Ford Capri 2.8i

Back in 1986/7 I had a 1984 "B" 2.8i special in white....it was an absolute minter.
As far as handling goes, I put Spax dampers, 1" lowering blocks and X-brace on the rear, RS2000 springs (160lb IIRC) on the front and Yokohama A008 tyres on it and I thought it was waaaaay better than the Manta GTE I had later.
A full Janspeed exhaust made a nice difference (particularly to the sound), but the head design is less than perfect due to the "siamesed" ports..... 3 cylinders, 2 ports.
One of the best mods I made.......swap the outer headlights for Cibie H4 units and then fit 150w KC Daylighter sealed beams in place of the inner headlights.......blinded every ******!!! LOL
A few good resources:

http://www.capriclub.co.uk/
I absolutely loved my Capri and was sad to sell it when I did. The prices dropped by about £1000 just after I sold mine, so looking back I was lucky.
You're tuning options are only limited by funds.......if you have plenty of money, you can do anything!!!
Have fun......try and get a 280......lovely motors!!!

This seems to be one car that does appeal to all ages, most threads get "get this instead much better" etc
Nobody has had a bad word for the good old Capri yet

The 2.8i and 280 are without doubt the most sorted capri's in every way as standard.
Suspension all round is Bilstein, LSD in later specials makes a huge difference and the 5 speed box helps a lot in cruising (although the earlier 4 speed has far better ratios).
The worst thing on the car is the brakes. I must have gone through dozens of sets of front discs by now. They warp terribly. Upgrade options are limited, ideally a set of wilwoods or similar with bigger rotors, however wheel size becomes a problem. Really you need 15" rims from a 280 brooklands but these are a bit thin on the ground now, although I have a set in my shed
Over the years I've rebuilt 2. I still have the second one which needs a bit of work again. This is also fitted with a Turbo Technics 200BHP kit. This is without doubt the only modification that offers a good return. They do come up occasionally on Ebay and transforms the cars performance, particularly in gear acceleration times. All other typical mods are very ineffective due to the siamesed exhaust ports.
If you do get one, I know a great spares dealer in the midlands, he does also on occasion have cars for sale. If you want his contact details, PM me and I'll send it over.
All in all they are a great car, look out for the rust and keep it serviced and they will go forever. Dead simple mechanical injection, easy access for everything and huge parts availability
Have fun mate

Im thinking maybe get a 2.0 to start with now, as they are much cheaper, and would be good to get used to it a bit first.
If its gonna go in a ditch then best it be a cheap one

I have a soft spot for the old girl still, but make no mistake, performance cars have come a LONG way since then!
