Smart thinking today may indicate you should pickup a nearly new 8 260 for 16 - 17k, spend around 2.5k on tuning it and get a dyno proven 350 ATF with torque to match.

People think Evos wear clutches out like Scoobys have chocolate engines. In my experience neither is true but it doesn't stop people perpetuating the myth. Slip the clutch in ANY 4 wheel drive car are it will wear out quickly. Put 95 octane in ANY tuned / turbo engine designed for 100 octane and it might just blow the **** up.

Test drive of the FQ340 arranged for Saturday!!! The suspension set up should be exciting. Loads of questions about the piggyback Unichip, boost spikes and fluctuations and potential det problems all prepared and ready to confuse them...we'll see what happens!

Well, I test drove the MR FQ340 today. OMG . What an impressive machine. The acceleration can only be described as insane! Very little lag, less than my MY03 STi PPP, much less. The off-boost torque is good too. It pootled around town very comfortably on our way to the twisties. On arrival at the country roads the beast was unleashed! This is the quickest car I've ever driven. The power and torque delivery goes on and on. Equally as impressive as the power and its profile of delivery, is the Bilstein suspension setup. The steering is quite light compared to mine but you feel the road through your hands and ar$e as though you were touching it. The ride was very firm, but not boneshakingly so. I undertook some overtaking (nice use of language there...don't you think? ) that I wouldn't have contemplated in my car, and it was done with ease. The car itself was beautiful. A lovely graphite grey with black leather and alcantara Recaro setup inside. The dealership had an FQ400 on the forecourt and its finish was inferior to the 340 (too much carbon fibre...what are those wipers all about?). It was sold so I couldn't get a drive of it (like they would have let me anyway!). Financially the change is prohibitive, even with the current deal of -£2000 (pre-registered) on top of the £1000 discount. Without going into detail the money I was being offered for mine was crazy (if our cars are so good how come they don't maintain their prices better than they do?). The price differential would comfortably allow very serious suspension/turbo/remap mods on mine (including a cushion for blowing the warranty) and still leave change in the pocket. In conclusion: a beautiful (more so than the scooby IMHO), exhilarating car but lacking that 'something' that the STi has ('burble'/character). The bottom line is that it would cost approximately £14500 to change and that's before taking the Evo's depreciation into consideration, especially when the IX is due out soon. So off I went to buy a couple of lottery tickets!
