Probably get the 306 gti brake set up then, seems the cheaper option to the 4 pot conversion, which isn't cheap!

Thinking of running the pug on the road til the MOT runs out, July next year then SORN and have it for track use only. I take it there will be no insurance, road tax or mot to pay if its just a track car?

Will also seriously think of swapping the engine for a mi16 as I know a friend of a friend that does this kind of thing to a good standard. Will hopefully run the standard set up while I source and recondition an mi16 unit. The 1.9 unit seems quite underpowered, but the handling is very very good.

Have just completed the long winded affair membership on the gti forum mentioned. Seems a bit clicky on there however with long winded rules and regs and doesn't seem to have a *warm* community feeling like SN

Its a good community, takes a while to get to know everyone, but the long winded rules means it keeps out the trolls and idiots

Technical posts and info is second to none, i've learnt loads on there while doing my Mi16 rebuild project.

Yep I'll stick with it I think. How much is your mi16 project costing. I notice 200 bhp, that must be uprated somehow

the problem with a track car that has no MOT is how do you test it out ? Plus having the MOT ensures you keep it in good/safe knick

yeah 205drivers is my fav forum, it's an excellent forum to get any info you need etc. there are plenty of people there that will go the extra mile to help a fellow pugger out etc.

Not sure what will happen with the TB's results wise

Got those mini cone filters for now to get it all running, but also received my 60mm Weber trumpets tonight from Ebay - they need skimming down a bit, but should fit perfectly inside the TB's.

Gonna try with both the cones and the trumpets, see what happens power wise.

Throttle bodies and a racing cam are in the mix I assume?

The thing mostly is insurance. I'm already paying 350 a year for a standard car, as soon as I start messing with mi16 engines etc the premium will go through the roof I'd expect. Probably end up paying more in insurance than what the car is worth! Can regularly get the car mot'd each year even if it fails, at least Ill know what's wrong with it at that time, or get it checked over by a mechanic. Mots aren't foolproof anyway, coupled with only being done once a year I'd say they aren't the best of practices for keeping a track car in tip top.

Are you mi16 converters planning for track use only or have you got some quotes for road use?

Thirded!!! Its no where near as clicky as places like here! The long winded stuff is from a load of **** a year or so ago, plenty of people being idiots etc, and this has kurbed most of it so its a pretty good forum now

205 track cars defo the way to go. Me and Big Daz picked up a 205 for literally pocket money. Spent a few quid on it bought a trailer to tow it with. We now have a superb dedicated track car.

From this not bad little motor

To this stripped out 200bhp monster

The eagle eyed of you will spot that this is us rounding the hairpin at Knockhill after wasting the P1 you can just see behind us along the back straight

Why, because we drive one of the most iconic, best handling and best looking cars ever made rather than a "chav" Scoob

Oh, and we're quicker.

You ever driven one PG?

LMAO!!

One of the most fun cars around you can drive - and widely known as that After all these years its still the reference car that everything else is compared to

Oh, and banging on about it annoys non-owners a treat Who'd believe you could do such a thing on an internet forum

scoobynutta555 keep your eyes out for a black 1.9 (Mi16 )with morrette's around Luton, as that's me. Also a noisy blue STi3 wagon as the downpipe is in 2 pieces, opps!

Insurance: people started to get a bit stroppy for a modded and tuned Mi16, but got it for about £350 fully comp on a classic policy! Let me know if you need more details.

Brakes: Got GTi6 calipers and discs (groved and drilled) on mine, a squeeze behind the standard rims but fit and a 406 master cylinder, very good even without braided hoses on standard pads. Agree with everthing said about them!

Definatly go for a quickshift of some description, a big improvement.

Welcome to 205 ownership, and maybe see you around!

madmoog

MI16 for track use is a problem. They suffer from oil surge unless you baffle the sump. Just a thought....

They are just so much fun. A group of 4 of us bough one for £85. Now spent well over a grand (including tools, mot's, some garage costs ets!) but we've done 3 track days, and the car is driven everyday by one of us on the road. It's stripped bare and has a 1.6 box in so it's quite an experience!

Everyone should try one. They make a very affordable track car, and can surprise some newer more powerful cars! We went around the track with a chap who bought a Cooper S with the intention of tracking it... We took him out in our Pug, and he was gutted. He spent £16k on what he thought would make a good track car, and ours whipped it round the track.

They can be very tail happy when provoked, but on a sodden track, with just 2 other cars lapping, i was having the time of my life. Plenty of sideways action on every corner [Shout out to Miles - how's the Pug?). Buy one, everyone!

I've had two 1.9 Gti's pre-cat as there the quicker ones, cat versions are so slow....

Look out for rear wheel arm wear, these can prove to be quite costly.

Dump the breather pipes out of the intake return, vent them to air.

I'de have another pre-cat 205, absolute animals when running correctly.

Try autofive 'Peugeot specailists' for spares, out in cheshire I think.

Covered many many miles in both my 205's, even towing my jet-ski, that was no bother at all.

Would consider changing my Scoob for a real tidy Dimma, or 205T16 look-a-like, in a sensible colour that is.

Are you still using yours on track? How's the scoob?

Good job. Sounds like you are giving it plenty of stick! Ours is still going strong. Only thing to brake has been an auto-adjuster for one of the drums, and the filler cap. Less than £10 spent since i last saw u!

Lol I don’t often post on here but I can’t sleep and have just been reading this post, but feel I must as there is a lot of liquid ****e. What is it with Subaru drivers I know you have been tarnished by a very dirty (scaly) but I don’t it understand at all, they are really not the best car on the planet, they are dirty cheap nasty and thirsty.
I'm a massive 205 fan and they are devastating in the right spec on the track and are highly capable even in standard trim for peanuts, a volatile Scooby can be had for what 2K, a 205 for £200 I know which I would pick!! Plus they handle like the bits, a scooooob doesn’t really now does it? Its heavy and all the power is pissed away through 4wd the only way they handle in the same league is if you spend wonga on the suspension, a 205 handles really well even on tired suspension and a seized rear beam. The proof is in the pudding so they say, end of!!!

Oh and the next *** to fit a big gay exhaust so every normal human being within 3miles can hear that so lovely flat four burble is going to get a fat slap. Stop it it’s not clever and you look like a right *** with a broken exhaust.
