if you can fit the MAF back in, then fit the OEM ecu and drive it with the wastegate flapping in the breeze
it would be more driveable than on the LINK, because unless its setup fuel and clamp-wise, it wont idle very well

Cool 2.5

i fitted my 2.5(supplied by mark a) in november using all the original bits from my 96 wrx(td05)/ i fitted a walbro fuel pump and an apexi fc(supplied by andy f). i modified my oil pump for more pressure and that was that. still original injectors(370's). it runs beautifully. its everything the 2L lacks. boost is about .8 bar but i have rev limit set to 5500 as the injectors are sweating at this point. in time i'll up the injectors but have no immediate plans to replace turbos etc. the engine incidentally runs much cooler than any of the 5 ej20's ive had and thats on a standard wrx i/c, but underbonnet vent shields are removed. it is a beautiful daily driver. it wont snap your neck off but is very respectable in its torquey delivery of power which begins around 1800 revs. i now have 4k on the engine but it still needs a close eye on oil consumption for another few k i spose. i have no regrets whatsoever. i did all the work myself so it worked out to be a very cost effective upgrade.
2.5 IS the way to go. Thanks to Mark A for a very smooth supply of the 2.5. Very nice guy to deal with. Thanks to Andy F for Apexi fc and advice. And Mark at lateral for pump and reg.

its a ver3 sti so it has 440's.
the 550cc injectors are end feed and i have made new rails and the factory rails just supert them so its about an hour to swap them over.
i think a hire car trailer might be the go. might be good for it to be maped from cold anyway.

I'm surprised you can run a 2.5 on 440's. My Sti v3 is maxed out on 440's with the stock turbo (314 bhp @1.25 Bar) and decat, no more.

If looking for a 400x400 motor, will the 550/Walbro/TD05 20g deliver?

Great engine Dyney, I'm green with envey

Dyney

What components did you add to the short block i.e. Water pump, oil pump, cam tensioner, which others am I missing and did you re-use any of these parts from the old engine?

The only parts re-used from the old engine were the Rocker/cam covers, the cam belt covers and the pulleys and pipes (inc.Water cross pipe). Obviously the inlet as well

Sump and oil pick up etc I had laying around

Water pump, oil pump, cam belt tensioner and oil cooler were all new.

is that from a leggy Tony?
PM me the info then, but still Im tempted by the lazy 400/400 route!

would an stiV/VI box cope as I heard from JB (iirc) that the 6er is less than ideal for the set up??

Tony's car has a CDB as standard

This thread has rekindled my interest in a 2.5, but not yet, maybe next winter's project.

Got my 2.5 under way, hopefully back end of Feb, cost does spiral out of control, like everyone warned me.

Speak to Mark A.
He sorted all the 2.5 GB's so far I doubt he'll be interested in organising another one,but will have all the info and contacts along with quite a bit of experience

Come on everybody, I can't believe no one has stepped forward for a GB. I can supply all the details, I just can't organise it because of work & the wife.

In last couple of weeks a number of people have contacted me, so it's obvious that there is the interest.

i'd be happy to do it, but i'm in ireland and that mightnt help. ive rebuilt my engine with a 2.5 from one of Marks gb's and i can highly recommend doing this to any failed EJ20.

I'd be willing to think about organising it, I need 5 names in total who are
a)definately interested
b)solvent enough to cough up a deposit and balance at delivery.

Question

Trying to justify the cost to the misses I had a thought.
Would my MY00 UK Turbo engine go into my wifes high mileage (auto) MY00 Forester S-Turbo?
If its a straight swap I will be in on the group buy. I have already got a front mount, TD05FE, Pump,Reg etc. sat in the garage. Good time to upgrade the heads as well me thinks.
BYe Bye Gearbox me thinks.
Just curious.
Looking forward to the answer.

Yes it should fit in a Forester!

Difference between MY00 Forester and MY00 Impreza (been looking as I have a MY01 Forester with auto gearbox and 100k on the clock!! )

Impreza - TD04 turbo
Forester - TD035 turbo (smaller than the TD04!! )

Impreza - 440cc injectors
Forester - 380cc injectors (haven't investigated whether the fuel rail is the same though)

They have the same EJ20 block, and if the worse should happen to our Forester, the 2.5 conversion would be high on my list.

Only other thing to consider are the ECU mappings will be different, but you could get a custom EcuTek map to compensate, especially with your proposed turbo and fuelling modifications.

Also I have read that the automatic gearbox will cope with more power than the UK manual box. Apparently there are guys in the US running 400bhp on the autobox in the States, and they are holding up. Have a look on www.subaruforester.com
