Default Loving my new S4 so much!

Just after xmas i decided to sell my 95wrx scooby (approx 300bhp) and buy a "quick" practical car as my missus was pregnant. Now i could have just bought a scooby wagon but ive had 2 in the past (1 with 424bhp uk classic & an sti v3) so thought i'd go for something different. I decided i'd look at Audi b5 s4 avant's as they were 265bhp out of the box, reasonable size boots and 4wd so would keep the missus happy and still be fun for me to drive.
I knew the guys at a local VAG tuning specialist (MRC in Banbury) so asked for some pointers, went out in a few and decided i wanted one as they felt so well built, comfortable to drive and so torquey!
I sold the scoob and found a 99 s4 avant in lincs, the car had a really good spec and the guys down at MRC knew the car well, in fact the owner had spent over 5.5k with them on new ko4 turbo's, clutch etc in july 08. I got the car for £6k and loved everything about it. The car had approx 360bhp when i picked it up but was told with a few choice mods could see more power.
I took the car in last week to have new de-cat downpipes, bigger injectors and a custom remap done and i absolutely love the feel of the car. Im told it should be putting out approx 430-440bhp/ 460lbft torque.
For a big estate it feels stupidly fast, the only problem is that i had convinced the missus it was gonna be a practical family car

Lovely looking motor, had a drag against a new S4 and it was fairly close till I changed to 3rd. This would show me a clean pair of heals though

I had '99 A4 1.8T Quattro. The boot is big enough, but rear passenger space is poor, expecially if you're 6ft as have the front seats far back. Choose the rear facing child seats carefully as I found for us it was a real squeeze. When the child gets to group 2 front facing seats, there will be little leg room for the little one. Got another car in the end. Just speaking from experiance....

Love mine (Liking yours too! ) - I'm moving on now. All the plus points you've said are true. Probably the best car I've had. Certainly showed the Scoobs a thing or too.

Selling mine now if anybody's interested New price too!!!

Very nice!! Know someone with a B5 A4 and he also loves it to bits! IMO the B5 shape still looks great as well.

Only thing is I have seen a few B5 A4's now with rust at the bottom of the doors - guess they're 10years old or so, but you'd still think you'd get rust-free motoring for longer with an Audi!

Nice! I bought one before I got my wagon. Fecking thing broke down on the way back from picking it up from the seller! Don't think it had it's water pump changed engine out job just for part that costs £20...... Got my money back thankfully. If they haven't had the turbos done and a good history plenty £££'s can be smoked real easy. Defo my next motor.

(If it was me I would lose the mudflaps )

Really nice deal with the turbos and leaks sorted out already!

Is it on stock suspension? I enjoyed the B5 RS4 I took out except for the suspension.

My S4 is a B7 with the 4.2 V8. Very lovely motor that can rock up to silly speeds with nothing more than a rumble. But it has nothing like the in-gear pace of my classic Scoob, a 2.5 with 370lbs-ft. Nothing like it at all.

It handles well for the boat it is and can be quite fun. The steering is ridiculously low geared and needs armfuls of lock for the slightest curve, which gives the impression of more understeer than it actually has. I'll fit the stiffer ARB from the RS4 to help get the back working a bit - same trick worked really well on the Scoob.

I'm also seriously thinking about NOS for a bit of straight line lunacy, if I can find an insurance company that doesn't go ape at the very mention. Anybody got any experience of NOS in a road car? Am I mad?

When I get round to it, I'll also be visiting MRC, mainly to get the rev limit raised on the Tiptronic. I'll get a remap at the same time, but am not expected more than an extra 20-ish bhp without going Milltech etc. There should be a useful lump of extra mid range though

Very nice car agreed, but only cheap to buy. To keep em looking like that, they're expensive to run....

Like most £50K cars

Give doug at MRC a call, he will tell you what power to expect from the remap, my remap made loads of difference and the boys down there really know their stuff.
