Agreed
,point is you wouldnt have thought them even remotely comparable
combe is 2 miles round and were talking a few seconds difference ,folks say the scooby is a peformance bargain ,you can get a 2 year old zs 180 for £5-6k,bang per buck that takes some beating.

BUMP!!!!!!!!
well then, after finding this little gem of a thread
after getting rid of my 390lbft classic for one of these i can offer some advice
they drive quite nice, infact i was actualy really suprised on the 30mile trip home back up the A1, i kept creeping up to 90 without realising as it was so smooth and quiet, it seams to go around the corners pretty good as well for a stock car, but they are slow as ****
i already miss the turbo kick, not being able to spin the wheels under power, and power sliding around my favourite roundabout on the way home from work

They do go well but owners think they are 911s.
When I had my R32 Golf (chipped slightly to 260bhp) a few ZS owners were convinced they were a lot faster. They are not.
Still not bad cars though.

yes
its OK
if i keep it for a few years, i will be giving it a lick of paint in the summer as its not up to my standard, but apart from that, it drives fine, its only done 46k miles, and is generally a hell of a lot smoother to drive down the motorway on the way home from work then the scoob, saying that, it feels slow as ****
i can get in it, and just drive it instead of wondering if the headgaskets are going to blow, the gearbox is going to pop, the fuels a bit off so its going to det, etc etc etc
i even got a refund from my insurance company when the policy was swapped over
i might put it on my mates rolling road just to make sure its putting out full power, but i suspect its just me being used to something much faster?
its quite strange how little these cars are now worth when you consider what you get for your money, chassis seams quite sweet to be honest!

What sort of power are the ZS V6 models?? I know this is a long thread and the answer is probably in there somewhere... but I just cant be bothered trawling through the replies.
Also, do the ZS Diesels use the BMW 2.0d or the Rover 2.0d engine??
Cheers,
Grant

i thought the V6 engine was supposed to be the Honda one, with no real reliability problems?
spent some time trawling through some forums (christ the rover forums are dull, must resist trolling them lol)
cant really find any common ZS 180 problems apart from the door handles breaking, and sometimes the drivers window does not come all the way down.

The engine is the KV6 isnt it.. a Rover unit?? The Honda 2.7 V6 used in the old 827i and Honda Legend is a different lump altogether.
As far as I understand though, the Rover 2.5 V6 is actually a pretty reliable unit. Seem to remember the motoring press praising the ZS180's handling quite highly, and with prices being so low, surely it could make a reasonable track-car once stripped/prep'd with 180bhp and a fair wave of torque to whisk you along too.

Grant

i think it is a KV6 yeah, i only thought it was Honda due to a mate popping over yesterday for a look at it and he told me it was a Honda lump
i was told this morning that you really need to rev them a bit to get at the power, so when i pop out later i will try the thing over 4.5k and see what happens (probably blow the head gasket pmsl)

had a little look at the car yesterday as one of the headlamps beams was wobbling about late at night, found that the headlamp bulb was not clipped in
removed the bulbs and fitted some osram nightbreakers and reset the beam pattern against a wall.then i took it for a "proper" blast yesterday along my local favorite 60mph twistathon country road and gave it some revs to see what the deal was, you can feel the VIS system giving various little boosts to the power delivery, so i can assume they are all working well.
it does seam to have a fairly decent surge of power once its up over 4k revs.
think i warped the front discs by the time i reached the end of the road

i am actually VERY impressed with the chassis for a FWD car, i am glad i never got rid of the scoob for an audi derv now! i have done 40 miles in the car and the petrol gauge has not even moved yet

i was getting 200 miles to a tank in the bloody scooby!

Rover used to use Honda engines and jointly develop models.
214/216 vs Honda Concerto etc. 800 series vs Honda Legend etc.
216GTI had a Honda non-VTEC twin-cam.
827 had a Honda 24V V6.
Though the 827 wasn't a great car, the engine was a great engine and found its way into some very interesting places as the Legends and 827s rusted or got bashed away underneath them.
Rover 400/45/MG ZS uses a K series engine, the KV6.
