It shouldnt damage my turbo as I have the bigger TD05. My bov was already on the car when I got it, so it didnt cost me anything. Im just fed up with the noise it makes. Id rather listen to the engine note than alot of hot air blasting out everytime I give it a bit of stick.

Just a follow up really. I disconnected my SSQV at the weekend and to be honest it doest sound alot different still very noisey when letting off the throttle. Just slightly quiter than with the bov. The sound hasnt changed pitch at all. Doesnt seem to chatter like alot of people have said.

Think I will go to the standard recirc valve instead and sell the HKS one..

When i bought my 93wrx it was all blocked off with no dv on it at all, the car seemed to run ok, but felt as if something wasn't working right as it seemed a bit lazy on acceleration after gear changes.
I bought a Bailey vta first, and it made the car feel much more responsive, and it felt as if it was accelerating a lot more freely, but the pssssst got annoying after a while so i bought a Bailey re-circ, a lot quieter, just as responsive and still accelerating freely, but actually noticed that i was getting an extra 2 miles per gallon, bonus

The throttle response seems exactly the same to me. Doesnt run any different at all. I think the recirc one has to be the way to go.. The standard one should do for me. Im not paying out a fortune for a new after market one that has no benefit over the original. Id rather put the money to use else where.

I read something recently on this (i think was in iwoc), mentioned a couple of interesting points to consider:

The rally cars that run with no dv at all, have turbo's with 360 degree bearings, capable of handling the back pressure when throttle is closed. Maybe the TD05 has this design? I don't know but find out otherwise the mod could put extra wear on the turbo bearings.

Has the MAF already accounted for the air drawn past it? So it is not recircualted as with the standard system (with a bov it's Vented To Atmosphere, & with no dv...intake charge can get forced back through to the exhaust). Does this cause a standard ecu to run the engine richer than it should do?

I don't know personally, my MY93 has a BOV fitted by a previous owner, but after reading a few other texts along the same lines, I'm wondering if I should restore it back to the factory fitted recirc. valve.

Can anyone else confirm?

From the posts Ive read mate the recirculating ones are the best to go for. As the vta ones will cause the car to run rich. Once the MAF has accounted for the air going in there is no way of it knowing that the air has been vented. So this can cause problems. I must admit mine run fine with the hks vta, it was just the noise starting to get on my nerves. But as there is no performance benefit of haveing a vta and it is meant to be bad for the car. I think the recirc one is the way to go. Also I think the standard bov's can handle up to about 350bhp. So its only over that you need to think about getting an aftermarket one.
