If you study the OPEC shocks of the 1970-1990, gues what followed-the Gulf war.
any hows I have 'wasted' too much time as no doubt it will go straight in and straight out of many of your narrow minded, racist brains.

European countries have already been bending over backwards to accommodate the customs and religion of the large number of muslim immigrants, who have chosen to come and live in Europe of their own accord. Are we now expected to curtail our fundamental press freedoms as well, and allow us to be dictated to by extremists and fanatics in far flung countries?

New_scooby_04,
I also would have no time for any supporters of a religion who advocate violence as you say. That does not mean the the actual religion itself is recommending such action, it is purely down to people for their own ends.
If you look into it you will find that religions do not include such actions in their required way of living your life.

albeit thousands of fanatics, in many countries, all encouraged to kill, willing to kill and willing to be killed ...
may i raise a pertinent point? if islam has been hijacked by fanatics - a nice line that plays well with liberal media types it seems to me - then why does the host religion tolerate this act of 'piracy'? should it not vigorously expunge that which it claims is ungodly and heretical?
reasoned & considered comment only please. i'm curious, as are others.

Google the pictures, I'm sure you'll find them but if they are posted here or a link posted to them, there will be complaints. Just trying to pre-empt & keep a harmonious atmosphere on a car enthusiasts website. We already have 2 people on this thread offering each other out over it

However my -admitedly very limited- understanding of the religion is that fundamentally, life -any life- is seen as sacred. Any time you see an atrocity on the news you tend to get a stream of muslim leaders condeming violence and saying that terrorists do not represent the faith and are just perverting it for their ends.

islam has hundreds of millions of true and devout followers. that's a lot of spiritual traction. so what does an apparent inability - or apparent unwillingness, take your pick - to control its extreme fringe say about those that are in the positions of responsibility?

The European press, as any press in a free democracy, has every right to publish cartoons depicting anything in any light, including Islam. The fact that radical Islamists got touchy and upset over a few harmless cartoons shows how intolerant they are of anything even remotely resembling criticism of their faith.

See the images on Newsnight on BBC2 tonight:

This is a link to the story - not the images.
Considering the controversy, I'm surprised the BBC are risking it knowing how PC they like to be!

Fair comment IMO from the BBC debate:
"Islamic law does not apply to newspapers published in the West and Muslims cannot expect to be able impose Islamic law on non-Muslims. Muslims need to appreciate that their religion (and therefore Mohammed) is sacred only to themselves. If they have faith then no amount of cartoons in western newspapers should matter."

ooh..it's getting a bit heated in here...
just to throw some more fuel on the fire:

What about Nick Griffin getting off?
Doesn't that send out another signal about the relations between the west and islam?
