I've just got a MY00 Silver 5-door Turbo, and just had to write about it!

A couple of months back I was offered a new job, and so faced the prospect of changing my company car (choice = Vectra, Vectra or perhaps a Vectra ) to absolutely anything I want (aren't car allowances great?). Initially I thought about an Audi TT (I like the looks), but I didn't really want to spend that much and besides, since my wife has a Ford Puma, I have to have the practical car (or "Mummy-Daddy" car as a friend puts it). So I started to look at the A4 and Passat. But what you get for your money, especially performance, put me off. My interest then went to the Mondeo ST200 and the Vectra GSi.

Realising that I seemed to be searching, almost literally, on £ per BHP, I decided to get a new car guide and find the car with the best ratio. Of course you all know what I found! Then when I read the great reviews and saw the resale values, I thought this car needs looking at. I checked about importing - big savings but a long wait - so thought that a UK dealer might be better.

There just happens to be a Subaru dealer a few miles from where I live (fate?), so I booked a test drive. My reaction? - Doesn't look much, interior a bit cheap (but not as bad as the reviews had lead me to expect), but the drive? I want one!

Despite this, if I had to wait 6 months for one, especially at the list price, I was going to walk away . The salesman asked me if I wanted a 4-door. I told him that I needed something more practical (and besides I hate big spoilers ) so how long to get me a new 5-door? After a bit of discussion with his manager he asked if 4 weeks was OK.

Well that was 5 weeks ago, and actually 4 weeks was too quick, as I don't start my new job for another month. So I'm still driving my company car, and the Scooby is in the garage, where it will stay for the next month except for a few miles drive at the weekend to 'keep it warm'. It takes a lot of willpower to do this, but then it takes even more to run it in - it feels as if there's a rocket under the bonnet, just waiting for me to push the red button!

Well I've taken up enough space already, but I want to close by stating that I think that this is an excellent Bulletin Board, and it has made me even more pleased that I bought a Scooby . Years back when I had a full head of hair, I was a Ford Capri fanatic, (club member, went to meets & events etc.) Since spending many years in company car dulldom, I had thought that the excitement of car ownership was something you only get in your 'teens and twenties. When I look at the Scooby in the garage I realise how wrong I was!

Finally I want to ask a question (perhaps there should be a Forum for Newbies to post their ravings in?) - Where can I buy a Scooby-Doo window sticker?

Welcome to scoobydom! And an ever bigger welcome since you've got a 'wagon'!

I'm kind new to driving a scooby (though I've been on the BBS for quite a while!) as I only got my 5-door (black WRX import) two weeks ago.

As for ScoobyDoo merchandise, try Warner Brothers Studio Stores, as they have most scooby stuff, otherwise try searching on line. Also, try Wimpy as they're currently doing a scoobydoo kids meal type thing.

I've been trying to find a scoobydoo facplate for my nokia 5110 phone for ages and still have not found one.

Oh, also try Boots, as they've got a lot of scooby stuff!

Question

Do yo have to actually own a Subaru to be a member of the SIDC? I will take delivery of mine in June/July, but another thread speaks of a newly negotiated discount for insurance for SIDC members. Will I miss out, or doesn't it matter?

Expectantly

Thumbs up

I've a MY00 silver 5 door too. Welcome aboard. This bbs has an excellent database that is easily searchable(soon to be available on CD-ROM?) so make good use of it. You'll spend hours looking for such topics as running in, what oil, insurance,
what RON fuel. etc etc. After a few months you'll think 'man, this is SLOOW' and then it'll be a trip to get your new downpipe, back box, ECU etc etc.

Do you get a fuel card, if not you'll need to put half the allowance away for petrol
