MY 99 wagon runs great on V-power,seems to pick up better and pulls very strongly all the way up to 6.5-7K which it did with a lot less urge before when I was running with 98.
also achieved 600 kms on a tank instead of just 500 kms
and I get 4 shell points a litre with V-power! and at 99 points for a big mac I need the extra octane to shift my extra weight

You ******* are lucky - The V-Power in Ireland has been out some time now but its still only 95RON, with "super dooper" cleaning agents etc etc (they call it "V-Power Unleaded").
Wish they'd bring back the SUL to the Irish market.

I put 49 in today, with the tank pretty close to empty, but there certainly wasn't room for another 10. I guess it's officially 50, but with a little extra!

Maybe it does but the only time I ever had the light on, the needle was way down past the line and I didn't want to push my luck!
I got 51 litres in it that time, if I remember right.....

I think people do need to start taking a lot of these claims with a pinch of salt and get away from this idea that just because petrol A has a higher RON rating than petrol B, that it is automatically better. This is especially true of petrols that contain ethanol.
Ethanol has a much higher octane rating than petrol, but it produces less power than the equivalent amount of petrol. In theory this would mean that you will get less MPG, not more! Use higher octane petrols if your car is mapped to use them (which means that the petrol will release all of its power, NOT produce more power (if that makes sense?)).

Can this not be said for a more powerful petrol.....
If a petrol is producing more power then I should be able to press the accel pedal less than a lower power fuel to achieve the same fixed speed..... meaning less fuel for the same result?
Thoughts?

MY 05 STi PPP am getting approx 15% better fuel consumption on V-Power.
Tesco 99 was terrible I was getting about 10 to 15 % worse?
Anyone know why?

Hi All
I bought my mint STI just over a week ago and have been told that it has been mapped for Optimax/V power , its a 1998 STI S plate runing 320 BHP with full decat , can I use SUL 98 Ron or should I stick to 99Ron and above ????? I have been using V power from shell but thought I would ask the question due to the recent petrol price reductions ..... some feedback would be appreciated ...

I've only used 1/2 a tank so far, so cannot comment on the economy or details over driving roads, but I have noticed that the car is noticeably more responsive than Tesco 99...

Scooby Monster : Tesco 99 is a bio ethanol fuel mix and this has less energy per gram than pure oil distilate petrol. Therefore it is necessary to burn more fuel for the same energy.
What I think is important is that you stick to one fuel and where appropriate, because of engine mods beyond the ECU learning/adjustment ability, map for that fuel, to achieve best results.
I have done 600 miles on one particular car with V-Power and fuel consumption seems to be a bit better but it is not the best car to check fuel consumption with and as driving conditions etc vary journey to journey it is too soon to be sure.
In ten days or so I will have more accurate info and may also have rolling road information to determine if there has been any improvement without any mapping or other changes.

Yeah get the RR info out, that will sort it.
Would test mine if i could be arsed, as i had two different RR done and both were the same readout taken at different places and months apart.
So it would be interesting to see if this fuel does make a difference without any tweaks.
As for consumption, i don't care! LOL.
It's a Subaru so that ain't something you can really be caring about surely?

FWIW, MY96 JDM WRX STi v3 - not remapped for uk "fuel" after 2 tanks of "V-powwwwweeeerrrr" and the mpg IS better.. probably 20 - 30 miles per tank, which nudges me to nearly 300 miles on a tank full...
but then, who cares?
Enjoy the scooby for what they give you, if you want economy, by a push bike.

Just averaged 30 MPG from the last tank of V power , before I used to get about 27 MPG (before you flame me I do live 'in the sticks' so I tend to get better mpg than you townies }so it looks like I've got a 10% increase in fuel consumption ....but WHY ??
