have i missed something on this thread or surely anything you carry in the car that you would attempt to use to defend yourself stands an equal chance of being grabbed and used against you. how many people have the conviction to get out of the car and attempt to batter two people at once with a screwdriver/wheelbrace or carpetbag full of nun-chucks??

seems like it would end up as a sad case of being beaten to death by your own shoe, not really an option i would take.

no, i think i will stick to locked doors and a heavy right foot. if anyone taps on the window or runs at the car then i vamos!!

or are we actually comparing the size of our ****?

I think you are taking some of the obvious bravado, amongst the sensible(ish) replies, too seriously.

As you suggest, I imagine that many people wouldn't have the presence of mind to react quickly enough to prevent being car jacked, regardless of any protection they have on board.

There are also plenty of circumstances where driving off isn't an option.

Locking the doors is not much protection either, when the car-jacker comes equiped with something to smash the window. If you're talking locking the doors, having an anti-smash film on the windows, and always driving/stopping such that you have space to get away, then maybe you have a point.

Most car jackers don't want to get injured, nor be involved in a lenghty struggle. Any legally justifiable method of detering a would-be car-jacker is worth considering. Even if all it does, is to give the driver piece of mind about an extremely unlikely occurance (in the UK at least).

It might be worth considering the fact that, if everyone had a car full of weapons, car-jackers would start to equip themselves to counter this. Just look at what goes on in South Africa. People started carrying guns in their cars to prevent gun wielding car-jackers. The car-jackers responded by just shooting the driver, rather than just threaten them with a gun, to ensure they got the car and didn't get killed themselves.

By the way, my **** is enormous.

What about that ant/wasp spray that can shoot upto 15 ft. Surely that would be brilliant. You could even mix a few things in with it like ammonia/bleach etc..

For god's sake, people. The best thing you can use against car jacking is your eyes... I drive with the doors locked, never stop too close to the car in front at traffic lights, and always use my mirrors whenever I'm stopped.

Call me super paranoid, but whenever I am stopped at lights or whatever, I'm always thinking of an escape route - be it driving through the red light, using the path etc.

I don't think I'd stand a chance in a physical confrontation, and would never put myself in that situation...
