New RS4 test drive - first impressions

Yes, all stock as tested by Evo mag. The Evo IX, B7 RS4 and 997 C4 were tested back to back by the same test team, traces overlaid etc. Evo - 84.55s, 911 - 85.75, RS4 - 88.60 (M3 CS was 89.80s).
Commentary on the laps:
"Audi pulls like a train along the straights, but can't carry nearly as much speed as the other pair at turn in. Also loses time throguh understeer at mid-way direction change in Palmer Curves. Porsche matches Audi's straight line poke, turning in with a shade more tenacity and resists understeer better. Evo and Porsche are evenly matched for most of the lap, but the Mitsubishi monsters both the Germans through the highest speed corners, most notably Tower, where it steals its advantage over the snappily oversteering Porsche."
Peak speed reached by the RS4 was 103.1mph, Evo was 107.3, C4 108.2.

Yes. 997 was 88.85, 997 S Sport was 84.60, 996TT was 86.00, STi 86.10.
Track times are not everything of course, but still interesting, but this lot were all probably done on different days.

Just ordered one last week for winter delivery. Just managed to get one before they have pretty much sold their two year quota!
Got it in this stunning colour

I have owned all sorts of turbo, supercharged and na cars and this blows them all out of the water.
A complete drivers car and one that will not be complete throw away money (good residuals)

The Audi is a completely different beast to the cars that it has been tested against and on the track as they say can't be compared. The RS4 has been designed for the road and as such has been setup that way. All you is to look at the way that the DRC works offering much more stability and greater ride.
me and my dad just had a test drive in the rs4 and it is a truly amazing car, without doubt the best thing audis produced in many years.
we had it for an hour and a half and just didnt want to stop driving it, it just smooths out roads so well and puts its power down so cleanly on any surface,we were giving large amounts of throttle on single track damp roads and it dealt with them superbly whilst still giving loads of feedback.
if john banks is still looking for a test drive then i believe camerons in perth have a demo,if not highland audi in inverness are very accomadating- they even have their own private plate on their demo!

Looks fab!
Nice - got my test drive next week
According to the dealer, all RS4s are now on a 12 month waiting list (including the not-yet-released Avant)
Strangely enough, found it easier to get a test drive in the RS, than I could when I bought my bl00dy Scoob

Just as an update.
Evo mag this month. RS4 beats the 997s to 60 and 100mph. It beats the Evo FQ340 to 100mph. It also beats the M6 for top speed!!
Hence, I don't understand JBs post above that says the standard 997 matches the RS4 for straight line grunt

Looks like the 911 and RS4 are closely matched once rolling - the difference is so close that doing a few times might change the order?

I'm confused. I've driven a 996 which aren't a million miles from the 997. They do not feel they have anywhere near the same kind of speed compared to a RS4. Even the 997s is down on BHP/tonne, the 997 would not have the same kind of guts as a RS4.
ps I have now entered the ' RS4 is the best car in the world' phase. LOL

911: 350BHP/1463kg=239BHP/ton
RS4: 414BHP/1740kg=238BHP/ton
Evo: 345BHP/1466kg=235BHP/ton
Porsche gets it advantage once rolling by having RWD rather than AWD and by perhaps being a bit generous compared with its power claims?
I'm sure the RS4 will be wonderful, don't worry

Think you're right, it was a 997 C4 in the track test and a 911S in this month's test. Perhaps the C4 had higher cornering speeds and corner exit speeds so had a head start into the straights which the RS4 never obviously had chance to erode?
First time ive saw the new Audi RS4 was on Sunday at Santa Pod, saw it do a run of 12,9, and it sounded amazing.
Very nice car indeed, certainly top of my cars to buy wish list.

How so?
