you could always buy a gti with a shagged engine & stick the diesel lump in it - I nearly did that but bought a 306 d-turbo instead. Has gti wheels too so looks a little sporty. Much comfier for big miles & a little quicker too as they have an intercooler & slightly bigger engine.

I have read somewhere you can fit an intercooler to the 205 D-Turbo engine which then gives the car 115BHP.

Still tempted on a GTi although I am going to have to give serious consideration about fuel prices. Or try trading in my Pug 205 TD for the STDT and have the GTi suspension added later. Decisions...decisions.

Thanks for the banter people.

Well, no

Still have to sort out the bike TB's/manifold, fit the Emerald, make the wiring loom from scratch, sort the interior out, then all the other bits (cooling/breather system), then get it all running

Has anyone else owned or driven the 205 STDT? Seen pictures of the inside and look pretty much the same as the GTi but with a white interior.

Theres plenty of STDT drivers on the 205 forum - they are considered to be very good cars, and they always had a good reputation back in the day.

I had a MY94 STDT from new for 3 years and it was a great car. OK, it doesn't have the GTi suspension, but the 205 chassis is still very chuckable and it handled well. Fuel consumption was about 350-400 miles on a tank and I gave it a very hard life indeed. There were a few problems though - the radiator packed in, which I had replaced, then the head gasket went and warped the head which I had to have reskimmed. Interior finish was quite luxurious for a little hatch as well. The worst thing about it though was the wheels - those bloody centre caps - I'll bet there isn't a Pug driver in the land with the same wheels who still has a full set of centres for them ! Bloody useless !

I think it was about the 50-55k mark if I recall correctly, but like I say I abused the car mercilessly ! Also I think the radiator and head gasket problem may have been connected in some way. Still I'd imagine a properly maintained example to be reasonably reliable, but probably wouldn't go for one with too many miles on it. Very cheap to run, and fun too - but get some better wheels !

Will consider that. Thanks MJW. Will have a look at 205GTIdrivers.com forum and see about the GTi. Otherwise I still fancy part exing the Mardi Gras in for an STDT. FIngers crossed.

Thanks again to those who replied

Default STDT and some

94.L.metallic green.tan interior.
only 150 made, its a diesel GTI,but bnly
g7. insurance instead of g13 for GTI.
150k.FSH.MOTed oct tax march 2011.
sunroof.electric windows.central locking recent timing belt.
I lost all proportion with this and spent a fortune on it eg. all new lights, windsreen, rally strut tops.
gentry wheels,wind deflecters
plus parts not fitted include: complete lock set inc, ignition, sunroof deflecter, spare set of alloys/tyres
strut brace top/bottom,complete leather interior inc. door cards +loads more.
BAD BIT: the dash board is out and the heater matrix needs replacing(£45).I started it myself but have ruined my back and can no longer work on it
its a much admired car and handles better than any new stuff.last year it did 450 miles loaded to the gunnels for £35.
looking for £900ish
