at which point do i contact Toys R Us about my pre order? they said they'd ring me to see which 'pack' i'd want closer to the date, i'd say a week before is close enough

Went into Game yesterday. Was asked if I'd recieved my pre-release pack. "What pack?" said I.
Turns out a load of paperwork was sent out, but to my old address
D'Oh!
They were really good about it too - ensured I'd got my receipt (for my deposit), took my pre-order for PGR3 and then said, "Would you like us to contact you next week about coming in to pick it up @ midnight?"
I've never done this with any console, but I figure you've gotta do at least one geeky thing in your life!
In two minds really - at least I will be able to check it works
I've got a feeling even though I've bought mine from the sale of my old Xbox, Wifey's gonna confiscate it until Chrimbo 
and use it as a prezzie. SO realistically, won't get a good session on it until day after Boxing Day
Might play the birthday card (2 days before launch)

It states in the front page
"Your Xbox 360 will be ready to pick up from the Game store where you placed your preorder on the official launch date the 2nd December. Please ensure that you pick up your machine before the close of business on Monday 5th December otherwise we cannot guarantee that your Xbox 360 will be available from our first stock delivery"

Tesco will be selling the games for £39.99 in store as of the 2nd. Local store told me they will have all the games, but hardly any (if at all) consoles in the first week of sale...the second week though, they should be selling them off the shelves.....personally, knowing the likes of Tesco and Asda, they will have stock at midnight on the day of release and people will get them there....maybe a friendly chat with the local store manager should give you some idea...(a slippery £20.00 note wouldnt hurt)
I spoke with Microsoft customer services today, and they said they had'nt a clue who was getting the most etc etc and said all they could say is they will be VERY hard to get hold of (is this a marketing plan to increase the hype?)
Shall wait and see....am expecting to get done over by hooded oiks 4 minutes after collecting mine from my local store LOL

Amazon have point blank refused to tell anyone when the console will arrive I've emailed and called and they won't say.
there's been lots of talk that if you ammend your order it goes to the bottom of the pile again but if it's over a certain amount then it goes to a priority setting in the system 
all that was from someone who worked for Amazon.
My plan is now to go to ASDA/TESCO on the 1st if I don't get a dispatch Email from Amazon by late afternoon on the 1st.

ScoobyJawa and Hanley, i pre-ordered with Play in May, i had an e-mail a few weeks back stating that they may not be able to complete all orders as Microsoft had informed them that there was going to be a shortage. If i wanted to cancel that was fine, [where were you going to go?, all shops had stop guaranting release date boxes]
I e-mailed them back telling them that i hoped that i would be getting one because from the date, 30th May, that i ordered and it was when it was priced at £400. [Got to use all the ammo you've got, and i haven't got much ]
E-mailed them again yesterday asking for any updates on stock, and i received a reply stating that they were going to go by date ordered, so fingers crossed.
Looks like i could end up receiving a couple of games and no console, WTF!!!.

Toys R Us were completely in the dark when i asked them today, they said they only rang up people with pre orders for the PSP 2 days before launch as they didn't know what they were getting not worried yet

Getting mine on 2nd December, only a core system but only ordered on the 14th November, I dont mind paying the extra for the add ons since I was so late ordering. Game emailed me this morning to confirm

Spoke to Play this morning. The girl on the phone said they hadn't been told how many they were getting or how many people had ordered one (erm, shouldn't they at least know this?) so couldn't tell me when I'd be likely to see mine. With my luck, if I do get mine on the 2nd, it'll be one of the overheating ones
