Some of the so-called cycle paths are a huge laugh. I reckon someone gets bonus points or 2Jags gets a whole cow to eat if the UK can assert we've got say 50K miles of the things.

Classic cycle path is Swansea seafront around to the Mumbles. It's basically promenade shared with pedastrians. It works well so long as you keep an eye open for small random children and golf *****. Runs for miles.

Then we look at Stanwell which has red paint on the pavement with tiny, dooty little give way lines across at the end. Then you get to cross the T-junction, repeat at 50-75 yard intervals. NOT the way to make reasonable progress on a bike.

Build wide roads, separate mopeds and cyclists from both cars and pedestrians and we'll all do fine... other than when we fall off trying to corner on horse-poop.

i decided to cycle to work for three reasons.
1. i like gadgets and bought an electric bike.
2.getting a bit fat round the belly and needed some exersise
3.im tight and love the idea of no road tax etc.

its an 18 mile round trip to work with some steep hills.the electric bike takes the sting out of the hills plus i dont arrive at work sweating like a rapist.

i drive a car on rainy days.its a brave man who cycles nowadays ive nearly been killed dosens of times by mr white van man and articulated lorries passing about an inch away.im not kidding.try it.its better than base jumping.or how about some old sod half blind who just wont overtake you and holds the traffic up.i realise that if i continue that theres a fair chance i will be killed.but for now im alot fitter and prefer it to the gym. i think car drivers are jealous of anyone who dosent have to pay to commute.how would you like to pay tax on your kids bikes for playing out on the street.its about the only thing other than walking thats not part of rip off britain.plus im doing my bit to save the planet you **** heads.

I got stuck 2 cars behind some yellow jersey'ed tosser the other day, so I just planted the horn on full chat, to encourage the 2 wheeled half-wit to pull back towards the kerb, and to encourage the old bid he was holding up to pass him.

as I came alongside, I wound down the passenger window, and politely asked said ******* if he could possibly ride a bit closer to the middle of the road...

he told me to foxtrot oscar, I reciprocated, so he hoyed up a big oyster and spat at my car. So I just pulled in front, blocked his line, and slammed on, completely ******* up his pace. Then left him in a cloud of diesel smoke for good measure

Ignorant *******, they think they own the ******* road

I've not posted on here for nearly a year but I really need add a couple of things to this thread.
Firstly I am a cyclist.
I don't commute on my bike I use it to train and race on for triathlons.
I regularly end up cycling around west London and the amount of hostility I encounter is frightening.
I use cycle paths when possible but lots of them really are very badly designed and make it very difficult to hold any sort of pace.
On a good flat road I hold an average speed of about 23mph which is usually enough to keep out of most peoples way in a built up area.
I tend to hang out slightly from the gutter, firstly to stop people squeezing past and secondly to give myself somewhere to go if cars get too close.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of any of these things I really really want you to think about just one thing...
I have three children under 5 at home, just picture the scene when the police turn up to tell them their daddy is dead.
Think about.
Then next time you're late and there's a cyclist in your way just give them and extra foot, or an extra 20 seconds before you pass.
It's will make no material difference to your day and it could make an immeasurable difference to a lot of peoples lives.

This post is not intended to inflame anyone, I can assure you I shout louder than anyone at the cyclist who runs a red light, they're making it more dangerous for the rest of us.

Thank you
R

I certainly would not advocate giving a cyclist a bad time with your car. I do object however to having to share a footpath with a cyclist when I have to walk with an armcrutch or at any time really.
