well. Sounds like you've done a good job of putting all the parts together.

DRB5,

Lag is a state of mind...........

My standard STi4 felt "laggy" when I first got it, but then I'd been used to driving a 4.0lt V8. It's all relative !

We just get used to the new turbo threshold, and no more lag

Lol good point Mark, but if you were only getting full boost at 6500 rpm, you'd soon change for something a bit more "suitable".

Not had as bad as 6500rpm yet, but when we fitted different heads/cams to my engine just before TOTB, spool up was appaulling, and we weren't getting full boost until 5300rpm

But it was still good for mid 10's, and 194.8mph over the mile

That 5300rpm turned out to be down to the cam timing not matching the cams. It's a shame that the Subaru adjustable pulleys are so expensive, and such a PAIN to set up, because there are some really good gains to be had.

Lol, you'd have seen it coming if anything though eh?

Maybe someone will do the decent thing and extend the cams out the back of the head, so we can get a spanner onto them and remove the wheel without all the added work...

Well I got the GT3040 mapped yesterday and it feels fairly brisk
mapper says it feels like its in the 530-550 hp range.

Mapping the GT3542 tommorow with a touch of nitrous to give it full spool at 3500 rpm hoping for mid 600's or I should say very low 10's or better don't care about the HP just the times. Now that will be exciting

The warranty on our engine / parts just expired Jon !! { you never told me you were going to race it }

Good luck, keep in touch with how it all turns out. I presume AF is sunning himself a bit then ?? He always says that APi prepared engines are a pleasure to map, as they are so quiet, compared to others.

Flat shifting will be OK, but remember that PPG gears come as pairs IE.;
1 & 2, 3 & 4, so if you are unlucky and damage 2nd and 3rd and it'll be another complete set.......... Then I recommend we use dog shift and you'll just have to stop using it as a road car [ fun or not ]

wel as some of you know we had an accident with the car and took the advantage of the down time to further enhance the car.

I thought I would start to post a few pics and update the progress with this 2.35 build.

The driveshaft was damaged so I have replaced it wih a CF unit, the block and heads have been oringed and 2mm copper gaskets installed and TRP cams installed along with TRP 14mm head bolts.
also a new lateral rad/intercoller combo in used.
more pics to follow as we dry fitted the engine for pipe work yesterday.

You mean he might get dizzy after a while ?

The cam case breathers breathe very little in comparison the crank case, those filters work fine, at least I hope so that’s what I have been using for a long time..

I think the cams are a little on the small side though

As for the vapors Graham, the car will only be traveling a 1/4 mile at a time
So Im not worried to much about any mess the engine bay will be cleaned every couple of miles.
I put the engine in this week fabricated all the intercooling pipe work, inlet piping and oil cooler and fuel cooler mounting/plumbing, pulled the engine backout for the degreeing of the cams and cam timing setup and inspection by St. Lucias' resident tuner .

TRP recomends with crank @TDC inlet 2.5mm lift and exhaust 1.5mm lift what are people with other performance cams running for timming?

If you are serious about running at the Pod and other UK venues you may need to do a better job with the breathers as they will not tolerate a single drop of oil on the track (and they do check).

As for cam timing, that is not a measurement I have any feel for, as I time my cams using a measure of crank rotation for max cam lift. I would set it to the recommended settings and see how you go. The ideal settings may need some experimetation, but once set you should be able to adjust them from a know base timing without pulling the engine.

I really like it so far, someone's got to keep the tuners upping the pace!

Paul

Well we had some difficulties with the copper head gaskets and orings and ended up pulling the engine out and rebuilding twice in 7 days but we have now got everything sorted and the car is pulling well, we have just run out of injector duty cycle (800cc at 4 bar).
here is an early clip from the setup runs. a local skyline GT-R decided to line up with us and teach us a lesson.

O-ring fabrication, sealing of the oil water galleys and torque.

The first two were due to lack of experience and unclear generalized instructions from TRP.

The first time we torqued the heads to a eyewatering 100 ft/lbs per TRP instructions, after speaking with tony rigoli again he sad that they torque the street cars to 100 ft/lbs and the race cars to a nose bleeding 110 ft/lbs.

We did the 110ft/lbs, remade six of the orings and used new gaskets and now everything seems fine but we have only taken the engine to 2.0 bar.

I will tryout the nitrous this weekend, the engine will see the 2.0 bar and a 75 shot of nitrous. I will let you know how it goes.
