just read this thread and thought i would post.
i raced a sports motor bike off the lights the other day, side by side at the lights, 7000rpm and side stepped the clutch, looked in my mirror, i had beaten the bike off the line, but as i reached bout 60mph the bike went by me on the back wheel and put his hand up to me.
he was as impressed as me that i beat him off the line.
i have a 93 JDM WRX.
scoobys r very quick cars no matter what any1 else says.

That is an absolute stupid comment. For the reason the chap owns it is a millionare so no bill from RCM is too big. Wat shell that engine goes into makes no difference.

This may be a bit controversial but IMO the new age WRX is quicker than the classic UK for the same spec ie OE turbo/intercooler on just a decat and remap. I have mapped loads of each and in particualr the 03 onwards WRX produces the best results (acceleration through the gears)

Your car is 300bhp at the flywheel, his car at 263 wheel horse power, which will be about 340bhp at the flywheel.
So he will wipe the floor with you!!

i cna hardly see how a classic is quicker than a newage impreza because its 200kg heavier when a classic is 208bhp standard and a newage is 225bhp and depends how fat u and u friends are lol. and another point like to ask wouldnt a newage impreza have better handling than a classic or do they make newer model cars and make them more crap, i would have thought not as a newer car means more advanced technolgy.

WRX isnt that slow, but I would'nt say it would whip cars like Civic Type R's and Clio cups but there wouldnt be anything in it in a rolling start. But how many of those **** box hothatches could you get 300bhp with a remap and a full decat, Even Supercharged Civic Type R's struggle to reach that power and your looking at £3k+ for a supercharger + decatting it and other supporting mods which = a **** load of money to spend on a car that will torque steer like f**k, makes the Scooby WRX look a bit of a bargain to get power out of.

it maybe an absolute stupid comment in your eyes Legacy but at the end of the day its the truth. A bugeye held the world record and i shook the mans hand after he did the run.

So in my eyes it was a valid comment and now andy f holds the record in a classic, so well done to the classic .

i had a classic but now own a newage, which has enough power for me.

WRX 7.0 (did they launch in 2nd gear?)
130i 6.9
Meg 6.8

Topspeed
WRX 143
130i 155
Meg 146

30-50 in 3rd
WRX 3.6
130i 3.2
Meg 3.4

50-75 in 4th
WRX 5.9
130i 5.8
Meg 5.7

Obviously if they stuck PPP on the Scooby, things would have looked rather different, but as it was the Beemer won the group test quite comfortably.

no one has ever said a wrx is a drag car, it was designed for rallies, ie, drive in the twisties and there isnt much that will keep up.

i rest my case!

On the roads around where we live (little country lanes) our WRX has never met its match. Closest was a UK turbo with a big 'zaust which fell behind on every corner and caught up on the straights. It lives just down the road and it looks pretty much standard apart from the exhaust. But i suppose the fact that my familys travelled that road pretty much everyday for 14 years helps, so i know every braking point, overtaking point, speed to take corners, gears for each corner etc, so not much else stands a chance, even in the diesel FWD Volvo V70!

Dual carriageway challenges arent it's strangth, it'll get whipped by anything with a decent amount of torque and 2 wheel drive, but standing starts to 50 it'll take anything 2 wheel drive.

The most annoying part of the WRX is the power drop off after 5500 rpm.

well that 0-62 time for the wrx is bollocks !! but what do you expect from the land of gold members , they were probably too stoned to stop the watch or they were passing the reefer at the time !!

Well we can safely say this magazines comments are irrelevent if they cant launch a sccoby off the line quicker than 7 secs to 60. Have all the roadtesters just passed their tests. One magazines opinions does is not the be all and end all. A meganne FFS lol and a beemer, nuff said i think. Beemer costs how much?????? oh yea about 27k basic so not a good comparison really is it. Also why would I want a bloody front wheel drive car with 225bhp. It will be pish as soon as it rains. 7 secs to 60 ha ha and they actually published those figures the mag must be run by retards.

Haven't read the article, but surely that's got to be for the non-turbo 2.5? None of the turbo'd 2.0 litre lumps will do the dash in more than about 6.5.....

If u were not so ignorant and read the fecking thread u might understand that its the use of the word "SLOW" is what im saying is a rediculous statement . A clio Cup would at best be a fraction quicker once rolling, so would u then call that SLOW? A 944 Turbo (a.k.a the car for ******* who cant afford a 911) is not that much faster, so again, would u call that SLOW?
If that is the only cars u have driven other than the WRX then u are not even close to being in a position to call them slow
Now once u have driven a F1 car on a regular bases i might then think u are in a position to class ANY of these cars as SLOW
