Depends how thick the clear coat is - in normal practace you take readings with a PTG but I dont have one yet as there £££ but you just take your time - mine only has very light marring so only a very very light polish will be needed which should only remove a couple of microns of Clearcoat the main thing is the other non abrasive polishes I will be using which only bring out the gloss/colour of the paint then wack on a sealent x 2 coats and then finally the crem de la crem my new £50 wax x 2 coats which =
and a nice 6 months of protection
also most cars paint are full of swirls/scratches so a main abrasive polish is needed then once a year you just top it up with a least abrasive polish you can
