Insurance on a 2.5 conversion seems to be in the region of £900-£1000 with a clean licence/insurance history, oh, it also helps if your an old fart!Andy

SSO was my first foray onto a drag strip.
With the UK 5spd (so was taking it easy'ish)

I managed 2 runs of 12.71 @ 108 and a few others around 12.8
First ever run was a 12.99

I hit the limiter in first a couple of times and with a little more practice/brutality I should see even better times

After each run I checked all the gauges and peek readings.
Not once did the Oil temp go over 100 deg, the boost was running at 1.3 BAR and the EGT were so cool (600 deg) we had to laugh
Think I can pull a little fuel out

Reading through here I don't see any mention of anyone using big wing or larger capacity sumps! I have spoken with a few Scooby Specialist Garages and they all seem to recommend using big capacity sumps!
Are they not really needed?
Are they not really needed?
I suppose it depends on what your are using the car for
There are a few people using bigger capacity sumps.
As mine is a road car I didn't see the need. I didn't fit an oil cooler either and so far don't think I need to

I've got one for mine, an ARC sump...but it doesn't fit with the HKS manifold so has had to be chopped about. I've decided that fitting it can wait until the engine is run in, and has a few miles on it. Then it'll be coming out for the new sump to be fitted and at the same time my head stud torque checked.
I plan to use mine on the road only so it won't see hard use on a track!
Have many people been successfully running standard sumps on their 2.5 engines? Feedback would be appreciated!
I will be fitting an uprated oil pump - however retaining the standard sump would allow me to keep my GruppeS headers which I am told won't fit with a bigger sump!

It would be worth speaking to Mark at Lateral as he has a new 6 litre sump in development now which will fit with various sets of headers though not necessarily all.
He still needs a bit of time but it's in progress.

Eh, they're already sold to me arent' they????

A few Project updates coming BTTT so I guess I better.
Well over a year on and still going
Now 27k miles on the engine!! No not once has it melted or even let me down.
Fitted a 6 speed the day after SSO '05 and been very impressed with it. Whether it's better suited to the 2.5 than a 5 speed I still don't know. For a road car I would probably say YES.
Not really done anything to it lately apart from service it, well except for junking the Link and adding a Tech edge WB Lambda sensor and display.
I was speaking to Pat after SSO this year while he looked over the map. (Didn't run this year as the spec is almost the same as 2005)
He told me about the new Life racing ECU's
Amaising bit of kit!!!
If your thinking of a GEMS or a Motec call Pat and ask about getting a Life
What can I say it took a few weeks but I now have a Life ECU mapped to 1.2bar and putting out a believable 350/350
Still have a few extras to add (buttons and things
) but really happy with it.
It drives so much smoother than before and the idle and cold start are a world apart from the Link.
Need to inspect the headers as I think they have cracked at the weld to the collector on one of the branches again
Still keep thinking about changing the pistons but it just keeps going
So future mods:
Pistons (Possibly) would also like to port the heads if it coming apart.
Lateral FMIC
WI (I have a kit and now an ECU to run it)
Bigger Turbo???
Where do you stop? All depends on the £££'s I suppose
