Focus RS price announcement - £26000
#1
Ford have (apparently) announced the price of the front-wheel-drive Focus RS will be £26000
£26000
Ford are claiming that with a 0-60 of 5.7 and 150mph+ top end it is enough to 'see off' the new WRX, and offers inrivalled performance at the price??? AT TWENTY-SIX THOUSAND POUNDS FOR A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE FORD????!!!!
VFM??? the extra £4500 will add a lot of mods to the £21500 WRX
plot well and truly lost

yeah i saw that article as well.
26k !!! they are living in a dream world !!
i know the new impreza is a bit slower than the old one and those headlights !! but its still gotta be a better car than a 26k 2 door 2 wheel drive ford !!
its gotta be a mistake. they cant seriously expect people to pay that price for the car ?
can they ? definitely lost the plot big time.

I have never understood Ford. They make boring, dull, everyday, cheap-looking cars, much like Hyundai, but they seem to think they're Audi and price accordingly. They've always been like this, thinking you should pay a premium for the Ford badge. Get real. Vauxhall (who I've always thought of as their closest competitor) don't seem to suffer this problem as much.

How much? LOL this must be a leak to test the market, followed by Ford saying no no no no it was going to be 23k all along. That way they'll all be happy with a 2k price reduction, forgettiong that its stil too expensive.
Had a chat with a knowledgable Ford employee at the motorshow, and he admitted right off they had learnt their lesson with the Puma and prices would be realistic for the RS. If they do charge 26k can't see many buyers coming along when an EVO can be had for not much more, and a scooby for less

Dream on Ford - it looks like a good car, but that price is taking the p*ss.
The whole reason that Subaru has done so well is that they managed to produce a car as good as the Impreza and sell it at a profit - a concept that Ford has yet to master. Back to the drawing board I think...

hmm, front of my Dec 2000 Car mag (Supercars you can afford) has the RS on the cover with a price of 22k.
even still thats a helluva lot for a focus. Oh and thet reckon it's 230 bhp?
go figure.
If it really is 26k then they, as we've all said, have totally lost the plot.
Let's think, new or slightly used MY00 STi for aprox 26k or a 'max power boy' ford focus? hmm, which one would I choose? hard desicion that one
I do like the alloys though!

And how exactly are they going to be putting that 230bhp onto the road through the front wheels other than "in smoke". It's bad enough in our FTO with 200bhp but with (I prsume a turbo here, thats a fair amount of torque). Kwikfit must be rubbing their hands (that's if anybody ever goes there to pay £180 a corner for SO2s)

Sorry, but the ticket price is irrelevant in value-for-money terms. Ford have pitched the RS at a market sector and at a price that they think will attract that market sector - if they offered it for 16k, they'd have the wrong people driving it. Subaru did the same with the 22B and the P1. No way are these cars vfm compared with a stock UK turbo, yet there's no shortage of buyers (no offence to 22B or P1 owners - I drool over 22Bs ). It'll be the same with the Focus RS - it will have its admirers and detractors - we've seen the converse on Scoobynet often enough.

So HunterB would you pay 26K for that car?
I've looked at the spec and (IMHO) " NO WAY I WON'T PAY, NO WAY IWON'T PAY"

Hunter your arguement works unless you take into account the blue oval badge - in other words image. I think Ford will have an uphill struggle with this.

Nope. But I wouldn't pay £31500 for a P1 or £48000 for a 22B either (did see one offered at that price). I'm on my 6th Subaru (4 bought new, 2 bought with 1 previous owner) and the last one depreciated £15000 in 23 months from new. I doubt if I'll ever buy another new car .... unless my lottery numbers come up £26000 for a Focus RS is too expensive for me but my point is that others would happily cough up £26000 or more for a Ford Fiesta if they thought it was cool.

You could be right, but I reckon Ford will have fewer unsold RS Focuses (Foci?) on their dealers' forecourts than IM have unsold P1s on theirs. There are lots of Ford lovers out there ....

as said in previous post I have a deposit down on the RS here in Italy and the price that has been quoted to me by the dealer is the equivalent of 22000 in UK money. So either the article is wrong or you guys in the UK are getting majorly ripped off (I thought 22 was already a little too steep).

If the price is £22K in Italy then I have no doubt that Ford think they can charge £26K in the UK. If you look at the recent price reductions made in the UK, it is ONLY on the popular cars and never on the top-of-the-range cars.
I agree with Hunter, Ford will have no trouble selling them.

well on my deposit receipt the 22k is written in "subjet to manufacturer finalization" but hell they'd know very well that if it was to go up by more than a few quids I'd ask for my deposit back, so it should be pretty close to the mark.
My lotus elise 111s, which I've seen in dealerships in the uk at £25k+, I've purchased here in italy at £23.5k including the 1.5k hardtop (so 22k just the car!). You guys are getting ripped off.....but then we are all getting ripped off compared to Japan.

P1 and 22B are a bit of a different case.
P1 is/was £3-4k over the cost of of its closet competitor - an STi 6. Factor in 17" wheels, warrenty, far higher residual values, and a minimum £1500 discount on a P1 and you are about even, (except climate control/folding mirrors/quick rack steering ) P1 is also the same price as an official Evo 6/Makinen.
22B is a totally different car. Fully seam welded, totally unique, and from what I am led to beleive (never driven one) completely different from a UK turbo, or STi. The £48k ones you mention are the Type UK, of which there were only 16. Ultimate limited supply.
The Focus RS is about £6k too expensive. If it does sell well at this price it will go to prove how blinded by the brand 'RS'ers are.
The thing will be a repeat of the Racing Puma fiasco - but that was only about £4k over priced.
