I know nothing about either but would be keen to learn. My missus has just looked at this thread and has suggested I go and buy an anorak.

Chris,

Read the SIDC thread. Is the fith injector plumbing only on the pre V5 cars then? I'd check mine but it's at the garage.

Not sure but it does look like phase 1 engines only (pre my99 v5)

Another techy question mate. Are the phase 2 STI/RA blocks open deck?

All blocks post 97 are open deck, due to a change in the wrc rules iirc. Basically power was limited to 300bhp so the engines did not need to be closed deck.

My V5 definitely does not have a 5th injector. I'm sure I read somewhere that it was the earlier STI RAs that had them......however they were not plumbed in and the ecu was not capable of controlling them anyway? This may of course have been written by an 'internet-expert'....

On a different point - James, do the centre caps on your Rotas fit? Mine won't go on as the driveshafts protrude through the centre holes too far. The project STI RA in Jap Performance mag has had Rotas fitted this month and they look to be fitted OK.

Rgds, Ade

Hello Ade,

Hope you're well.

They fitted my UK car fine. I've only removed on the RA for the tough JDM look. You're spot-on re the 5th injector.

A little post of my latest mod-fest. I've decided to get the decat done now - a) because there was a good used decat available at my tuners and b) I'm entirely incapable of sticking to a plan.

Sorry about the picture quality - camera phone.

Intercooler off and painted matt black.

Oil cooler bracketed in between the rad and the IC (obviously IC not yet replaced). Exhaust manifold off.

Oil cooler pipe work

fixings

Cat removed

Daylight

3 inch down pipe pre-wrap

4-1 pre wrap

2 x 1.25"

1.5"

I now have to wait for the Thermo Tec exhaust wrap (graphite), turbo jacket and high heat coating to arrive to complete the job and get it re-installed.

If only I had ramps

I've had several offers but yours is the first to materialise Ade.

Thank you mate

What are the dimensions mate? I.E. If you were to draw a square around the above what would be the height and width?

Yes......I do want blood

P.S. How did the sprint go?

Just been looking at this again Ade. It really does look right. What about those 555 decals, were they standard?

Just done a quick measure of the sticker.....bit awkward to get to back in garage, but looks to be about 105mm x 19mm.

The '555' on the side and rear of my car were added by me. I removed the large 'brown' WRX from the back of mine pretty soon after purchase. I think the crescents, as per '97 WRC, look like they should always have been on it now. Don't look too closely - I cut them by hand - wanted to see if they looked OK before getting some done professionally.

Hillclimb today was good fun. The course was alot harder than it looked on the diagram. Can't get any feel for contour on a piece of paper! 1st practice run was very much feeling my way around - 51.58secs. 2nd practice alot better at 49.03. 1st timed run car 'died' for a second coming out of a hairpin so didn't push for rest of run - 52.00. Had to get a decent time in on final timed run so took it a bit steady and banked 49.23. Good enough for 7th out of 15 in class. Well pleased given lack of experience at venue and having to put in a safe time for championship reasons on timed run.

Couple of quick pics........

Thanks for those dimensions Ade.

You did well at the hill climb mate; middle ranking with little knowledge of the course and reliabilty issues has to be a result. You'll have to give me some advice, I quite fancy joining up for next season.

Rotas look nice mate, suit the car IMO.

Speak soon

J

The wrapping process.

Thoroughly cleaned with a soft wire brush and soaked in WD40.

Jubliee clips sprayed with VHT paint

]

Downpipe complete

Manifold not complete - ran out of buggering wrap!!

I'll complete the last two pipes on Mon and then we can crack on with the mapping process.

Well mate - I pick it up today (hopefully) and will let you know how it's gone. It's been ten days since I last drove Scoob and it seems a lot longer.

Ecutek
Walbro 255
Full Decat
Lagged

Just been mapped on the road at the moment whilkst my tuner waits for his new RR. It makes an appreciable difference - turbo spools up quicker, a load more mid range torque, pulls more urgently to the red line etc etc.

Bar peaks at 1.2 (safe for the VF29) and AFR is spot on throughout. A trip to powerstation tomorrow for a F&R ARB, drop links and geomatry and the car should be close to sorted - until the next round of changes.

P.S. Looking a bit different now. PICs later.

Things moving apace. The car is evolving nicely and the back to basics approach should pay dividends. I hope you can get some specs soon ie weight, power etc and how the car compares to before. Good luck James.

Regards maz.

Just got back from Powerstation having had the rear ARB and Ally drop links done. Also on the menu were the anti lift and bumpsteer mods and the obligatory geomatory. Not an enormous difference but turn in feels sharper and the car feels more planted. I've not driven it in anger around the twisty's yet, which is where Im sure I'll notice more of a difference.

Maz,

Weighed the car the other day with a full tank and fully loaded with mats etc and it came in at 1260KG - I'm looking forward to the power readings so I can work out the power to weight.

P.S. Litcho gave me a test drive in the Spec C. It's a very civilised car compared to mine and I'm sure it will be blistering when the imminent mods are in place. Interesting to see the prep work for the Tuners GT taking place at Powerstation; an enormous amount of work to be done by Saturday - good bunch of lads up there and I wish them the best of British.

Default type ra stickers

James

Could be someone on here picked up on your request for the image/sizes.....there is an item on ebay (search for impreza type ra) offering these stickers at £1.95 in any colour.

Might be worth a look if you are not already sorted?
