could also have a couple of unseated valves that i had on my sti2 (unbeknown to me). I had misfire as the MAF voltage was peaking (coincidence) that turned out in the end to be the valves.

The valves not seating could deffo be a problem, on yours it was ok at lower boost levels but became an issue at higher boost levels afaik? - I remember you mentioning this before

But you are running above standard boost no?
It is an easy job to alter the gaps and tells you straight away whether it is spark related.
a softish (not put you through the screen fuel cut) miss at high boost / rpm is 99times out of 100 spark related on a coilpacked car.. dropping the gaps will solve it..

I have the same problem at high revs in all gears, so I had the map checked, it highlighted the cam and crank sensors?. I have changed coil pack, leads, crank sensor, cam sensor, MAF, plugs and installed a £140 earthing kit.
I have an ApexiFC mapped by AndyF - loads of performance, which pulls strongly all the way through the rev band UNTIL the problem area and then the knock sensor on the FC goes mad.
I am looking at the posibility that a pully, cambelt or cambelt tensioner may be loose or causing an increase in noise/vibration at high revs. This could be then be getting picked up by the sensors and cause my problem.
Anyway, lets hope we both get the issue cleared.

Dawg, does your needle flicker too?
Time for a new phone Del, just don't get a sony ericsson, unless you fancy standing by my shed too
So, are we saying that the coil packs are not man enough to handle raised boost and we should all run at 0.6mm, even when they are new?

the rev counter jumping sounds more like an electrical problem..
Tend to find on NGK PFR7Bs that with new coil packs a 0.6mm gap gives a better spark upto high boost.. if you are getting a miss which seems like it could be spark related it is worth closing the gap slightly to see if it improves rather than just dismissing it as you have new coil packs and plugs set to 0.7mm
