Justin how much and what would I need to be able to do detailing myself? I'm only thinking as I could save myself having to get this fella out every 6 months or so and instead do it myself as well as the wife's, also how long does it take to get up to a decent standard and could I then do mine in a day?

Had an issue with my car last week where it was struggling to pick up at 2 k in 3rd 4th 5th and 6 th, it would feel like. Flat spot and then take off like a rocket, looked on here and basically **** myself as everyone was saying piston ring failure. Spoke to bob Rawle and he said to get compression checks, luckily it came back ok but the garage also changed my plugs and oil. They also did a ecu reset. When I bought it the garage put 40 quid in it and they used bp ultimate. It seems like its that fuel and the scoobys hates it according to bob, luckily car is fooking awesome again as it looks like my vpower an the reset and new plugs have sorted it, twitchy bum time though haha

youve a choice of a few polishers the kestral das 6 or the meguires g220 both are the same as my porta cable apart from they plug straight in instead of using a 240V converter
now you can buy a kit with your polisher choise so your more of less good to go

scooby paint is intermediate in hardness I would say
but for solid setup advise just ring polished bliss up hes very helpful
When I was in America in tampa I actually bought all my gear from his actual supplier over there - they actually thought I was him lol
all you would need ontop is a claybar plus your choise of LSP (last step product ) wax/sealant etc and a load of microfiber cloths
its easy to polish you just take your time and follow some online guides/videos
Its German paint thats a nightmare or if the paint is so called sticky the polish wont breakdown correctly.
Oh also after youve got your car mint it shouldnt need doint in as much detail for a good 2 years as as long as you wash and dry it correctly it wont pick up marks you simply top up your wax every few months
If you was to look at mine under a halogen ive very tiny drying marks which would polish out with a very very low cut polish 2/10 cut
Could do with doing it really as its been over 3 years since ive done mine
Dont forget to seal your wheels too but we will cross that bridge when your ready to progress

Bloody hell mate it's a mine field haha. I'll look into the polisher first and then give pb a bell and get a kit off him, as you say though I'll only need to top up every few months but I can probably buy all the gear for the price I'll pay for him for one day so I can then do my own plus the wife's Lexus as an when

So where do I start first justin? As you know I'm getting it done properly this month so I'm in no rush to get everything, is the porta the first thing to get? Then call pb and get a kit off him? How often should I do a polish?

if your having it done then theres no need for the porta cable for a good year or 2 depending on how many marks you put back into your laquer
all you have to do is maintain your finish after that bloke has polished it im guessing he will advise you as not sure what wax etc hes putting on so just top it up every 2 months easy really by hand

lol if you did you wouldnt have much paint left
just wash and dry your car correctly and the finish will last
stay well clear of hand wash places

Brilliant then. I thought you had to use a porta to apply it each time. So is it just a case of every so many months doing a deep clean an re-applying the products?
I don't go nowhere near those hand car washes and haven't done for years. I do need to buy all new cleaning gear though and sort out proper storage for it all so its not getting sh1tted up when not in use

When I first got my car I got 22 mpg on the 1st tank. Then I had the issues with the hesitancy so had the little service an ecu reset I then got 25mpg. The last tank I've just got 24mpg. That's fookin brilliant if you ask me. Well happy with that

Haha. Ain't had it done yet dave. I called the fella you got yours done by but he wanted about 480 to do it, the fella I've got is doing it for 380' getting it done in a few weeks
blackfire stuff is good
I got a kit from polished bliss when I had my evo, never bothered with a polisher though as the previous owner was a cleaning freak, like Justin says once it is in a good condition, then it is just maintenance. Some good vids (or there used to be) on the polishedbliss site.
Also if you look on the lancer forum, there is a company called pwpro who usually have threads up showing before and after etc

my st failed its mot the other day, thought it would anyway but was surprised that it was just one item which was corroded rear brake pipes. apparently quite common on the mk3. Thought it would be a nice cheap fix (about £12 for pipes made up) but I attempted it at the weekend and couldnt get the exisitng pipes off. Was cheesed off that I couldnt do it so booked in to be done on friday and then the retest.
