People like this give Scooby drivers a bad name
I don't think an excuse 'I was breaking the speed limit to get to the hospital as my wife was due to give birth' would wash with a traffic cop. I've read loads of times in the papers, drivers like these getting prosecuted and rightly so.
Whatever the circumstances, it does not give the person the right to drive in a manner that I saw yesterday. He could have caused a terrible accident, maybe killed some innocent person, then how would have his wife felt then.
All I was pointing out that this person was drving like a lunatic, there are no excuses in my book for this type of behaviour. Speeding at 60mph in a 30mph, almost crashing into the back of my car, overtaking when not safe to do so, endangering the lives of others, causing other motorists to take action to avoid being involved in a crash etc etc.
As I said in my first post, the moderators can feel free to edit the registration plate BUT I felt the need to publish it because if he reads this thread and modifies his driving behaviour then at least some good will have come out of it.
I'm still deciding on whether to ask the police to take the matter further.....but no doubt he will probably do that for me, if he drives like that all the time.........

dont get me wrong im not sticking up for the individual in the example you gave.
I am however against someone deciding what is poor/dangerous driving and putting there reg number on here without knowing the full events.

I agree we don't want anyone putting up reg plates where they 'think' someone has been driving dangerously but in the events I saw yesterday, he WAS driving dangerously, not just once BUT several times over a period of about 10 mins.
He wasn't rushing anywhere, otherwise he would not have turned off the by pass to go through a small town. NO HE WAS SHOWING OFF PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Driving at excessive speeds through 30mph zones, weaving in and out of traffic, dangerous overtaking. My wife said at the time that she could tell from the look on his face that he was enjoying what he was doing, he was driving dangerously just for the sheer thrill of it! To me he was acting so irresponsible and a danger to other road users, he needed to be named and shamed.
He would have lost his licence if he had been seen by a traffic cop and if he is reading this thread, then I hope he is man enough to admit to his dangerous driving.

Hope this isn't the start of a new type of thread on here. IMHO no one has the right to post any identifying details on a public forum without their consent. I'm sure that on many occassions someone could possibly have viewed our driving as inappropriate (even if we didn't). Have to add that your account does show this guy to be a complete @rse but "naming and shaming" isn't the way to go.
This reminds me of threads that popped up a while back with the posting of unmarked Police cars Reg no's. It was claimed at the time that we might ruin an opp as the Crims might be lurking on this site !!
There needs to be a balance. IMHO reg no's of unmarked Police vehicles is fine but not private individuals. Im surprised the Moderators havent edited the thread !!!

Ok guys 2 Questions would we be sitting here being judge a jury IF this guy had knocked down one of your children or your wife????.
Think about it.
And the other thing don'nt give me this cobberlers about rushing to the hospital or any other crap like that.
When you have been as close to death as I have by someone like this then parahps you might see it from a different angle people like him need to be stopped.
Colin

So you've never in your life drove a bit ambishious??? you angel
I am not condoneing this drivers attitude towards driving, he does need a slap and it was worth mentioning, but imho the reg serves no purpose.
Ok, so another speculative situation he's had the car stolen and the police got it back for him, after getting over the trauma of having his car stolen he's sat at the lights window down relaxing when someone who read this fellas post comes up draggs him out of the car and beats him within a inch of his life cos he wants to shame the driver for what he read on the net. It wassent him driving, he knew nothing of this website to point out it wassent him, he knew nothing of this event.
He then was in intensive care for a month all because he had his car stolen and some bright spark to add injury to insult posted his reg on a public bbs and a idiot sore it.
We can sit here all day speculating about different situations, and theres no need to go off on one, as me and a few others have said this guy was a tit and should be removed from our roads by the sounds of this fellows testiment but posting of the reg is what i don't agree with.
So chill.

Ive got to condone anyone for trying to overtake several cars on the brow of a hill and to think that if he didnt get past the truck would have killed the driver and half the traffic in the other direction
It reminds me of an incident i saw on the snake pass
I was in traffic behind around 9 cars, its a narrow road with a right hand corner at the bottom, the idiot behind me in a car with less than 1/2 the power of my car (audi a4 tdi) overtook me and most of the other traffic, only pulling in and forcing a driver of an MY00 DBM sport to brake he needed to do this (the A4 idiot) as there was a car headed towards him and god knows how he missed it but this type of person doesnt give a damn about other road users, just about getting to where they are going 2 mins quicker and if he would have crashed then there would have been a serious incident involving several cars
Even i dont overtake more than a couple of cars at a time and only when its safe to do so (ie i can see the road and know ive got time to make a manouver!)
But for the driver in the red subaru doing 60 in a 30, stopping distance of around 50mtrs compared to about 9....
IDIOT!!

Tony,
I assume you meant "condemn" (just in case someone fires off a reply thinking you *do* condone that sort of driving)
I posted a reply to this in the other double posted thread originally saying that we should have a "Name and Shame" forum. However, a post by Mo made me rethink and I think this type of forum could well have unintended side effects that make it a bad idea. The guy at the top of this thread was obviously driving so badly that I think - in this case - the thread should stay (it appears the car wasn't stolen, and if it was lent out, the owner has some responsibilty to the type of person it is lent to).
The best course of action in future, IMO, is to post most of the number plate so the person concerned (if they even use Scoobynet) can be ashamed (I hope) but without the unwanted side effects that may occur.

