New RS4 test drive - first impressions
Porsche were fine with me, I look like a chav, turned up in my hat, my M3 CSL was away for a service so I was in a ford Ka!

No problems, and took out an 04 plate turbo for a test drive. Wise move for him as he has now sold me 3 cars in 6 months

Very good service everytime I go in there, and they gave me 2 tickets to the Carrera Cup

[QUOTE=john banks]I agree, but when you look a bit young
some car salespeople make you feel like a chancer.
Sorry that came out wrong! Didn't mean it the way it sounded.
Anyway rang up 20 Audi garages and no RS4 saloons available until 2007! Audi seems to be going back to the old days of 'limited' runs

It didn't sound that way don't worry, you know I'm as bold as a church mouse

The UK list is £49,980 and most cars/owners seem be adding the following ;
Technology pack (DVD navigation/CD changer and adaptive lights) @ £2,295 plus heated seats @ £200 and the Tracker unit of choice.
So most cars are listing at £53k or so on the road. I do agree that if people are speccing the RS4 to c. £55k then it makes far more sense to spend another £5-7k and get the M5 - which is a vastly quicker, more accomodating car all round.
Is it worth £50+k ? I think only an individual can answer that one after a bit of time in the car Steve...but the market will - I think - see it in the Saloon form as an expensive package when the used cars hit the market 3-6 months post launch....as a used car I see them at £40-42k by the end of the year

I pity the misinformed buyer who pays £60k for that and then finds out that 12 months from now it's worth £38k or so...
You can get a RS4 now drive it for a year and probably still sell it for a profit. As for the M5 being vastly quicker thats poppy **** because the RS4 if faster than the M5 and M6 around the nurburgring by quite a large margin.
Anyway the Audi R8 AKA Lemans Concept will be released next year for about 60k and that should be a stunner to drive. Will have the RS4 engine at entry level and will be using a modified gallardo chassis or a new chassis which the lamborghini muira will also use if theyre gonna build it.

Not my quote on the M5 performance, but from someone who's driven both.
Audi dealer have offered -£9K guaranteed buyback after a few months. Who is going to guarantee no depreciation? Otherwise it is just an opinion that may be horribly wrong.

It is worth removing the rose tinted spectacles AudiLover - if all these wonderful models are coming out soon, the present RS4 will hardly be depreciation proof.
I bet the bottom will fall out of the market after not long like it does to most £50k cars.

RS cars are extremely limited production. They are made by the quattro sport division in a little factory somewhere in germany partailly handbuilt. Therefore depreciation like with all audi rs's should be very good. Even normal audi models depreciate less than their BMW counterparts these days according to a article ive read.
Nice 3 year old RS6s have lost more than 50% though.
Old RS4 is hanging on better I think.
Number being produced of B7 RS4 is debated:

The demand can't be that great when people say they can find cancelled orders at list price, now.
I'd rather assume pessimistic/realistic in terms of depreciation. How many people do you know that have a pleasant surprise when they get a trade in price? If you are financing it, it could be a really nasty shock.
This waiting list/limited availability/Sunday Times speculator business seems a big front to drum up interest. Edinburgh Audi were complete arrogant ***** when I spoke to them. I guess they think that would make me so grateful when they deign to find a cancelled order
Bollox to them.
If I really believed the low/no depreciation story I'd be out looking for one even if it was crap and I couldn't have a test drive. It would be too good a deal to be true.

Interesting read. I think i read into the hype a bit too much. The B7 audi wont be around for much longer only about another 2 years so who knows. I think they will sale a fair amount of them this time round. Id sure like to see more audi rs4's on the road like M3's.
I hope they do depreciate a fair bit so i can buy one, one day.

Old man picked his up yesterday
Looks the dogs danglies.
As stated before, an Evo is probably quicker, and at £50k plus extra's it is rather expensive, but, what a quality item. Nothing else gets anywhere near it for speed with quality. The whole car just feels soo right. Makes sitting in my MY05 STI feel like sitting in a airfix kit.

The rs4 is undisputedly a great car however theres lots of competition out there and in reality the number of buyers willing to spend that amount of money is quite small. The majority of people want a larger family sized diesel in this market place. When the new m3 comes out I reckon the rs4 will take a knock just as all cars do. I'll be there in 2 years time with money ready to px
