I have spoken to a clio “abuser” tonight and apparently I was very very lucky. These things aren’t just fast you know, they would, I quote “rip me a new *rsehole” so it seems I was very very lucky. There are only a few reasons for the result.

Low temps…….so no heat soak in the sti.
Bit damp
He didn’t have ECU change, Decat, seats taken out, low fuel, warm engine, go faster stripes, hair crimpers in and hair dryer attached to cigarette lighter.
Wasn’t using optesco super 99 ron.

I think the chances of me coming across such a clio on a straight dragstrip under such conditions are pretty high so the poobaru will have to go up for sale.

Can anyone swap me for a ’00 clio with me paying say 10k cash?

Hot Clio's are fast cars alright, probably similarly fast as a WRX with remap on a rolling start. My girlfriend was all set to buy a 'Trophy' and we started to do a little research on this vehicle, built by Renault's finest at the old Alpine works in Dieppe I believe. You'd assume this meant better quality than a standard Clio right?

http://cliotrophy.co.uk/forum/viewfo...de20f4b4614c97

Went and had a look over on the Trophy owners website, notice the 2 main stickies

"Faults with your Trophy" and "Alarm problems- post here"?

Then take a look through the rest of the site and NEVER, EVER buy a Renault. Unless of course you like visiting some of the worst dealers in the world.

Still they are quick, when they work.

I can vouch for Renault dealers - Rubbish - I had a 172 cup and would not buy another renault due to the dealers.

I have to be honest and say that we bought one for my other half the other week. She's happy with it and if it keeps her quiet im even happier.

The Clio-Sport 172 is a fast bit of kit however I feel it has to much talk through the front wheels for such a light car. Which worries me some what in the controls of the better half as she is not the best of drivers.

We had to go somewhere last weekend where we both had to drive in our own cars. I was surprised to find her keeping up with me until I really started putting my foot down. After a couple of bitter words by her i.e. "Thought your car would have left mine for dead" her face did drop when I was telling her I was getting PPP fitted in the new year.
Now that could be the extra 93bhp I'd be pulling or the price tag of PPP stopping her shopping trips for a couple of months??

Totally agree.

A clio 182 would give a WRX a close one but with a remap its got no chance. TBH the standard WRX is still quicker even renaults own performance figures back this up. I can understand clio owners being proud of their cars as they are quick but every time us scoob owners start claiming our cars are faster than they actually are we get slated so its only fair that you guys may get some slack for your comments.

Having owned a 172 (and loved it) I'm well aware of their capabilities. Being really underestimated you can (or used to until they became more popular) suprise some big performance motors.

As far as smiles per mile per buck, they are unbeatable..!
