Well went out today in the 182/182 cup/1.4 petrol and the 1.5 dci (100 bhp) and supprising even myself i've just put an order in for the DCi.

I loved the 182 cup, as a pure driving car I honestly dont think it could be beaten for under £15k. But the DCi was so nimble and nippy, and I had it for an hour and the lowest I got was 42.4 mpg and that was throwing it around.

The clinch was that until the end of jan, Renault are doing a £499 deposit and 2.3 % APR on the deal.

So I treated myself to some toys, digital climate control, electric sunroof, stack CD system etc and delivery in a not to shabby 3-4 weeks!

a very happy Steve

The DCi was 10,255.

I got a 6% discount of list price and whacked on £1500 worth of bits, metallic paint (black pearl), stack system, digi pack etc so total price inc charge for credit and deposit was just under £12k

I've been looking for a couple of weeks at new or nearly new and this beat everything hands down.

The Cup is also on a cracking deal upto the end of jan, i was sooooooooo tempted especially in racing blue with viper stripes and anthracite wheels.

I had a 172 Cup which I bought new and it was a riot to drive!

Went very well, handled superbly and was loads of fun, yet was cheap to run as I averaged 36mpg on my weekly commute (more on a gentle run) and it wasn't too bad on tyres/parts/servicing.

Not the best build quality in the world, but for the money they're a great car!

I also have mixed feelings about 172 ownership.

They are cheap, quick, nimble and fun.

The dealers are cr@p!! Mine was in for about 4 weeks total in the year I owned it (loads of different times, not all at once). Kept going in for the same knocking noise. Would come back not sounding quite so bad, then get worse. They said they hadn't done anything, but then when I had to complain to the manager about them not fixing 3 faults that had been reported on 4 seperate visits, and also because they lost my engine cover, he told me that they had been replacing gearbox and engine mounts (but pretending to do nothing?!!).

Also, depreciation is a killer (mine was 6 months old, I bought it for £11,000, and then couldn't sell it for £7,000 a year later!). It was a Mk2 by the way.

However, I have been considering getting another, because I have moved to London from the country, and the Scoob doesn't really get a proper drive.

If you do get one, put on the Pipercross Viper kit.... it sounds fantastic!!

Oh, and I averaged about 29mpg, and I have a lead right foot!!

In all fairness if the oppurtunity came up and all things being equall etc I think i would get shot of my STi and be driving round in a 182.I really enjoyed the whole 172 thing it was great and value for money wise i think the 182 is amazing. You can get them for about £12,000 new. Thats alot of performance and 3 year warranty for little money

its hard to justify that the scoob is worth at least twice that amount

Cool

Gutmann,

Go and take one for a test drive, the 182 cup was a stunning car and very much worth the money.

You will not get a better deal at the moment, the cup has the £499 deposit and 9.9 % apr offer until the end of jan. If it wasnt for the GF doing quite a few miles for work the cup would be sitting on my drive come feb 7th. It really is an excellent drive, My old 312bhp/287lbft classic didn't feel as good in a lot of ways and renault have really improved the standard of the interior, no creaks or rattles on the 04 plate cup that I went out in. The standard 182 was even nicer with suede/alacantra interior and the cup suspension was a cheap option circa £300 IIRC but it was somewhat heavier.

summing it up, it really did feel like a bang up to date 205 gti and i'd put money on it becoming a iconic hot hatch of the 00's.

And think, you'll then have a choice what to take to the 'ring.

All the best and if you want anymore info PM me.

Thanks guys,

The deal Renault have on the 182's at the moment is a really good deal, but my only holding back there, is the fact that I would be stung on the insurance, because i'm a young driver.

So to keep insurance down to a minimum but still able to enjoy something sporty, i'm having to settle for the 172.

I may have disuaded Sel from a purchase..
I enlightened her to my own debt situation I'm currently in and how I wish I'd never seen loan agreements and credit cards....

Mortgage yourself up to the eyeballs in bricks and mortar not motor cars babe.
Trust me!

She knows where I'm coming from on this as I'm pretty sure she was thinking about getting something over 60 months which is what I did with the last new car I ever bought.
5 years paying for something that wont be worth **** at the end of that term is pretty downhartening, not only that but getting such a big loan leaves you with very little pounds in pocket for the next five years to enjoy life with..

Once you have signed on the dotted it's too late to change your mind, just hope you are making the right decision!

Get one, you won't regret it. Make sure it's a newish one, mark 2, phase 2.

My cup is fun to drive both on the road and on track. I would recommend them unreservedly.

Thanks guys,

I really want one, but as Fuzz says he has made me think about it, and as much as i want one, i'm gonna do the right thing and save up. And he knows i'm pretty good at saving when i put my mind too it. So i shouldn't take too long.

Cheers