This guy does sound like a ******** but there are still important reasons for not publishing his full registration.
With all respect to Fast Blue Scooby, it's unlikely the police would attempt a prosecution without corroboration from another party. The accused person would probably claim it was a grudge or exaggerated and the court may not even be able to take his previous (probably poor) driving record into account. Even if other witnesses come forward, if the accused is aware of this post he could probably use it quite effectively to claim they had been biased or that he was being victimised.
I also can't see that any benefits of posting his plate would have been diminished by partially disguising it.
If I saw a description of my car with the registration Yxxx PHL, I’d know it was probably mine, whether it had been stolen, loaned or whether I’d been driving like a lunatic. If it had been stolen or loaned out I'd try to contact the person who posted for clarification, and if I’d have been driving like an idiot I’d be sure it was me anyway, and (hopefully) be ashamed. Not posting the full registration would perhaps have put enough doubt in some public spirited person’s mind to stop them trying to take matters into their own hands. This guy is obviously a nutter, but there’s lots of them about (some might even be reading this
) and if someone does decide to play vigilante and end up getting hurt or even perhaps hurt an innocent person, how is everyone involved going to feel?
I’m sorry to go on, but this is just wrong. There should be a “no number plate” policy on here (or any board I guess). What if someone posts your registration because he didn’t like something you did (or even makes something up), or even follows you home & then posts your address?
IMHO there is no valid reason for making personal information like this public.

I dont think this forum is really the place to play judge and jury and name and shame people.
I dont agree with stupid driving - but I bet all of the members on this forum drive in such a way from time to time that other bystanders and sections of the public would consider dangerous or foolhardy (eg ever exceeding the speed limit) If not then you are either fibbers or might as well travel by bus.
Its all a question of proportionality and how far you take it. You could for example suggest that as members of this forum we are all somewhat guilty as we perpetuate an unhealthy interest in high performance cars.
Personally I say let it go. Thee driver you refer to might be a plonker but let the authorities deal with him.

I think I've seen a similar car driving around where I work. It was a young lad with an 'N' reg Prodrive car which was Red. I carn't remmember him having blonde hair though.
I have a Red 'R' plate scoob and I agree that speeding in a 30mpg limit is a joke!!!!
I haven't got kids yet, but how could somebody live with killing a kid in a 30mph zone, if they are speeding!! (Some people think they own the road!).
Cheers

"Anyone wanting to do a ringer on a red scooby now has a valid registration number. Ditto for anyone wanting to do armed robbery etc."
cant see someone sitting at their pc just in case a reg pops up they could use, wouldnt they just sit by a road for 5 mins- im sure there are plaenty of reg plates there.

name their plates I say.
had some joker in a scoob doing the same coming towards me on a trip to Cornwall. plenty of traffic on his side of the road. I come round a bend and this a--hole is on my side of the road with not really any spaces to pull back into his side. Luckily for this d1ckhead someone could see he was gonna cause a crash and dropped back to let him in. VERY nice of him because most people's reaction could well be 'get lost m8 I'm not letting you in when you drive like that'. Makes you SOOOOO mad. Just want to throttle the idiots. Whats the point. All they gain is 10 metres of road. He's still in traffic and its still endless in front of him.
I dount many drivers drive like this regardless of the make of their car. Sure most fast car owners will overtake but not in scenarios where there is just a constant stream of traffic ahead of them. Whats the point? You gain so little and endanger innocent lives. Only the n0bs drive like this. Name em. If its their car and they were driving they will be shamed. If someone else was driving they would like to know.
Like Tiggs says, its not really very hard to get hold of a valid Scooby plate!

I can't believe all the people on here rushing to defend the rights of the pratt in the Red scoob reg no N339 FWA and his plate - privacy. It's a non-issue.
When he's killed your wife and daughter, perhaps you'll offer him a lift home if his car is undriveable and make him some horlicks so he feels better?
When he's killed your wife and daughter, perhaps you'll offer him a lift home if his car is undriveable and make him some horlicks so he feels better?
So you have all judged him and found him guilty in his absence. What sentence will you give him? Perhaps one of you red Scooby owners will pop this plate N339 FWA on your car and flash by a few cameras.

I thought the policy of this board was not to print plate registrations. We have no right to condemn and slag down any driver on one persons word against another. We are not the judges and have not got all the evidence in front of us.

Oh dear, shall I just compare someone to Hitler now and end the argument
?
Again, with all due respect to Fast Blue Scooby - please don't take the following personally, I'm sure you're being straight on this and are doing it with the best of intentions.
Anyone with a grudge could make a post like this. I might see someone driving along and take a dislike to them - it could be you, so is it OK for me to post your registration? What if this is a hire car or company pool car (Unlikely I know)? If anyone sees this car, what are they going to do - flash their lights, point, shake their fists or maybe something a bit stronger?
The right place for this complaint is to the police (whether they do anything about it or not), which I believe has been done. End of story.

I was driving along that road just last night...
I know of one red scoob with gold multi-spokes (like a BBS split rim). If its the one I'm thinking of, its an import STi and I think I know where he lives. (don't know the guy)

Valid points to both sides however still fail to see what purpose his reg plate being shown on a public bbs hopes to achive??
Tell you what why stop there post his address, we can all go round and kick the crap outa him.

I started off thinking 'yep, name and shame the to$$er. 'No consideration or protection afforded to the reckless'. 'I personally have nothing to fear from this policy' - besides I'd be going too quick for them to jot my number down
However since this forum is too open to abuse and could possibly assist criminal activity or malicious postings, we should have a policy of restricting any full number plate display here.
Mr Blue Scoob's intentions are noble and right, and he's done the right thing, and that was contact the cops. Any visit and/or prosecution by them will hopefully be by far the most effective outcome.

Diesel,
I agree with you but know that what'll happen is absolutely F**k all - the cops will do nothing about it until it's too late and the guy has caused (sooner or later) a huge accident
Having said that, what more can you do other than report the guy...???
