Default Strange incident, am I dreaming?

I currently own the second slowest production car ever made (after a WRX) an STI PPP type UK (I feel embarrassed even writing those words) and generally try to keep my head down and avoid anything vaguely fast.

I was out yesterday and suddenly a 172 cliosport appeared 1 inch from my bumper. I started shaking with nervousness at the thought of a true sports car behind me. He followed me like this until a set of traffic lights appeared. As he started revving his engine I noticed he had 2 passengers, which meant he must have his back seats in (a rare occurrence!) As he started shouting something at me and generally laughing at my piece of Jap rubbish, I thought I would see what my fat, overblown, over rated, over stated piece of rubbish could do.

I could not believe what happened next…….I left him for dead…….twice !

I can only put this down to 5 things
  1. He had a full tank of petrol
  2. He had passengers and hence loads of weight and his seats in
  3. He wasn’t trying
  4. It was a dream
  5. The renault cliosport is infact the second slowest car in the world?!
Horrified of Kent

PS I will never try anything as audacious as this again…..I know my place

You forgot option 6

6. His wheels were clad in "cold" racing slicks therefore unable to gain any traction in these wintery wet conditions .

How dare you take on the might of renault in your jap crap! Remember racing such cars could lead to real embaressement, in future pull over and let the far superior vehicle pass whilst saluting the racing hero at the wheel .

Paul.

Maybe he was suffering from a misfire or loss of boost from his Turbo Zet.

Well quite. My 4 wheel drive system was sapping so much power I only got off the line due to a heavy tail wind. Luckily he turned off before the fabled “twisties” or I would have understeered into a hedge.

I was having fun round the twisties last week, followed by a brave Seat (I think curpra R), the more I pushed the car into corners, the more he tried to keep up.

Can you guess what happened, I heard a crash behind me, he's gone of the road and logged his front-end into a tree, luckly he was ok.

This all occured legal speeds and the road was dry, the AA picked up the car and the police were not involved.

I don't have heart to tell the poor fellow the scobby was 4WD and whyt was he driving like colin Macrey

You would have normally been left in the wake of exhaust fumes of course, save for the very well known technical issue with the clio 172 that manifests itself precisely under the conditions you mention. It's much more complicated than MAFs, heatsoak, boost cuts etc.... and often causes embarassment at the lights:
.
.
.
.
.
.

It's a French car

All the time!

Best was a 1.0 Swift at the lights with quite the largest diameter Backbox I'd ever seen. I laughed so hard I almost stalled!!

He did not look happy!!

Sounds very familiar, usually 1.2 Corsa's (or similar) with the worst looking (and fitting) bodykit's you've ever laid eyes on. Why o why?

I had a lad in a standard looking 1.2 litre Fiat Punto with a loud jap style exhaust pull up next to me at the traffic lights revving his engine, He decided to have a head start while the lights where red.

I couldnt believe what I had saw and decided to keep away.

Are you sure it was a 172 Clio Sport????

I think you will find it was probably a 1.1 Clio, with 172 badges.

What are you thinking of, saying a Subaru is faster than a 172 !!!!!

You will be saying the world isn't flat next.

Point and laugh mate, it always works!

Failing that, blow them a kiss, that gets on their nerves even more.....and if its a girl racer you might even get some!!!!

He probably had some sort of electrical fault caused by the six 15inch sub-woofers installed by his mate Daz - who works in Halfords on Saturdays.

I can clear up the confusion here once and for all - the Clio is currently running 500bhp with a bored out and tuned to the **** engine with nitrous - BUT - he couldnt take you because the engine has just been refinished and hes only running it in, so couldnt go above 3K.

Leave it a month and have another go and all you'll see is the distant glow of his wheelarch neons as he screams off into the distance ( while his baseball capped, skinny ****, bum flush moustache mates all do the clicky finger thing and shout things like WIKKID at each other ).

So far this week I’ve been 'dun' by, a 1.8 red escort with a wing the size of Dagenham, a Daewoo Matiz (in orange) a ford focus 1.6 LX and a 316i. I have to say I find your story hard to believe as none of the cars that 'did' me had anywhere near the power of the Cup. He must have had it in reverse it's the only possible explanation.

By the way, people revving the crap out of the engine and wheel spinning away while you are turning left still constitutes getting 'dun' right?

Yes, as does being "left in the dust" when becapped ones spot you in their rear view mirror, put their foot down in a 30 and admire the gap they open up on ya cause you were clearly trying to keep up............. in 5th at 1500rpm!

If anyone overtakes you.....ever, you've been dun er.....my sun!
