I'm pretty sure a new 5 would ride better than some of the cars that Deep has had previously.
I took one out and the ride was better than my Legacy or the RS6 I drove a few days before, the torque was amazing and the obviously well thrashed demo car was showing 33mpg.
Depreciation would be better than most too if it's an oil burning estate.

Thanks for the info. I was just a little thrown by the fact the RS6 didn't have a mfsw, its no big deal really its just that my 5 year old merc has it.
Hi Ed. I've been f8cking around for ages trying to make my mind up. I think its always more difficult when you can't afford the car/s you really want but still have to spend a shed load on what is ultimately a compromise. How are you finding the new car?
Hi Shane. A 535D MS Touring is very tempting, especially with a DMS chip! Its just that 450 BHP, 4wd and better interior of the RS6 is also tempting. Whens the big day then?

Hi Deep,
Next September, but I'm marrying a girl whose parents have no money, so I've got to pay for her half and she wants a big wedding.
If I had the money and I was being fairly practical it would be the RS4 Tourer hands down, but being sensible the 535D Tourer would tick all my boxes.
Not many other cars could take you across continents at 100mph+ in total comfort whilst still returning 35mpg, with all your family, a boot full of luggage, be entertaining to drive and be on the good side of 40k.
Anyway back to reality, the Legacy suits my needs so it'll have to do unless that RS6 knocks on my door again.

Yes I've driven one and yes it was comfortable, what do you drive in comparison? a Bentley?
0-60 in 6.5 seconds and Max torque (Nm/rpm) 560/2000 and 35mpg.
What else could you load up with 5 people plus luggage and get those performance/economy figures?
Who wants a Passat estate if you can afford better? I could do my job in a 10 year old Astra estate, doesn't mean I want to own one.
I believe Deep would probably like something practical for during the week whilst working, but also capable of doing family stuff at the weekends whilst still being entertaining to drive.

Shane, tell the missus you're getting married in the local pub hall with a finger buffet( I'll provide the samosas) and a few close friends and then buy the car you want.
Seriously though, I have heard the ride on the 5 is a little harsh for that class of car, but I suppose I'll have to drive it and find out. What did you think of the interior of the 5? It feels/looks a little cheap for an 'executive' car to me

Somosas greatfully accepted, can you pack them with green chillies so that they have some heat, I know you Brits can't handle the heat, but I love it

Doesn't a M5 weigh about 1750kgs? Thats a big difference for same size of car.

A few years ago two companies set a target of toppping 200mph in a Sapphire Cossy. Collins and Turbo Systems, both cars had nigh on 600 bhp but neither got close to the mark. The driver commented that both cars got to 170 very quickly but after that there was little to come. Now unless someone actually test drives a standard M5 at 200mph I will take that claim with a pinch of salt.
Sorry for the hijack Deep!

here we go 2 M6's at over 200mph. Couldnt find one of the M5, although the M5's top speed is rated at 2007mph Im sure it can run alongside these two beasts.

I think someones RS6 did 199.8 (or something similar) at Bruntingthorpe too a while back. It was tuned admittedly but I think only to about 535bhp.
Certainly my standard RS6 on the autobahn last week, if you put your foot to the floor at around 140mph, it fires you into the limiter with ease. I think even bog standard it would hit 190mph. I just couldn't believe how effortless it was at 150mph. No wheel wobble, no vibration, no light steering, no 'floatyness'. Staggering.
