Stats from the official RS6 brochure - unladen weight as follows:
Saloon 1840kg
Avant 1880kg
Incidentally the brochure also says that a multifunction steering wheel was an option, but it seems that you lose the paddle-shift, which is why I guess few people took it up.
Gary.

Getting back to your original question after all the detours, the correct answers are:
1) Yes, it was an option, you lose the paddles with this option, but you get buttons instead.
2) The paddles were standard and they are very useful.

Certainly my standard RS6 on the autobahn last week, if you put your foot to the floor at around 140mph, it fires you into the limiter with ease. I think even bog standard it would hit 190mph. I just couldn't believe how effortless it was at 150mph. No wheel wobble, no vibration, no light steering, no 'floatyness'. Staggering.

I dont see how any M5 or RS6 would be able to get anywhere near 200 mph.
The new Ferrari 599 coupe which has the same engine as the Enzo has a claimed top speed of 205 mph. This has 611bhp, weighs 1579 kg and has the aerodynamics of a slippery fish. So the M5 reckons its faster at 207 mph !
Not knocking the M5 or RS6 both awesome cars but wish they would keep the claims realistic.

Given how ridiculously easily mine hits the limiter, I reckon it would reach an indicated 200mph without much trouble, although I do realise that would be slower in reality due to the over-read on most speedos

Hi,
The reason I have my RS6 is not for it's agility on B roads, supposed top speed or poser value. If I want to have a B road blast I use an Impreza or EVO.
I bought my RS6 for it's ability to cover large continental (read German) journeys at high speed while carrying a fairly large load with the added benefit of 4wd in the wet and snow. The natural cruising speed of mine seems to be at about 140 mph.
The only other cars I considered for these tasks were the Mercedes E55 estate and the BMW Alpina 5 series estate. No 4WD, high possibility of unreliabilty with the Mercedes and not wanting to be a BMW driver made me choose the RS6. So far it has been good. I am actually looking forward to another trip next week to Frankfurt and then on to Barcelona and back again. Perfect with this car.
Cheers

Yup. I did London > Chamonix in August and London > Leipzig last week. Effortlessly. I could have turned around and driven straight home, there aren't many cars you could say that about.
