Have been using Tesco 99 ron for a few weeks now in my '03 Impreza with PPP and have had no problems whatsoever and a healthier bank balance !!.
I DO however run a full tank of Optimax on every 4th tank of fuel just purely for the better cleaning properties of the Shell fuel .

Mark.

Thanks for all the comments, I'm gonna start to use it on a regular basis. If I find any adverse effects, I'll share my findings here

Cheers all

Does Anyone know if they plan to start selling it up here in Scotland?? Or is it here already?

Our car is mapped for Optimax and we put a tank of Tescos in

It drank it faster then an alcoholic

Got a lot less mileage from it compared to Optimax, but it did provide more and louder pops and bangs.

We'll see tomorrow what the difference is
Car was mapped by Andy Forrest today with Tesco 99 only in the tank. He said he was able to get another couple of degrees on the timing over the Optimax settings.

Filled up at Coventry Extra @ 91.9p/Ltr. Don't know what Optimax prices are these days but it has to be a few pence more plus a saving of £3 odd for o/b.

Thanks Andy and hope your journey back was OK

My MY03 WRX PPP runs well on Tesco 99, pulls better through the gears and for some reason sounds better (louder) too

I intend to fill with a tank of Optimax every 3 or 4 fillups, but can recommend you try it and see if it suits your car.

Don't forget the Optimax pluspoints, which gives 1p per litre off the pump price, or ferrari goodies

But the quoted RON value is a minimum so Optimax could be similar to Tesco99. I didn't think that Shell had definitively said what RON Optimax is?

And that is exactly the problem! Shell say about 98.5ron but as it varies, they can't put a definitive figure on it. One week it may be 99 and the next it may be 97ron. At least you are guaranteed to be getting at least 99ron at all times with Tescos

I've had second-hand reports that Paul Blamire likes Tesco 99RON as well, but I've not been able to confirm it yet.

I have a Tesco's and a Shell station both very near .....

In my MY05 WRX PPP I have tried both Optimax and now Tesco's 99 Ron fuel.

My car definitely prefers the Tesco stuff .....

I have used 3-4 tanks and then swapped to the other fuel twice now. It may be down to the weather / air temperature but having tried both twice I can't help thinking my Scoob does go better at higher revs with the 99 Ron stuff .....

Like everyone else here just my opinion FWIW ....

Tesco's 99 is onyl 1p cheaper per litre than Optimax in Sevenoaks, so really, what is the point.

As far as I'm aware Shell quote Optimax at "at least 98", so I'm really not expecting any sort of power/economy increase.

Scoobies in Tesco garages really doesn't scan right

I was thinking about having an Apexi unit mapped on Tesco 99ron but
as I use my car for holidays etc, and cover a few miles I'm going to leave
it, untill it's more readily available.

Depends whether or not you fill up for street cred and Ferrari merchandise or economy and value. For the few minutes it takes to fill, I'll go with cheap
