Classics maybe, but irrespective of that I still think that there's probably more Scoobs that have been tracked than X5s that have been off road which was the original point made by Dave I believe.

What I find funny is that the people who are getting all worked up about the image of their cars are the ones who drive 4WD 'replica' rally cars of a decidely vintage technology. I really don't see X5 owners on a geeky website asking about how to get an extra 2BHP by mixing red bull or whatever with their petrol. There are people on here so **** about how they change their oil, stop the engine or how to fill up with fuel etc etc. its not the X5 owners who are caught up in their cars and image.....

Note to Flat Cap Driver, this website is not indicative of the world at large. Even on here its a tiny minority who track their car. Your average Scoob driver is very unlikely to have even considered it. I've seen loads of X5's parked up on grass verges

If I had kids and I dont, Theres would be nothing better then to see my wife/Girlfriend driving my little kiddies to school in a BMW X5 or any other large 4X4. At least if they where involved in a crash they would have a better chance of surviving.

And to be fair, when I get bored of the Scooby, my next car will be a BMW X5 or a Cayenne, cause im sick and tired of the speed bumps and pot holes on our crap roads.

I think, in your quest to make a point, you are confusing a grass verge with off roading and that if you considered it properly you'd probably concede that there is a greater chance that an Impreza has been on a track than a soft roader has been off road.

Put it this way, when I've done track days I usually find an assortment of Imprezas, Evos, Exiges, M5s, Radicals etc etc or other 'enthusiasts' cars. I've yet to come across an X5, Cayenne or X3 (or any other type of soft roader) on any of the green lanes round here or even at the odd off road event I've done.

Did the Cayenne Turbo not go round Milbrook faster than an M3 and then obviously a Scoob. Anyway put your sense of humour chip back in your shoulder

Either way, X5 or Imprezas are overkill on todays roads. Lets face it, what mum is gonna drop of their kids in a lowered Impreza, with phat exhaust, massive spoilers and ear piercing dump valve with Rally decals emblazened all over the car? Image is everything at the school gates, what image does that project? It doesn't meet the parents needs, likewise an X5 may not meet your needs.

X5.....big comfy, fast, all the toys, safe, well built..................sounds great, but unless theres a forum where i can wait for a thread called "Blue X5's" then happily post pics of mine fresh after a wash and get some close ups on the calipers i painted myself - its just gonna have to wait.

I just knew the X5 off roading fraternity would be out there. I need an off road vehicle, I know - I'll buy an X5.

I wouldn't assume all the X5 detractors are Impreza owners. I drive a BMW at the moment, I don't need 4 wheel drive anymore since moving and therefore didn't consider an X5. The 5 series is a better vehicle that costs less so non-off roading X5 owners must be no more than image conscious idiots for choosing a demonstrably worse vehicle that costs more.

Of course as the X5's image is sh1te that makes it twice as funny.

You can apply that to any car and their driver. There are cars that will do just as well as a 5 series for less money too, so whats your point? Why do people need a 4x4 rally replica for the road with 300bhp?

Does freedom of choice count for bog all these days? Our nanny state is bad enough without being frightened to buy a car due to the stereotypical "image" it might percieve.

My mum (who is a MUM) had an X5, and now has a Cayenne. Purchased because after 35 years of pure hard graft, it is what she WANTED. Not a Micra, Honda Insight, or a BMW Estate.

She couldn't give a stuff about off road ability. But she can bump it up the kerb outside the dry cleaners without worry.

And it ain't an image thing: her car history would make any petrolhead weep.

Personally I hate the bloated Porker. But she loves it, and ***** to everyone else. Including me.

As a car I think the X5 is pretty impressive. I like a high-up driving position and this coupled with good handling and build quality is obviously good.

On the other hand I hate what they represent, and for this reason would never have one. They have too much of a "new money" image - I bet a much higher percentage of X5's are bought on finance, than say Range Rover's.

What's wrong with buying a car on finance?

Name some RWD cars that do the job as well and as cheaply as a 5.

The X5 is just worse at doing all the things a 5 does and costs more. My point is presumably most people are buying them for the image and sadly for them (and amusingly for me)it couldn't be any worse.

Oh and Daniel this is a discussion forum for, er, what was it again? Oh, yeah, discussion. Anyone who contributed to the thread proves they care by doing so- including you!

Damn fine car the X5, capable, handsome but it does smack of arrogance regardless of the owner perhaps being the nicest person on the planet, question is, if you let one out, do they ever acknowledge you, no, didnt think so !

We had a Mercedes M class for a while, I felt such a c*nt driving it though, not me at all, could have kept it but it was rubbish (and at the time) a bit ostentatious.

Anyway, the Range Rover sport owners are set to make the X5 owners look like paragons of virtue, one at the school where our kids are, plonks it blocking driveways on the road you arent supposed to park on and hoofs it through parked cars and mummies crossing with kids, I think the problem is that the owners are evil, just think that only they exist or perhaps there life is more important or significant.

X5 plates, Roy and Ray variations, loads of them about.
