Just worrying that the fanatics include leaders of States such as Iran who spout their own hatred...... and not in cartoon form

At the end of the day, if they can't take a joke...........****'m :

Muslims are saying that those pictures are racists, and totaly out of order. Yet it's perfectly OK to block off a street in London, with police protection, to talk to fellow Muslims on how the West is the scum of the Earth and that they should harm and kill westerners.

Somthing wrong there I think.

It's incredible to see gunmen firing into the air outside the UN building in Palestine because of this.

I applaud the papers that published the cartoons as there is no way our right to freedom of speech and opinion should be dictated by anyone.

What about Nick Griffin getting off?

Doesn't that send out another signal about the relations between the west and islam?
Don't know the details of the case. However, the charge againt the bnp chaps is incitement to RACIAL hatred. The article seems to be addressing their comments against asylum seekers and muslims. These are social and religious groups of people, they are not RACES. Making bigotted comments, making stupid comments, making offensive comments yes, but it's not on racial grounds as far as I can see. However, this is a technical and moot point for the bnp as they are racist anyway but in a court of law, you have to be explicit.

Denmark is a Western country, not an Islamic one - the press can print whatever it wants to as long it is abides by the law of that country.

Im very disappointed none of the UK newpapers have printed these cartoons in support of fellow Western press in Europe. But I guess when youre dealing with that religion, doing anything to offend them could put the lives of the newspapers employees and their families in danger.

I am just going to shut up for ever, lest I offend someone, whether they need offending or not, I still have to deal with Gastro's fatwa over the Porsche Boxster v Saab thing to worry about, can deal with that but not the entire Muslim faith.

may i raise a pertinent point? if islam has been hijacked by fanatics - a nice line that plays well with liberal media types it seems to me - then why does the host religion tolerate this act of 'piracy'? should it not vigorously expunge that which it claims is ungodly and heretical?

reasoned & considered comment only please. i'm curious, as are others.
Interesting question, but I have a few in response:

Are you referring to the 'leaders' of the faith, or to ordinary folk? As an ordinary Muslim, If I met someone who wanted me to help them build a bomb, i'd be calling 999 straight away, if I met 'just' a nutter, who was going on about the evil west/should all burn in hell/should all die etc etc, I'd have a go at talking sense (I have done this before), or more likely I would do what any normal person would do and walk the other way. What else would you expect me to do?

How are these people to be identified? I dont think this is so easy. Islam teaches that the greatest enemies of Islam are within, never a truer word spoken. I, personally, view this type of religious extremism, in Islam or any other faith, as akin to a cancer, in the way that it is hidden, but also spreads.

Just my opinion of course, but I do believe that generalisations in this area are wrong and will only cause more problems. Look at some of the comments just on here?

It does appear that many people are very happy to use this to just have a pop. That is bound to get peoples' backs up in response (perhaps the desired response?)

Would you not agree that, in the past, the reputation of football supporters has been sullied by a few hooligans? This situation has some parallels, in my opinion.

FWIW, I do not believe that people should get so offended by some cartoons, certainly not to react with violence, or even to threaten violence. Islam is big enough to take this sort of thing on the chin.

I do believe however, that a lot of Muslims (me included) are feeling quite defensive about their faith right now and have to swallow hard to be able to take a lot of criticism. Young muslims for instance are being politicised by this and other events you see on the media, this just adds fuel to the fire.

Not sure what the end will be.

Just my tuppence

Asif
