Chris - you must be one of the very few people on SN who've owned their car from new - and it's as rare as rocking horse ****........ and it only ended up becoming a private car because Prodrive decided to switch to the type-r shell. That makes you special . Get rid of the PINK badge.

Next planned mods are re map, fitting of water spray and possible brake upgrade. That may become necessary after re map! It has a vf29 turbo. Now i am no fan of fmics. i think they are far too costly and create too much lag something any tuner should confirm. i think the way to go is chargecooling. However even these are exhorbitant in price. Another side effect of fmics is the engine running lean due to the increase of air entering the TB therefore bank on some expensive injectors too boys! As the standard 380 cc jobbies will probably max out. By then way Mr.Taylor what injectors do our cars have? Is there a fifth injector? I admire your tenacity in trying to get to know the full tech info of our cars there is much we are in the dark about. Keep up the good work!
I'm having my car mapped tomorrow for the first time in its life. I'm amazed it hasn't been done before given the amount of work it's had done to it previously. Saving grace is I know Lee@WRX (who ran the car from arrival in the UK) ran it consistently on 98 plus octane booster. The second owner then blew the engine at the 'Ring. This was at 47k. The car was run-in for 1k and then serviced (48k) and I bought the car at 49k because the owner had sourced himself a Porker and wanted to move on (he asked Lee to sell it as he's based in the states).
Cars going back into the shop tomorrow to have a Mocal Oil Cooler fitted, turbo timer back on (which I removed from the last car), Fuchs Racing brake fluid, Silkolene PRO S 10w-50 oil (just for piece of mind) and the Ecutek map. Whilst the Oil cooler's being fitted (bumper off) I'm going to spray the FMIC black and replace the ally mesh with black. This should keep things looking standard. Finally, the sideskirts are coming off as nature intended.
Weighed my car today (I have to much time on my hands) 1260kg with a brimmed tank. Not bad. When I get my power read outs on friday I'll work out power to weight ratios. I understand that there are many variables, for example I intend to factor me in to the equation, and then of course you need to add +- 1 or 2% for atmospheric changes, different RRs etc. It'll still be a fun excersise though and will help me/us compare our cars performance against some of the exotica.
Bit worried about my fuelling now . I was hoping the Walbro 255 FP would solve the top end lean out issue. 380/440? Either way 380 injectors are good for 330/330 surely?

Would any one mind taking a good quality, square, close up pic of their RA badge please? I'm without and would like to make a vinyl set - let me know if you interested and I'll make a few up.

Hello Maz,
He's a good man your brother!
The car will be with my tuner over night. The reason for this map is to a) buy the license b) set it up for 97/98 fuel and c) to make sure everything is running as should given all the mods.
I'll be a getting custom up pipe (matched to the manifold) and matching down pipe made soon and will be replacing the centre cat with a high flow item. Once this has happened it'll be set-up properly. I'll do a little write-up on each of the stages.
The old STI issue - ah well, hopefully this thread will give readers a better understanding of the differences between the WRX/STI/RA variants. To be fair even sites like SIDC and Ravensblade and the popular books all have inaccuracies. It' no surprise people get confused.
Charge coolers. I know they're available for Imprezas and the thing that attracted me was the potential for winter weather performance in the summer. Why don't you be one of the first Maz?
Thanks for the badge mate

Incidentally (apologies as i go all geeky now), does the air inlet temp sensor measure the temperature after the MAF or after the intercooler. The reason i ask is because people have cold ducting to the air filter to direct the cold air into it. If you could substantially reduce temperature further on via a charge cooler is cold air ducting necessary? Or is the ducting there to provide more air?! Oh god my head hurts, do i need to lie down? This is a general question so peeps chip in with your facts. The only thing currently holding me back on further investment(?!) in the car is her in drawers who thinks i spend far too much money on it. I have tried explaining that to some people it is life and death and to others like me it is far far more important! In due course J i would like to explore the chargecooler route as heat is the one thing which affects engine performance and longevity the most. As Harvey Smith once said to me "keep the cold things cold and the hot things hot".
The point you make about the charge cooler is interesting. (Guess work, I'm no expert) Would the need to battle against induction heat soak be reduced? I would say keep doing what we're doing but have an even cooler charge as a result of the charge cooler.
I'd suggest asking about Chargecoolers in technical and putting the link in here.
