Another vote for cold turkey approach, it's been nearly 3 years for me now. The final straw for me was my ex who hated it, along with my own reasons (health, financial etc) that was it. I just downed the **** and left them there, i have to confess i have had the odd one since i gave up usually when pissed but i mostly find i hate the taste so much i can't finish it.

A mate has tried 4 or 5 times and failed, it's definitely mind over matter, you really need to want it

Best of luck

Thanks again for all the replies, I know a few people have said that patches prolong quitting as you are still having some form of nicotine in you, and that other things you get prescribed are no good, well I've never really tried to quit before so I didn't know what any prescribed meds would be like but after my first day of using a patch I've had to rip it off this morning as I have spent this morning shaking, feeling dizzy and being really sick, I wasn't planning on spending a whole day in the bathroom or going round shaking so I had to take it off as I don't know how long the effects will last for but with having a kid going round the place who needs attention I couldn't spend my time like that, I know it is only my first day but now I'm managing to just sit with my normal chewing gum and I haven't even wanted a cig this morning and I would usually have one with a cuppa as soon as I got up, if I can get past that one in the morning I know I'll be alright for the rest of the day.
