Of course the chances of meeting people on the same wavelength as you are greatly increased when you go to these things, but thats just a bonus. The reason I go is cos the music moves me and I want to move to the music. Nothing more.

If you take time to go on Google Images and search for Qlimax, you will see pictures of bars and beer. I'm sure there are lots and lots of people off their heads on all sorts of substances, but you can be certain that there will also be plenty of people drinking.
Personal choice and freewill is a wonderful thing TelBoy. Can you imagine a world where we all liked the same music as you, the same clothes as you, the same car as you?? We'd all be driving the same Subaru (if you have one), wearing the same slippers, smoking the same pipe and listening to the same "bangin'" Mantovani and Beethoven smash hits.
I'm obviously ripping the **** there, but you get the point?
I have what I'd term and eclectic taste in music. I like a bit of everything. I have been to big dance events, small ones, live rock concerts, etc, etc and enjoyed them all.
The average man in the pub, with his pint, watching the footy on the telly, smoking his cigarette thinks anything closely resembling "dance" music is all just "thump thump thump". He doesn't hear the fine points and generally doesn't believe that there are any......he's made his mind up that it's crap.
Do you fit into this category?
Open your mind a bit eh.......let people enjoy what they enjoy and you enjoy what you enjoy. No clash there. Each to their own an' all that malarkey.
I think I said before.......I'm not really into the music at that particular event ("it's just thump, thump, thump!!!"), but the event itself looks awesome. The planning, production, effects, lighting, etc....you have to appreciate the work that has gone into it. Rather like a classic Pink Floyd concert maybe? Not everyones cup of tea musically, but you can't fault it, taken as a whole.

No, trust me, i've been to raves before, in my stoopid bouncer days, but it never really looked like something you couldn't do in your own front room - stick a loud noise on, drink shedloads of alcohol, pop a few pills and slump into the corner till daybreak.

Its never a bad thing to expand your musical horizons and the best way to do it is with an open mind. If I had a closed mind and was unreceptive to different music, I would have never have grown to Love Techno, Hardcore Techno, Gabba, Psytrance and Breakcore AS WELL as UK Hardcore.

TelBoy......I apologise if the rant came over as a personal attack against you.
It wasn't meant that way.....I was stereotyping with the slippers, pipe, etc.
I don't know you, so can't comment on your interests, etc.
All I was saying is that it's different strokes for different folks.
I too am a bit old for all that raving stuff....been there, done that, got several tee shirts. I still enjoy a night out though, and love the odd "Retro" style event, even if it's for nothing more than stirring up memories of great times past.
