why do all cossies have 300+bhp?
#33
Martin,
I think you should point out that on the day mine was running the ACT's were way too high due to the inclement weather. Running 50°C ACTs which you know causes 12° of ignition retard on my car - hence the lowly 395bhp @ wheels. But at least I get that ALL the time and not just for the duration of the gas - yours only made 290bhp @ wheels without it on the same day mine made 395....
Also doesn't the NOS have a cooling effect on the ACTs allowing more ignition advance?
Best regards
Mike R

wtf you on about - is the timing even ajustable on a cossie cos mine wasnt advanced up LOL
Also car ran 310hp with out nos as you well know trouble causer - and that was at 90 degrees as it was on the old roller setup with the tiny fan trying to cool far too much!
way back in you cage birdy

Bren,
380bhp ATW's is pretty damn good, wish I could get that with a set of "greens", and £150 chip
260bhp ATW's aren't the problem. It's keeping up with the likes of Mike R on the straights...
Did the RSOC day at Siverstone last year, had a fantastic time, missed Donno this year
Looking forward to the next one, and a little more power
Mark.

It will be interesting to see if yours can keep up with my 400+bhp baby by then!!!
Some how though I think I know what the answer to that one will be!!!!

sorry, i think i am being misunderstood slightly. i mean you can get a base tuning package only that will increase the out put to 300 bhp for the £580(parts only). as i tune my own cars i tend to buy in the parts and fit them/ set them up my self initialy.any further refinements i have the vehicle on the r/r.
as it happens the cossie has now got more mods over the ones i listed to prolong reliability. mods are now
dark green injectors
3 bar map sensor
hybrid turbo
-31 actuator set at 24 psi
wireringed block
group a head gasket
group a breather system with seperator and catch tank
AGPR-601P spark plugs
chip
swirl pot
s/s exhaust
sorry if i was misunderstood.

Martin,
Yeah right and as I said to you, had the ACT's been lower, then mine would have made well over 400bhp at the wheels, but on the day it didn't due to the high temps. Therefore if I have to accept that, then YOU have to accept that yours only made 290 in the sme circumstances...
Ask Alan what 12° of ignition retard does to a T4 equipped Cossie and then you'll know how much mine would have made - 430? As it made 320bhp at wheels on only 1.3 bar when the ACTs were spot on....
Best regards

Shaun,
I know exactly what's going to happen.....
Please can you let me know when you've "actually" got 400bhp +, because I'm looking for a new "starter motor"
Didn't that candy red Escort Cossie at Donno, supposedly have 400bhp + (when you came out with me) Don't seem to remember it going past me, even though my brakes were totally knackered !!!
Mark.

Mark,
I know who will be laughing mate!!!!....and it won't be you!
I am not like certain people on this board, when I say i'm going to do something and for some reason I don't. It was meant to of been booked in by now, but considering I have been off work sick for 8 weeks (and counting), certain things I have been unable to sort.
Anyways............
I think I have a slight advantage over you mate!!! I have already been in Craigs car in it's present form against a mutual friend who has one of these 400bhp Escorts..........I won't tell you what the results have been so far!!!!!!
Oh...and I won't tell you what the actual output of Craigs car is either, cause that will shut a few people up in arguments like this!!!

Shaun,
Never doubted your intentions to mod your car to 400bhp. I'm trying to work out how you're going to show it off though !!!
You won't go on the track, Pods fine if you don't like corners, I guess. I suppose you could walk around with your dyno figures, but that's unlikely to wipe the smile off my face
Anyway, your assuming I haven't done any more mods to my car !!!
I finally gave in, and fitted some Cossie bits , just so that I could keep in front of you guys

Desperate to see who comes off best here.
On another note, it is really nice to see some genuine tuning banter related to cosworths that doesnt come from scoobs v cossies type posts.
please keep posting here.

I'm desperate to acknowledge that this ISN'T a showdown thread!!!!
Mark,
Seriously mate, the main reason why I have only once been round Donnington is because the car isn't up to the job. I can't see the point in running a road car on track, when it's not prepped to do so. Hence why the engine conversion will include, uprated oil pump, WRC tri-metallic head gasket, breather system, paddle clutch, uprated suspension and bushes, big winged sump. The only other thing that WILL hold me back from track action, for the first half of next year will be transmission. The problem is that there isn't a reasonably costed box that can take this kind of power reliably. The standard WILL stay in until one has been sourced, but this even negates me from doing 0-60's and 1/4 mile sprints.....let alone any track action. So we will have to wait and see.
But the ENGINE DYNO GRAPH will look cool!!!!!
Craig,
Mr Lanky to you!!!!
I think you know who's Escort we are on about!!!!!! And unless you want me to tell everyone in the general forum what power your car REALLY has.......SHUT IT!!!!!

Shaun,
I hope tat craigs car has pathetic power. So what, 0-60 in sub 3.7 and 0-100 in sub 9.5 is phenominal. the lower the power the better surely?
Take it to extremes. what is the 0-100 of a chieftain tank? because they have thousands of horsepower adn lbft too.

Mark,
MY car WILL be on track.........even if it means I have to muller a gearbox. If that what it takes to prove to you the REAL POWER.........
Adam,
Yeah but I THINK they weigh, just a little bit more!!!

Shaun,
This will actually be very funny. i will kick your *** at Donno, even at low boost and you know it - it is very very very similar in performance to a 400hp Cossies that it's not worth talking about - ask Bondy, Dingy, the 3 "400hp" Cossies that were at donno last time etc etc.
You're gonna be sorry Lanky Jnr

"what is the difference between a t34 and a t34 for a 2wd sapp"
I take it the first T34 you mean is the standard Escort T34 (also known as a T35)
The difference is the T34 for the sapph is a hybrid, a combination of the Escort T34 compressor housing and wheel, and Sierra 2WD T3 exhaust housing. The higher spec has a .63 outlet instead of a .48 like mine, the .63 capable of over 400bhp but with it comes more lag

got a T34 hybrid on a 4x4 here with a .48 a/r turbine housing (std T3) and a .63 a/r compressor housing. The spool up time is slightly quicker than the standard T3 (.48 a/r turbine and .42 a/r compressor).
